Its never too late. Took me 16 years on the carousel. Something has to happen inside. The will has to fight back .....

Old_Swole's picture

I have struggled with opiate addiction since 99-00. It’s been an on off battle and there have been many times I thought it was going to take me out. The longest I’ve made it completely sober is 27 months. I’ve been on suboxone for the last 3 months after falling off the wagon again. For me sobriety has been a process of failure but pressing forward and trying to do the right thing.

sandman3698's picture

Exactly what press1 said. Set yourself small, realistic goals and focus on hitting those goals. 3 workouts a week, then 4, then 5. Atleast 5 hours of sleep, then 6, then 7. Healthier options for breakfast, the breakfast and lunch, and then all 3. Afterwards make sure your hitting your protein, then protein and carbs.
Small, obtainable goals that work towards a larger one.
And if one or two slip, well they're small enough to get back on track quickly.

You need to Fully commit to your training mate and view that as the No.1 thing in the World that's most important to you - If you relapse then all you are doing is destroying everything you have built up there. Is being temporarily high really more important than that? Being High or Drunk isn't real anyway - it's just a state of mind that's utter Bollocks and a total waste of time ....

Old_Swole's picture

Being extremely disciplined about my training no doubt makes staying on the path easier to do. My most successful times have been my most disciplined ones. For me personally it has just taken a lot of back and forth. Life’s crazy, ortho injuries are a bitch and there’s only one way…forward.

press1's picture

Buddy - you don't have to tell me about orthopaedic injuries LMAO Been going through the current one for 6 months now. Did it middle of April and got it finally repaired 3 months later. Realistically still got another 3 months before I can properly train and not worry about it popping mid set lol Yeah it would be extremely easy to feel sorry for myself and just say fuck it - Go out partying for a month in town or sit getting drunk in front of the TV and say there's nothing else I can do right now, so may as well throw caution to the wind. Isn't that the losers mindset though?? Fuck that - I'd rather be looking for any little other ways to make the current position better, try get better nutrition in today than yesterday - try research more new PT exercises, come up with better training programmes for next time when I am healed enough to train again - there are loads of things you can do when you are injured to improve the outlook of things if you really want to.

PLUS pal isn't using an Injury just one of the same old excuses we always use to use for justifying why it was okay to drink or use drugs??!! Oh I'm celebrating OR It's a great day OR I'm having a shit day OR I want to relax .... the list is endless mate Smile

4 years sober here. Opiates and alcohol was my thing. Had a couple stints in rehab and got pretty fat after coming out. Said fuck that and started going to the gym doing pretty much only cardio. After losing all the weight, I found that i really enjoyed the gym and started lifting. Did that natty for a few years and started dabbling in AAS and here we are. I credit my fitness adventure as a huge part of why i am still sober today.

press1's picture

Brilliant Mate - many of us including myself have found that the incredible feeling from training and lifting. and general feeling of satisfaction and happiness it gives is more than enough to fill that empty void that addiction once gave.

Claudezilla's picture

Amen to that Bro’s little over 6 years sober now and lifting has been a huge catalyst in staying sober and keep coming back

alright so I grew up during the pain pills/Xanax era(35m).. and I had my time as a full fledged alcoholic. im doing better now bc I was borderline being a shit father and I absolutely draw the line there(my kids are everything to me).. but I spent years during my sober spells being a maniac in the gym.. being all natty I truly pushed myself to the limits. all that being said. I spent tons of time building my body and now im looking to really dive deep into AAS. I can't help but feel like im switching seats on the titanic so to speak. any advice or support... even somebody that can relate? idk. kinda grasping at straws here

GEIST_Dunkel's picture

1380 days alcohol free. I contribute a good amount of these days to trt, because if i drink i usually end up in the hospital or a detox or a rehab or jail and i wouldnt be able to have my test in any of those places lmao.

BRILLIANT MATE!!

TrestNBleev's picture

Damn... I didn't expect to see this here. What a great idea. I was a hardcore alcoholic for 15 years and then I gave it up... for heroin. When the drink couldn't make the heart stop hurting, I reached for something stronger. I am lucky that I'm not a person who struggles every day with urges, but I can never turn my back on those things. I recently had a surgery and they put me on hydrocodone. I'm not going to lie, I was nervous. But I managed to only use them for five days. Also not going to lie, that sixth day I kept thinking that the pain was still bad enough, that I needed them for sleep, that it was about the healing and I needed to follow the doctor's directions. All until I realized that it was the drugs talking. It kind of pissed me off that I got that close to the fire again. I let my guard down. I was directed to take those for two weeks. I might have been smoked if I had followed directions because it only took five days for them to get their hooks in again. I can't go into too much detail but there is no way I could have done that post-surgery without SOMETHING. Imagine having your face cut open and scrambled, bones and all. Worse than a nose-job, not as bad as a car accident. It was bad. With the exception of those five days after a really intense and invasive surgery, I've been clean for five years this spring. The biggest thing for me is being able to enjoy normal things without being high- standing in the grass in the morning, hiking in the woods, good food, driving a car at night, a good run in the park, a good workout, normal stuff. I'm not big on groups in person. Too many people go for the wrong reasons (not that picking up women is bad, just not at AA bro) so I am glad to have this group here. This is as anonymous as it gets.

press1's picture

I have just added you to the Recovery Lounge Group buddy! You should get a PM invite from me Smile

Recovered alcoholic junkie here. And I say recovered because I’ve recovered from a hopeless state of mind and body. Never permanently cured. It’s all semantics anyway. Anywho, just checking in here. For me, a healthy balance of AA, God, family, and the gym works perfectly for me. Feel free to friend request me if you’re struggling or just need another person in your support system.

press1's picture

As long as you are Sober today and Sober tomorrow thats all that matters buddy, nobody knows where we will be in life in a weeks time. When I use to atttend AA meetings I would often question why someone who was an Alcoholic 10 years ago is still classed as one after 10 years of sobriety. How often do you her the same term used for a Drug addict? You never hear people get reffered to as Heroin addict after 10 years of being clean from the drug. Addictive personality is probably more fitting - but if you want to be good and sucessful at something thats the kind of trait that you need in life.

Sackbird's picture

For sure. I don’t introduce myself as an alcoholic unless it’s recovery related. I know what you’re saying though. I am not who I was years ago. My past does not define me. And I refuse to put myself into a box of limitations just because I suck at drinking.

Relapse is part of recovery, your story will help someone no doubt. Don't beat yourself up.

Fleetwood's picture

Speak to your home group about it. Get back on the horse, good vibes to you bro.

Greg's picture

If you want to get sober, get honest.
Talk to your sponsor and talk to the person who asked you to speak.
If I were you, I'd want to speak and include my relapse into the share.

press1's picture

Completely, he needs to talk about it and why it could of happened. There is no point in trying to ignore the situation, understanding and trying to spot the triggers that caused the relapse will help in avoiding similar situations in the future.
