workout partners
I miss having a workout partner someone to push Ya. I used to have a good workout partner we worked together but he since got a new job and works third shift and trains at like six in the morning. Even when I didn't want to be there or no energy once we got goin the competitive juices started to flow and I always ended up having a good workout. I'm just curious as how everyone deals with not having a great training partner. A good workout partner is essential to help past barriers. I love forced reps and getting the last few reps which I couldnt do on my own. Don't get me wrong I have great workouts but it feels like I could get a little more out of each workout than I am now. Is there anyone here on eriods that feels they have better workouts on there own than with a great workout partner. Is this possible? Just looking for some ideas starting a new cycle and I want to get every bit out of myself every workout.

I've trained solo for quite awhile now and I like it. Hubby does go to the gym with me but we usually do entirely different workouts, so I have someone if I need a spot but otherwise I like it on my own. I can do my own thing that I know works for me.
I like doin my own thing but I'm such a competitive person I hate to lose if u can do it four times I can do it five lol
Oh yeah I hate to lose! But what I hate worse is losing on stage lol, so I have to do workouts that I know work for my body. Unfortunately, that usually means doing workouts that are far from the 'norm' lol But I do love having a spot and when I'm doing my drop-set-from-hell I love having someone push me....I just drag them from other places in the gym
Good lord your back is huge, looks awesome! you would probably have to find a guy to work out with im sure your really strong!
Thank you very much! I'm busting my butt (and back lol) trying to turn pro in bodybuilding. I've come a ways but still have a ways to go. I live in a small town to most guys at my gym are pretty cool about my size/strength but when I visit other gyms it's kinda fun to see the looks ;)
Yes it is she will be pushing some guys in the ebc.
Thanks RT, that reminds me....I gotta buy a paper today and get my pics taken! I'm going to try to give them a run for their money but I know they will be pushing me too
It would be awesome to see a women place in the ebc.
From your keyboard to the voters ears lol......
I havnt had a real workout partner in 5 years, it sucks sometimes cause its easier to blow it off if i don't have a commitment to meet someone every day. on the other hand a great workout takes twice as long with a partner and sometimes its hard to concentrate on what I'm doing with a partner. there is good and bad in every situation
I agree I'd only want a workout partner two or three times a week for certain lifts. Plus I'm super competitive
I have had many training partners over the years, and trained by myself for a good amount of time as well. I prefer training alone for the sole reason of being uninterrupted from start to finish. I enjoy a good chest session with a partner, but considering I will never be on a stage and don't lift power style, I'm not too concerned about heavier weights, but rather my overall aesthetics.
A caveat to this is training with my wife. She is a trainer and like someone said below, she makes her clients vomit on the regular. When we lift together, we may not even do the same workouts from start to finish but her motivation gives me a nice boost. Nothing will pump a man up more to push harder than his (sexy as fuck) wife telling him in the gym with ears around to hear that I am not giving it my all lol. I train hard, but not CRAZY all the time, but something about my woman putting the challenge to me makes me explode and become a force to be reckoned with!
If only I could keep my old lady motivated in the gym. She can eat whatever she wants and never gains weight lol. Hard to diet round here I'm eating grilled chicken breast and she's eating pizza
I got it good on both fronts, my wife is also somewhat of a self taught nutritionalist. She never buys snacks/junk food and cooks every meal (takeout is a rarity). This is perfect except when I do want a cheat day I gotta sneak it around her lol
Lmfao that's funny do u get it to go and drive to the park to get rid of the evidence.must be nice I work she a stay at home mom and I cook all my food
Been having the same partner for the last 2 years but we dont always train together. We both have our own particular routine for certain muscle groups and we definitely share insight. Now on chest and leg day its a given Sunday's (chest) we already know 3:00 sharp! Friday (legs) 4:30 sharp! If ones of us shows up even a minute late its an extra set!.....and it helps that he's big as a house
get your ass up and go in the AM! a good partner is hard to find and irreplaceable
i gotta roll solo man i got no time for chatting and someone slowing me down. on the grind homey straight killin it.
When I first started lifting I lifted with two good friends and they were big strong and lifted hard in the gym. They showed me the ropes as pushed me so hard. And I think the best thing is they never once gave me shit for being 130lbs and not even being able to bench 95lbs.
But since then I've never found any other good partners. They just slow me down bullshit and take 5 minute breaks. No intensity. I get a much better workout by myself then someone like that. Finding a lifting partner is harder then findingg a respectable girlfriend. They need a match.com for lifting partners lol. But I'm just motivated I put my headphones in and go at It. I don't need someone else to hype me up. But I do like to watch videos of the pros before I lift if I'm feeling a little tiredx
I dont miss workout partner , I dont have a set schedule, im up early with the buss , and somedays im not home till 8-9 , or somedays I wake up at 4 and hit the basement , and im not so much in to the heavy shit now a dayz , I perer repping out 245-255 , and if im on a good run ilm have the , wife spot me or son in law , I cant pitched having to meet someone for a schedule d workout , not , and like I said if im going for a max and I know im getting 335 , and I add 10 lb to the bar , how much is it for someone to take that 10 lb off bar ,.. I like alone
I genuinely feel I get a better workout by myself. I've only had one decent training partner, and that's the trouble, getting someone who thinks on the same level as myself is not going to be easy. The main problem I have is in my mind I've got it all worked out, then someone new has his own ideas and that's were the problem lays. I just can't be bothered explaining how I want train and why and it cuts out having to take someone else's training needs into consideration.
I'd rather train with someone new to the gym who'd be happy to follow my lead.
Yeah, maybe if I had a decent partner I'd have a better workout, but if the only alternative I have is to train by myself rather than just hook up with some random just for the sake of training which would be detrimental in the long term.
AnonI had a very good lifting partner for a bit, but the sessions became more and more about socializing- I wouldn't get much done. I found that I wasn't focusing as much and came to enjoy training alone. I'm back at the point that I would love to train with someone, given our training styles are similar... I miss that extra push sometimes!
Are u a competitive person like me. I personally think that's what makes having a workout partner great
AnonI'm insanely competitive. Never run on a treadmill next to me. I WILL win!
The right partner can bring energy, focus and drive. I miss it.
Do u really win if u just run in place lmao ;) btw no that's not a challenge for a race or is it lol
AnonDamn right I can win, even if it's running in place- hell, if we are both tying our shoes at the same time, I'm racing you. I accept your passive-aggressive challenge. Game on, no mercy
Don't come at me with tieing the shoe challenge I wear Velcro booyah lol
AnonDo they light up too? Haha
No my old pair did but they got holes in them and had to get new ones :(
AnonDamn, they were hot. Are these corrective too? One sole taller than the other to make up for your short leg?
No but they buckled together with my leg braces kinda forest Gump style. On a side note I save a bunch of money on window cleaner
That may be true, but you have to put on your protective helmet first, so that'll slow you down.
Id rather have a helmet like roll tide then a walker like you lmfao
You'll need the helmet when I crack you over the head with my fancy walker, sonny!
Cut it your cardiovascular health cannot support all this excitement rolltide get the nitros
Check grabbed the defibrillator in case to
AnonEh, give him some prunes and geritol, he'll be aight.
Hmm does anyone have depends? Prune is flirting with disaster
I only use prune juice. Easier on the gums.
Do u drink prune juice like there 40's
LMFAO LOL I can't breath
AnonLMAO!!!!
Darn u vhman always making sense it will be a close race
I had a pretty good one, at least he was for awhile. We started lifting together like three years ago. He would push me and I would pouch him but once we went AAS things started to change. At first we pushed even harder but as time went on the diet, age and alcohol side of things had a negative effect on his ability to take advantage of a cycle and our workouts. As he slipped backwards I jumped forwards. So now I lift alone and you what, I okay with it. I have been getting a lot more done and I am not on anyone else's schedule. If I need a spot there are usually a couple bro's nearby eager to help.
Ya I like been on my own schedule I guess my big thing is I'm so competitive. So working out with someone that pushes me. Takes it to another level. I hate losing lol
I am hyper-competitive bro. I know exactly how you feel..
I'm almost to competitive to a fault lol. But I imagine most of us here are like that
ive had a couple decent ones. my wife is far the best tho , its just a turn on to see her benching with 70 and 80 pound dumbells ,or hack squatting with 2 1/2 to 3 plates a side etc. theres a difference tho training with someone who is a competitor vs someone who does it as a hobby. some of our clients train with us sometimes which is also fun but my favorite is when they go to do something and before they even attempt it they talk themselves out of it saying they wont be able to do it and I spend 5 minutes coaxing them into doing it, drives me nuts because they are setting themselves up for failures. the wife an I call them lifers they will constantly need someone to motivate them or push them. with her an I the strength and motivation comes from within. but ive had a couple who were damn good but others who didn't last a few weeks.
Having a loved one as dedicated as u if not more helps tremendously. If u would ever get that grill ready and hold your own u guys would be dangerous lol ;)
all moved in and that's happening as we speak lol
