+ 27 Blood Pressure Help

ad

Every once in a while We see a blood pressure question and the truth is, its probably the biggest health hazard when it comes to doing what we do. Most of the young guys running gear, I was one once upon a time, just look at roid rage as kinda cool often and dont really realize it is likely the result of high blood pressure. High blood pressure could be responsible for a large percentage of all disease related to cardiovascular or organ issues. We should talk about it more and in my opinion there should be no single person running gear without a BP monitor. I figured it out many years after running my first gear, I thought rage just meant I was a badass! Lol. So anyway my answer is cardio early and often, eat as clean as possible and take my omega3 fish oil along with a few other heart supps....hopefully everyone can drop in their control methods and thoughts. I happen to believe even blood pressure medication is a good thing if you need it when compared to just letting it get out of hand. It is depreciating you which is the opposite of what we are all trying to do to begin with. A motor that runs nice and smooth that granny drives will last longer than one in Goths ride given he just boils the tires at every intersection and thinks he's so fuckin cool with his dollar store jewelry and his felt hat and gold tip cane! TELL US WHATS WORKING FOR YOU....

Well blocking your Aldosterone is the key, take ace inhibitors and watch how much better you feel, maybe you need a little beta blockers as well, to take the edge off your gear too, it can at times be kinda ampy depending on what you take, and how much, tren and masterone are two that get me, and i really have to pay close attention to my bp and always play with my miligrams on my ace and beta blockers to keep it in control. Hopefully you dont get irregular rhythms like a-fib palps ect, if so there are great meds for that too, rythmol is a really good one. If you have a enlarged heart from juicing training heavy high blood pressure the Aldosterone blockers will actually shrink your heart after time remodeling it to more normal size allowing for your electrical system to calm down and take some irregular rythms away! its a touchy drug however, you get dizzy at first especially when kneeling down petting your dog ect and standing up fast, the rebound effect is bad until you get use to it and get your mgs sorted out. testosterone and creatine was resposible for setting my high blood pressure off, and not taking estrogen blockers too

Could I send you a friend request? I would like to ask more questions about BP meds. Thank you.

Doc just put me on Micardis for BP. Been taking Clonidine for a while now. Actually get latest labs in tomorrow morn. Been on Test E 1000-1500mg/week for 8 months now. With some deca and now equipoise. I was running tren ace which is hell on BP, especially when running with anadrol preping for a PL meet. Now that im off tren and anadrol, i feel much better, and BP is better, but still requires meds.

Diet can play a critical role. Obviously low sodium is important. Also make sure to have an adequate amount of potassium. Lets just say that potassium can act like an antagonist to sodium. A rule of thumb is : where sodium goes water goes; meaning that if sodium goes in so does water resulting in hypervolemia leading to high-blood pressure. So stay hydrated as this will help dilute and flush sodium. Pharmalogical methods would include things like "lasix". Frequent BP monitoring is essential to avoid an unsafe drop in blood pressure. Lasix will cause increased kidney perfusion reulting in more fluid being expelled from the body thus lowering blood pressure. Cardio exercise, especially workouts leading to persperation is very important. So in conclusion, low sodium diet, adequate (not too much) potassium, exercise, and (CAUTIOUISLY!!!!!!!!!!!) Lasix, frequent BP monitoring. Good Luck all and lets be safe and responsible with this shit.!!!!

On my last cycle I had very high blood pressure. While me and the wife was doing our thing right before I would climax it was like someone hit me in the back of the head with a ballbat and headaches that would last half a day. So I went to the doctor and he said they were hypertension headaches that was cause by very high BLOODPRESSURE (let that be a gentle warning to the newbies) but eventualy got it under control

I can't emphasize enough the importance of monitoring BP throughout a cycle. Even though I'm on two BP lowering medications (Lisinopril and Atenolol), I still monitor my blood pressure especially while on. Go to Wal-Mart and get one of those home testing machines. They vary in price but are worth every penny. And it's always good to double check the machine at the doctor to make sure it's accurate. Doctors welcome this.

This is what got me on track. I began 30 minutes of cardio eod with sprints on the tread mill followed by a brisk run repeated for thirty minutes. One baby aspirin in the morning one baby aspirin in the evening. I drink 1 1/2 to 2 gallons of water a day. The only way I can gauge water is with gallon jugs. My sodium intake is less than a 1000 milligrams a day but mostly under 500mgs. I believe the sprinting or tread mill wind sprints have helped tremendously as it got lower as opposed to regualar jogging on the treadmill. I also began donating blood. Current blood pressure 120/70....

Thanks for the advice gorilla..

ac89's picture

Can you donate blood while on gear?

sweatnosejackso's picture

I tell them I am on TRT. They have no issues with it at all in fact it will help people with the same blood type who are red blood cell deficient. I also provided them with a recent blood test result and my results the last test were wicked good. Total cholesterol 143 and triglycerides were 81. The lady did comment that my blood was almost purple and that it was real thick meaning high red blood cell content. Maybe placebo but I feel spectacular after giving blood.

I'm usually on a pretty good dose of tumeric extract compounded for joint inflammation, going on 4 years.. Also have low blood pressure, 106/66 to 120/75 but have seen 141/85 before. I'm pretty sure it was between the second set of numbers before 5 years ago. I was not aware of correlation even though the coincidence doesn't make it one. Something to watch, good to learn more every day.

manlytt's picture

There was an older fellow in my gym that used to tell me of the benefits of tumeric. He ran on the treadmill all the time. One day when I wasn't there the guy had a heart attach in the locker room and died. I was a little leary of tumeric after that. There might have been no correlation between the tumeric and his heart attach. It was enough to freak me out though. The guy seemed in great shape for his age. Suppose it coulda just been genetics, I just never wanted to gamble after that.

Thanks my man this eases my fear of it. I'll have to try some and see what I think, he also told me that he used it for seasoning. He also said the stuff was very inexpensive.

Bought a good BP machine from 'Boots', it only cost £30!!

I buy a bag of the ground flax seed with added omega's, and put about a table spoon or two into my protein shakes everyday. It's not that cheapest stuff, but it will last forever. If your interested in trying it you, need to buy the flax thats ground otherwise it will just completely digest out of your body without absorbing the nutrients. Its good stuff, doesn't change the flavor of anything and if you add a little bit of wheat germ it almost gives it a peanut buttery taste.

Cardio can make an incredible difference... but when bulking who wants to drag their sweaty fat ass onto a treadmill? lol.

Low dose asprin and fish oil tend to work well for me.

binary's picture

I take low dose asprin (full dose sometimes), and hawthorne extract. The extract is the most potent form. Costs more, but its worth it.

I didnt know coconut water helped bp..and I drink that everyday, so I guess I use that too.

Good thread. Thanks all.
My BP has tended to run borderline high for many years. When I was about 40 this started to concern me. Especially with gear.
I use:
Red Yeast Rice
Fish Oil
COQ10
Hawthornberry.
The red rice yeast keeps the cholesterol in check.
I like to always keep my bottom number under 90, read it somewhere in a gear forum and I like it.
Hawthornberry seems to allow me to control this.
I am also looking into yoga heard way too many good things about how this helps to keep ignoring it.

Good thread! May I suggest garlic extract for blood pressure? I believe garlic is a natural ACE inhibitor and you can find it at most vitamin/health food stores. Other good heart supplements (not sure if they've already been mentioned):

Red Yeast Rice - Plant based statin, good for lowering cholesterol
Phyto/Plant Sterols - Help block the absorption of cholesterol in the gut
Nattokinase - Blood thinner
Fish Oil
Co-enzyme Q10 - Antioxidant
Chia Seed - Good source of omega-3s

We've had customers at the vitamin store I work at discontinue their use of Lipitor and continue with red yeast rice instead, and their cholesterol hasn't changed much.

MSM is a form of sulphur, so that's probably why you're smelling it. The human body craves sulphur (that's why we feel great when we take mineral baths) so supplementing with MSM is a great idea for joints as well. I take it 3x a day, 1000mg each time.

FredWurlitzer's picture

Hmm weird, never heard of that with MSM before. Lol how strong is the odor? Enough for others to smell it? I've heard of that happening with people taking fish oil, no problems here though.

As far as garlic is concerned, I would make sure the pills/softgels are enteric coated, that might help a little. I've never really had a problem sweating out garlic after eating it, but I recently put some cloves in my food and smelt something like garlic on my hands/arms for the next 2-3 days. I say buy a small bottle and give it a shot.

FredWurlitzer's picture

Thanks! Just trying to get my foot in the door around here lol. What was your total cholesterol the last time you had it checked? Depending on your numbers, I'd say give it a shot until your next bloodwork and see what happens. "Trial and error" is what I tell people when it comes to supps.

FredWurlitzer's picture

I hear ya, cheers to that! When I get around to doing it,cardio helps me keep my blood pressure down as well.

I want to thank Tread for bringing up such an important issue. AAS use has been known to cause a rise in Red Blood Cell count, and can lead to secondary Polycythemia if left untreated. Like hrdbdyrrrrrrl pointed out, the further away from normal your blood pressure gets, the greater the risk. In addition to consistantly taking your own blood pressure and knowing whats "normal" for you, it's wise to keep an eye on one's Hematocrit levals. Yet another reason to keep up on bloodwork!

sweatnosejackso's picture

Is it ok to donate blood every once in a while to deplete red blood cell build up?

betheman's picture

Yes. I went b/c mine was getting too high (my doctor told me). The nurse said I was right on the line where they would turn me away if it was any higher. She said, "You should feel alot better after this"...and that I should come in about once ever 3-4 months and donate.
