Anyone Else here buy RTD's on Offer nowadays in the Supermarket now they are cheaper than powders per gram of protein?

ad

I use to be an avid buyer of Bags of Whey Hydrolysate and Clear Whey but since it is literally going up in price every fuckin time I go to order it - I now buy the RTD's in the Supermarket which are always on offer. There are so many brands to choose from here now with GLP's being such a big thing and gym culture really taking off.

I buy these 35g shakes that only cost £1.35 per carton and they taste great!! Sure its Whey Concentrate and not Hydro, but they are entirely Fat/Lactose free so they digest really well and cause no lactose issues at all. They taste 5 x better than the powders I use to buy and obviously there is no fucking around washing out a shaker, measuring out powder and mixing it all.

Curious to see if many others are beginning to do this?

Liquid egg whites are your best friend.

Tried that, but it was the one protein I've found that wrecked my stomach. Fine with them cooked, but drinking them raw had me doing a lot of sitting.

I use muscle egg. It’s double pasteurized… I’m glad it doesn’t do that to me as it is basically a superfood vs using powder.

Hello @press1 my friend (。・ω・。)ノ♡

To be honest you need to see more from where come your protein :

1) generally protein in RTD have very low aminogram because he's from "cheese"

2) filtered at high temperature, which further denatures the protein that, to begin with, has a poor aminogram.

3) 30g from dairy "milk" whey filter at low temperature are better vs 60g from "cheese" whey filter at middle or high temperature.

4) My opinion is to buy good-quality protein yourself and make your own protein shake, with that's you don't need to buy "bcaa's , eaa's, glutamine" etc ....

5) A very good dairy whey contains between 10 to 13g of l-leucine / 100g of powder.

6) If possible choose a dairy whey without additive and flavor (some concentrate whey have more potent than hydrolysat) and you will need to prepare your protein about 10 minutes in advance, as it naturally requires some time to blend properly (keep in mind that some emulsifiers contain GMOs, which is why it’s best to avoid them).

Have a blessed weekend (。・ω・。)ノ♡

I do get what you are saying buddy - I use to make a 52g Hydro shake then add in another 5g of Leucine and it was killer for recovery, who knows probably when I get into better numbers again in several months after this surgery crap I will get serious again. For the past 3 months though I have been buying it like this and they are so handy for taking to the gym to have in the car when I get out of there Good Smile

I do optimum nutrition whey. There are deals on amazon for certain flavors and I buy when those deals are available.

Prices are still a hell of a lot steeper than they were a year ago though. It is bullshit

Norblin's picture

If you have a costco membership get optimum nutrition from there, best price ive seen for protein recently

kekerino's picture

Yup I have seen the Costco prices for ON. iirc when Amazon has their deals on a specific flavor (usually double chocolate or vanilla ice cream) it is marginally cheaper than Costco.

hulkman0312's picture

I have been wanting to try the david brand ones. There bars are really good.

Brolly6898's picture

hulkman0312's picture

SeeOhShow's picture

You think that’s crazy? Go look at the non sale cost of the 10lb whey isolate bags from Myprotein now. They’re over $300 lol. I just do what press does now and buy whatever RTDs are BOGO at Publix. Or slam fat free Fairlife, carb master, Byrne, any other ultra filtered milk.

Brolly6898's picture

Fuk that id rather buy $300 worth of food

kekerino's picture

Fairlife is peak

press1's picture

It Bloody is when its Isolate too, basically £55 per kg

TDAU's picture

I buy them regularly. Alani Nu makes one called munchies that's like $7 for a 4 pack and they have 30 grams and 130 calories. I also really dig the Ghost yoo-hoo and will willingly spend way too much on them, cuz they're delicious!

But yeah, with powder being 50+ a tub, I just buy rtds, usually

press1's picture

Crazy how things have become eh - they use to be insanely expensive compared to big bags of whey hey!!

Lol..... I'm actually not turned off by alot of the the way proteins taste. I actually still enjoyed them early 2000's when they tasted like chalk. Not sure whats wrong with me. But I've always been sort of a supplement fiend.

I remember the first cylinder tub of protein I ever bought back in 1996 and man it tasted so Fuckin BAD!!! Like how the hell can anyone seriously drink this shit bad LMAO Strawberry flavour, cannot remember the brand. We barely had any choice over here in those days as training was still very much a USA thing along with supplements.

BigCoachKen's picture

I dont kknow what your options are over there, but all the RTDs ive tried taste like absolute shit. And dont get me started on the ingredient label, so much bullshit in them to keep the shelf life. I think yall have tighter regulations on that stuff.

Anyway, Ive just gone to more chicken breast. Used to have two shakes a day to make things easy, now ill just have one. The inflation sucks, but sometimes that shake is the most tasty part of my day

My Favourite are 'For Goodness Shakes' and also 'Arla' - I think those are both UK Brands. In fact I know Arla is as their factories are near me in Yorkshire Lol They are not Hardcore protein companies like ON or Grenade etc Taste really nice mate Good
