Suboxone

ad

I'm 29, did heroin for 4 years and ecstasy for 2 years. Total abuse of the body, really no time in between. I recovered I in 2011, been sober ever since. They put me on 8mg/2mg suboxone sublingual tabs. I started with 3 of those a day in the beginning and now i take 1 evrry 12 days. The chronic abuse is done with. But getting off dope of course my T levels were shot and then taking the suboxone demoted them as well. Now a days, I'm still having T issues and I can't shake them. I talked with an endo, they said get off suboxone. Which I pretty much am these days, I feel my body has gotten slow.

rawmustard's picture

I know this is an old post, but I am also a recovering addict and just wanted to check in with you, and ask if you were able to shake the suboxone? I hope all is well brother.

MassGainz's picture

Yea, I'm done with the subs man. Everything else is going well. No relapses, none of that shit. Been clean since 2011, plan on keeping it that way.

Hmm1's picture

Suboxsone is a help of a drug on its own. When I was locked up on the Island. One of the guys I was locked up with got addicted to it. They would deslove it on a spoon and snort it. My boy went from good lean to fucked up in a month. We all adults I tried to stop him but it got him.

woodsman's picture

Yes.
Try some nolva and less body fat.
Maybe some otc test boosters like d-aspartic,longjack,ect.
Give that a few months along with good nutrition and sleep.

MassGainz's picture

I'll give it a shot, thanks brother.

robb's picture

One every 12 days? If that isn't a typo it's not worth continuing with. Just stop completely, if you can go 12 day's till your next dose you can't be suffering withdrawals. Their prescribed to be taken daily in my part of the world.

MassGainz's picture

Thats how long one tab lasts me is twelve days. I take a little bit ed or eod. Next couple months I'll be off.

robb's picture

That makes more sense. However still the amount you must be taking is so small I doubt it's enough to do anything.

When I came off methadone I was taking 2ml a day at the end, it wasn't even enough to wet my tongue. The point I'm making, like it's said below it's all in your head at this point. As I've been their I'm always keen to see others get off, and hopefully in time this will be yourself. Their's never going to be a perfect time. Good luck.

I appreciate that brother, it's all in mentality. Drugs man.....

felony's picture

I can tell you from personal experience if you are making one tab last 12 days its all in your head. There should be no tolerance or withdrawl symptoms with a dose that low. There have been several articles I have recently read that suggest long term opiate use can be responsible for low T and other problems such as ed loss of libido.
My suggestion would be to get involved with a 12 step program. This isn't for everyone however their is something to be learned from the fellowship.
A dose of suboxone that small is pointless. This is the time when you must be honest with yourself. I would normally suggest to follow your doctors orders but again a dose that small seems useless and withdrawl from such a small dose should be nonexistent.
Your young and with proper time of long acting opiates you may find your symptoms correct themselves. I would focus on diet and exercise. After a few months of clean time then you can pull bloods and see where you stand. Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

MassGainz's picture

I'm getting the food intake dialed in, I do need too get bloods pulled. My work is my life in terms of exercise. I did bloods over a year ago and it had me worried in terms of T levels. But I need to get different opinions. I appreciate the response.

irongame427's picture

I was on suboxone for a while, prior opiate use then the subs trashed my test levels. I spend about 3 years after stopping just eating well and lifting trying to get them to recover and they never did. Eventually my doc put me on test. I have a rare headache condition and after a while all the meds stopped working so I was put back on various opiates and they eventually stopped working also so I'm hoping to come off test soon and with the knowledge I have know maybe I can get them back to close to normal levels. But there is something called opiate induced androgen deficiency. Hope I can get them back up to atleast the 400s. I'm gonna run an aggressive pct.

MassGainz's picture

Yea when they pulled my bloods last year my total was at 211 and free at 5.9.

woodsman's picture

I've got 19 months clean from 15 years of morphine,oxycontin,instant oxy,fentyl,lortab,norco,ect.
you're not alone.
Don't jump into pinning test,
try using some clomid or better yet some nolva to jump start your natural T production.
This is what I should have done: suppress estro and let the body work rather than jump on the pin..

woodsman's picture

OTOH I didn't know better and the results saved my life quality. So i'm not bitching too much. YOLO and get it done the easy way.. not so smart... but got it for now..
Myofascial disorder/fibromyalgia is what drove me,I break even or a tiny bit more on the pin and working hard.
One day at a time I guess.
Noone has to live this life but me. righto.

MassGainz's picture

I've been wondering if I did take anti esters would my natural T levels go back to where they were pre drugs. But I didn't take blood tests in highschool, so I don't know where the levels were. I just i felt so much better in those days.

MassGainz's picture

Yea, I was also thinking of anti esters as well.

Jayzgainz's picture

Everyone is diferent. Unfortunately wuth opiates in the late 90s and early 2000s drs were over prescribing opiate based pain killers so a lot of people quickly became addicted. Of course many did not. I believe some o us are predisposed to addictive behavior. I am, I still find myself acting that way. Although I do it with healthy alternatives these days. Your question can go very deep with an answer but I'll try not to ramble on. Once a person becomes addicted whether it's heroin coke alcohol they have a "honeymoon" phase where it's fun and you have no repercussions from your use. But usually not too long after that it will progress to where the drug of choice is needed daily and if the person does not get it they are unable to function properly. I can only speak to heroin and when a person does not have it you will become physically sick it's similar to having the flu and your mind is so preoccupied with using because you know that if you get a fix you will feel better. And every addict once they reach this point knows they need to quit no one grows up wanting to be a junkie. But this is hard to explain in this manner but even tho we know we have to stop and our way of life is wrong we just need to get the next fix and even if we od and are brought back by narcan the urge to feel "normal" is so strong we just have to use again. Isnt that the definition of insanity? To do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result? Sorry for rambling, my speech to text feature makes for long pists sometimes.

Have you seen the documentary on Netflix " Dr. Feelgood?" This doc wrote several patents over 80,000 opiates each in a 2 year span! Oxy, morphine, dilaudid. Each patient getting 200-400 pills each a month! Then he was stripped of his license and they all were fucked. This doc said addicts aren't made, they're born. I'm not so sure about that. I think it can go both ways.

irongame427's picture

Ya the honeymoon phase is fun, until you realized you Jude blew 12,000 dollars in 2 months. Opiates suck.

This right here my man... hit the nail on the fucking head. Back to 9months clean after a 2 year run post shoulder surgery after 3 years clean.

True that....

bigrick2017's picture

For me I was born with it my mom decided she was going to smoke crack while she was pregnant with me ! But if I could honestly answer that question why did I keep going back I'd be rich in can tell you the only thing that will make an addict quit is when he has beat his body up and lost everything he cares about and he gets to a place that's so low death would be a blessing and maybe he may realize he's had enough well that what it took for me at least! ! The disease is alive and real

Everybody is different, some can do coke and party and thatll be it. Others can do one line and then by the time you know it, you're sucking D in the alley for another hit. Personally I always did downers, opiates, but my tendencies are genetic. I have drug addicts and alcoholics in the family, all sober now but their past wasn't. And yes, dope sickness is a real thing, for sure.

bigrick2017's picture

Dude I am on suboxone maintenance first off Ive never heard of it having an effect on a man's test levels but if you take that small of an amount you should have no problem stopping all together i am tapering off right now BTW I HAVE OVER 7 MONTHS CLEAN

In a promo × 1
felony's picture

I only recently learned this. It also seems that both long term use and the longer acting opiates are much worse. Meaning suboxone and methadone for long periods as opposed to some codeine for acute pain. I will try to find the articles I just read on this if anyone is interested.

Calrizzian's picture

Yeah my man, Suboxone and especially methadone are especially suppressive to test levels. Obviously all opiates are, but those two with the incredibly long half life's do a major damage. I unfortunately never rebounded back after getting clean the first time- my test levels were at a whole whopping 83.

The endo that I talked too said that was the reason low T. But studies show men taking methadone have lower T issues then men on suboxone. Not too many studies done on the matter.

Also has your doctor checked your thyroid function? That can definitely make you sluggish and depressed if its underactive.

Ive been on effexor 75 mg for years so chronic anxiety and depression have always been around. They did check thyroid and they were fine.

Greg's picture

And your question is...?

they said get off suboxone. Which I pretty much am these days

You either are or you're not. You can't be pretty much pregnant... After 6 years, why can't you wean yourself completely off suboxone?

The half life is 24 to 60 hours. I would think you already would have little to no effective amount of the drug in your system by the time day 12 comes around.

MassGainz's picture

My question is will my natural t eventually go back up after getting off. But im also on anti depressants 75 mg time release.

MassGainz's picture

I take one slip every 12 days, breaking it up over those days.

Greg's picture

3 a day to one spread over 12 is a vast improvement. What's stopping you from tapering down to zero over the next few months?

MassGainz's picture

Im almost to that point greg, but after the tapering i feel i have gotten crazy sluggish. It should be the other way, but everybody is different. I got bloods taken about a year ago. 211 total T, 6.7 free test. If I can find my bloods in my emails I'll post. I need legit proof of the numbers, because words really don't show value. Honestly, getting off completely scares the shit out of me.

Greg's picture

Faith and focus on health will get you through.
I know what it's like to be where you are now.
The thought of success = no more crutches. No more crutches = risk of failure. Failure = hell.

In faith, you know there are better plans for your life. You were meant to travel this road for a reason. Now's the time to move forward to find out what that is.

Calrizzian's picture

Much, much, MUCH respect for this post Greg. I especially needed to read this as well. Hit 9 months yesterday again after my recent relapse. The meaning behind that message is especially powerful

True that Greg.

Jayzgainz's picture

Scared me too. Could that be playing into how you feel? I know your test is low but could you be depressed because you are so nervous about coming off? I know exactly how you feel believe it. I would never go back to the old lifestyle and was so scared of coming off and being sick. Thats where the gym really helped me. It gave me an outlet physically and mentally. I know were all different this just helped me.

I "know a guy" that was on suboxone when it first came out in tablet form about 13-14 years ago and there were only 2 doctors in his entire city and surrounding area that were able to prescribe it. He tapered off just fine over the course of 2.5-3 years and has been off of opiates since. Grant it, he was 18-21 through this time so it didn't really effect his T levels, but he still got off successfully.

Shoot me a PM if you'd like.

Jayzgainz's picture

Congrats on getting clean. Thats huge. You are right. Opiates destroy our natural test production. I have read reports saying as much as 75% I'm not certain about suboxone. Being a blocker and not an actual opiate I cant say.
How is your lifestyle these days? Do you work out, eat healthy, keep your mind active? All these things play into how you feel and your natural production. I found once I started getting active my life changed.
