+ 3 Stop using lifting straps!!!
ad
Ok folks .. for all of you that's using lifting straps to aid in your lifts your only hurting yourself . By using these your only making your grip strength weaker it's a fact . Your not doing yourself any favors by using them, put them away if your not strong enough to lift the weight with your bare hands then lower the weight !!

Well actually, there is research, very limited research, that suggests chronic/excessive use of lifting straps can possibly reduce grip strength
Presuming people dont use straps for every little thing, or for an entire session (I dont), then it is not a concern
The benefits of using straps for heavy sets, targeting specific muscle groups other than those used for gripping things(!!!), outweigh the negative. The potential negative effects can be mitigated in several ways:
Only use straps when your grip fails for limited heavy sets
Use bigger bars
Use big bars for pulling movements to increase grip strength
Use fat Gripz for pulling movements and curls to improve grip strength
Train for grip strength
Most people do some/all of these things anyway, so it really is not a concern
A lot of people state that straps do have their place in the gym. I'm one of them...since you claim that 'using them only makes your grip strength weaker it's a fact'...show us the research to back up your claim that it IS a fact...(btw - unsubstantiated opinion doesn't really amount to a fact - only for the person positing the opinion).
Why don't you enlighten us with some of your wisdom and provide some factual information to validate your point. Instead of flaming the OP like the flamer you are!
Ah. For you, any opposing opinion is flaming... Why don't you also ask the same question of everyone else who says that straps have a place in the gym? Get a life sycophant.
You obviously didn't read my post earlier in this thread. Before you ask some one to point out there facts after you stated your opinion makes you appear injudiciously foolish. You spout out a lot of negitivity across the forum and offer very little positivity. Try adding something constructive to your posts. Maybe I'm wrong about you but I've yet to see any serious contributions towards anything relative to our common goal of training and aas use here.
Opinion and facts are different. Look them up. I have an OPINION about straps but the OP posted that it's a FACT they cause weak forearms, so there is nothing injudiciously foolish in my asking for those facts. If they exist - then they may influence my opinion about using straps. He could have said that over his years of training he found that they caused weak forearms..blah blah. I think that you are wrong about me - but you already have a per-conceived opinion and don't want to change that. Have a great day/night.
Admittedly Ozninjaguy had a rough start when he joined, but am I missing something? Or, perhaps you are?

How about if you agree to disagree and leave it at that.
Apparently I am. Consider me respectfully bowing out. Good day
I guess you haven't lifted much with out straps . Have a nice day thanks for stopping
You know nothing about my training...and equally the same about training. Have a great day ahead.
Lmao ok kick rocks little guy
Say what you want - where's the facts? You are the one stating 'It's a fact!" - but when asked for the so-called facts, it becomes personal. when I just wanted you to back up your claim. But hey - you know it all, so we just have to believe that it's a fact because you said it is.
I had no idea that LIFTING STRAPS would cause this level of discord. I'm befuddled by the whole thing.
I thought Tony said it best (don't tell him I said that): Use them when your grip begins to fail. Dont up to then.
If there's any confusion, this is directed to Oz, Gym, and JL.
Thanks for the input. I never said when I use them.TBH, I use them as rarely as possible and only when my forearms are aching.I also believe over-reliance on straps can cause elbow and shoulder joint injury - just some personal experience there - no science to back it up..and I guess that my initial post to the OP came across poorly.
Agreed, it could have been less "aggressive" in its wording.
That does not invalidate your experiance, nor the OP's "opinion"
Respectful discourse is how we learn. Without the respect, a discussion becomes an argument, and the topic is lost as it has happened here.
This post would have been better to open with.
@Vh and @GYM.
Fair enough. You and VH are right on all points. @GYM - apologies mate - I do have an abrasive style sometimes - it comes with being a gnarly old guy. Peace.
This post was crystal clear and helpful.
Straps have their place. Depending on them is a no no but when your grip starts failing do you stop your workout? Um no. That's where straps come into play. Heavy lifts and when your grip starts to fail.
Or you could just start playing with the strongmen. Nearly everything we do is grip intensive. Straps save biceps. Smart when everything else we do is a risk to them lol. Take it when you can get it.
But my wife likes it when I use the straps
Yes and no, bigger back or stronger hands you pick if this is classified specifically for deadlifts
Boom!
Hey it's to early for this .. I'm still eating my honeycomb cereal and watching cartoons
No
YES
Can't we all just get along?
No homo
YES lol
I use straps for everything. Dumbbell curls, bench, leg press, hamstring curls. Even on the treadmill. I even have different color schemes to match my outfit. I even have a pair that are Hyper color and change colors when I get hot. Anyone who grew up in the in the 90's knows those Hyper Colors are the fucking bomb!
Sometimes I use straps sometimes I don't. For deadlifts mainly not much else I need them for really.
That's because you like the D. Comes with the territory
Shit I don't have a comeback for this one that's ok I'll get you next time hahaha!
If you want your comeback you can just wipe it off your boyfriends face.
Hahahaha!!!
PMSL!
My back is sore don't make me laugh that hard, lol
lol. I can't help but give the D to the D. Lol no homo.
I wouldn't laugh too hard it's your face I'm wiping it off of hahaha. Please don't smite me I gotta stay in character all for fun ;)
I will give you a pass this once since it is in fun, but you ain't been here long enough to go that far with a mod.
Lol
Lol. Cock blocked the D right fast. Lmao.
For real I thought my kids were cock blockers lol!
Understood.
I respect everyone here and wish all the best
Having fun with Engineer he's a trip
Well Deathstroke, this is a good chance for you to start over. I knew you were a little too familiar.
You seem like a good dude tho so just keep enjoying the forums
Thank you.
I mean the community no harm
You actually seem like you are having much more fun anyway.
Lol, a little D might bring a little life back into the forums. I'll tape him up and put him in the back of the eroids van with the dead hookers for a while. Keep him humble.
Dead hookers sound like fun. I tell you what you bring the chips and I'll bring the nuns. Nuns have no fun, but I will show them what the hookers already knew that I know how to have fun. You can tell just by the look on their faces.
Not one "no homo" in the entire conversation. SMH
None homo
