Shout out to the Mrs.She picked up 225 of of the floor with no straps and shrugged it for 10 reps. Reps were crap but hey she did it. She also benched 165 for one rep coming back off of a shoulder injury. She was talking smack so i told her baby i can double your 1 rep max and rep it for 8 reps. I believe her response was for me to go to hell. LOL

Pale's picture

Excellent!

I haven't hit the gym in over a week and a half.

Pale's picture

You disgust me! lol. I tried to deadlift 510 twice today and failed both attempts. It is really messing with me now. After failing I did lock out a 495 just to give me back a little of my confidence.

Pale's picture

Where did I claim it was?

Pale's picture

Yea, I was trying to figure out what you meant lol

jubjub's picture

Finally hit a long term pr on the squat 5by5 at 180kg I'd love to get 200kg at the 5 sets of 5. End of year goal maybe?

Pale's picture

Awesome. Keep pushing!

Pale's picture

I decided to go for a new PR on my squat today. It was only 425 but my previous best was 405 and honestly I hadn't tried to go further. As soon as I got it up and on the rack tho my left quad cramped up like a sumbitch! Felt like it was going to rip out of my leg, lol.

So in the last month I have PR'd deadlift (505) Standing overhead press (235) and now squat (425). I plan on busting my long running PR of 385 on the bench soon as well.

Catalyst's picture

Nice work mate.

jubjub's picture

Hit an easy 120kg pushpress today only my 3rd time doing push press so pretty happy with that.

Pale's picture

Awesome! That is 264 pounds for us US guys, very impressive.

jubjub's picture

Cheers Darth. Smile

Pale's picture

It has been one week and I was feeling good so I stepped back up for some deadlifts. Started at 315, then 405 for five reps, then 455 for a single then Boom! A new PR of 505. Nothing crazy I know but I was pretty happy and it felt easier than when I hit 500 for the first time. Onward and upward boys..

Catalyst's picture

Knew you'd get it.

bolt781's picture

Hell yea! Back from a layoff and I read this! BLAM! How many people do you personally know that can lift over 5!?? Gettin me pumped brother Darth!

Pale's picture

I don't personally know anyone that has or that I have witnessed. Welcome back bro, I have been keeping your thread alive, lol

Harley1969's picture

I shrugged 405 for 10 reps today. 6 or 7 were pretty strict. Pulled it from the floor not from the rack. Also maxed out on that high striker bell ringing game. The one were you have to hit the pedestal I guess you call it with a sledgehammer. Dude that went before was jacked and 295lbs and wasn't able to do it. Wife and son were there so I felt pretty proud of my accomplishment.

bolt781's picture

Fkn-A brother! Were those shrugs to the ear lobes?? POWER!

Harley1969's picture

Not quite lol. Pretty strict though. There were a bunch of hardcore lifters in my gym for a change and it got me in the mood to go heavy.

Pale's picture

Awesome brother! I am going to do the sledgehammer game next time it is around. I think my splitting wood experience may help.

Harley1969's picture

I split at least a cord a year so I'm sure wood splitting experience will definitely help.Be weary though because I think some of these games are rigged. It took me 4 hits to max out on this game as to were I usually do it every hit.The 295lb guy who failed to max told me that was the 1st time he ever lost on this game. I was kinda leary about going after him because he looked like frigging Lou Ferrigno during bulking season!

The Impastable's picture

The trick is hitting the center of the plate at almost exactly 90 degrees. If you're off center, there plates are purposely installed wobbly so that the bulk of the energy transfers into the platform and not the sensor.

Harley1969's picture

Good advice brother. I think they put a little bit of baby oil on the sledgehammer handle. Lol

Pale's picture

After a few weeks of nursing a sore back and basically avoiding anything crazy heavy or back intense last week I jumped back on the iron and ran up to 315 reps on the squat and 405 on the dead lift. So today I was feeling pretty good, busted out a few reps at 315 on the squat and then immediately shifted gears to the dead lift.

Anyway, I started at 405 and did a few reps, all good no pain, so I just started adding 20 pounds each lift, at 495 I decided to skip the next step and went for 525 (a new PR)... Fail! I was about halfway there and just hit a road black and instead of digging deeper honestly I just let it go. It was a split second decision that I now kind of regret but at the same time I should have attempted that lift when I was fresh and in my head i knew it. No big deal, I will likely wait a couple weeks and do it again.

Catalyst's picture

Sounds like you mentally talked yourself out of it, we've all done that. Yours for the taking next time.

Pale's picture

I think you are right. When it came time to really dig deep the fear of injury froze me.

Catalyst's picture

Hard to be confident enough to get past that. I know I still do it with my shoulder regularly.

Pale's picture

Uh oh, (rewind) last week on back day I worked my way up to 315 on the supinated bent over row, my form was not good and I knew I angered my back , but it wasn't bad enough to stop me from PR'ing my dead lift a few days later on Sunday. (fast forward to today) I got done with our work for the week, ate and headed to the gym.

I planned on doing some back and then transition to bi's and tri's. I started with just the bar doing my supinated rows to fail, each set I would add the next heavier plate. 0,10, 25, 35, 45. Anyway, I was not using a belt but had planned on putting it on at 225. So I am cruising through the sets, feeling real good. At 205 I went to pull it on the first rep and felt like I got stabbed in the back. I tried shaking it off and even hung from the pull up bars trying to decompress but I knew the workout was over and I needed to get home and get on the ice. So that is where I am now. I have had similar events before where I stayed on the ice for a few hours and it worked. Fingers crossed...

vhman's picture

Sorry to hear that chief. I did something similar last month. I was out for about a week and then I was fine. I have spinal stenosis, which is a constant issue, but this was something different. I think that because of my stenosis, I baby my lower back a little and this led to my soft tissue back problem. Trying to find a balance, but it's tough.
Best of luck to you and keep us updated.

Pale's picture

I have kept the ice on for the better part of the last 5 hours. I soaked in the tub for a bit (hot) and I will probably do that again in awhile. Cold, then hot has worked several times in the past. I won't really know if it worked tho until morning. I plan on hitting shoulders in the morning but I do not believe I will be doing any overhead or even heavy work.

vhman's picture

You are the only one who knows for sure, but rest is usually your best option. If you can get away with doing some stuff, then the more power to you. I wasn't able to. I took five days off and then eased back into it. It was a quick recover considering the pain I was in. Listen to your body and not your pride and you'll be fine. Again, best of luck to you with this.

Pale's picture

The pain was much reduced this morning when I got up. I did go in and do shoulders and kept it on the light side. That heavy icing seems to work for me. That said I will ice some more today and go light for the next several

Catalyst's picture

Slightly off topic, but I mentioned entering a strongman competition. Said competition has now been completed and by some miscalculation I somehow won.

Enjoyed it, more than I thought I would. Went exactly how I expected. I was strong on static strength events, middle of the road on mobility events and didn't even bother trying the keg toss, (my shoulder does NOT like that motion in a BIG way).

A fair few aches and pains after moving some serious tonnage around. I think I'll be back for more though....

Maybe. I was told many years ago I should have pursued it rather than bodybuilding but I always doubted I could quite cut it.

Darkhorse777's picture

Well you just proved yourself wrong(in a good way) ...you won your first show...think of what you can do given more time with some more sport specific training ....youll tear some shit up ... Smile

I have been steadily running heavier on my deads and squats. My working weight has been 315-405 and doing legs 2x per week. Sunday is primarily for traps but I usually mix in deadlifts or squats and finish with multiple sets of pull ups to decompress my back a little. Anyway, today I hit the gym feeling good and strong so after doing shrugs and one set of deadlifts at 315 I racked up 500 on the bar and hit a personal best deadlift. I admit for a second I thought my spine was going to explode out of my back but I just let out a warriors cry and banged it out.

I am getting old so I don't make a practice these days of doing crazy heavy lifts but I still believe it is good to push yourself when you need to and break through a barrier or two. While this wasn't a great feat by Eroids standards for me it was yet another hurdle I leaped over.
