+ 1 Need Help With Bicep And Forearm Tendinopathy Recovery From Rock Climbing
Hey all! Currently on my second cycle which includes:
250mg/week Test E
130mg/week EQ
as well as Reta and Klow peptides (just ordered HCG and will be incorporating that).
Supplement wise, I take:
1500mg Turmeric/daily
500mg Magnesium/daily
2g L-Arginine/daily
1g L-Citrulline/daily
50mg Eplerenone/daily
10mg Accutane/week
The past few months I've been rock climbing consistently since I discovered it. I put in a lot of effort, causing the stress load on my arms to be quite hefty. Since I started climbing, I've been having that arm pain, even before I started the cycle. The cycle definitely made the pain more consistent, as well as the load on my arms going up alongside the higher grades. I asked my doctor about it and she ordered bilateral bicep ultrasounds, as well as a pending MRI. I want to stay on cycle of course, but I hear that it causes the tendons to weaken over time. Is there anyway to combat this, or anything anyone would recommend for recovery? The past week I haven't gone climbing, focusing more on mobility and isometrics for my arms, as well as incorporated turmeric, l-arginine, and l-citrulline which was recommended from another post I read. The pain isn't daily anymore, but I tried a few easy climbs and felt the pain start to come back. Any advice would be appreciated, and any advice on supplements that might promote growth or recovery for a rock climber that may strengthen tendons would be great as well!

You may find this post helpful, lots of ideas from members on effective supplement protocals. I am a big believer in the Vitamin and mineral side also.

Great article! Definitely going to buy some collagen peptide supplements at the store tomorrow!
Ohh yeah pal - they work really well. I've been hammering 30 grams per day the past 3 months since my supraspinatus surgery, alongside 1 gram Vit C, 75mcg Vit D, 50mg Zinc, Magnesium, 7mg Manganese Tabs
I've found what tastes the most paletable is to buy the Unflavoured Collagen Peptides and mix it with Apple Cordial and a bit of Dextrose powder.Get the NOW Dextrose.
You need to be taking in the RAW supplements that actually build up tendons like the amino acids it contains being Glycine, Proline and Hydroxyproline that are in higher amounts in Collagen than in normal Whey Powders. Make sure you drink it 30 mins before any tendon rehab you do mate so it is active in your bloodstream when you have increased blood flow running through the tendons - this is critical.
Do you take each pill for vitamins separately? I already take like 8 pills daily --
I take one multi vitamin that has them all in it - then those ones I have listed seperately I take additional ones that are that dosage to get those big amounts that are important. Things like Vit C are fully eliminated within 24 hours from the body - So you have to take a big amount every day of the week to get the proper effect. Or you can take 2 x 500mg tabs twice per day.
I had bicep surgery and that was the worse. Took me over a year to fully recover with rehab and all. I suggest getting some gastron massages where they use the metal scrapper to break up scar tissue etc. hurts like hell but feels good.
"hurts like hell but feels good" LOL! Will look into it
Cheers!
The problem with tendons is they heal very slowly and only through exercise, resting won't fix it. Rice bucket exercises are great for the hands, wrists and forearms. You can just google it or check out the youtube video below. E3 Rehab has a lot of great free content about tendinopathy and is what I used when my tricep tendon was bothering me. I also just got into climbing and love it. Good luck on recovery.

Resting still shouldn't be overlooked though as well as light training - during my RTC post op recovery the only exercise I could do initially were 45 Deg leg presses, of course I was soon overdoing them in frequency terms and was begining to feel patellor tendon stiffness pretty soon and it began to get bad especially when standing up off the sofa and off the bed etc. I found the only thing that got rid of it was a few weeks rest from the machine, doing wall isometric squat holds did nothing for it. I think in this guys case just resting for a few weeks will be better than trying to keep training through it.
I guess it depends also on whether he has actually caused any fraying of the tendons or not, I think it will just be initial overuse and his tendons are trying to heal and strengthen but are taking a while to do so.
You're right, I didn't mean to suggest rest is not important. I guess I meant to say rest alone won't correct the issue from what I've read.
Great advice! I just finished reading that E3 article and it had great info, which was definitely reaffirming as I've been doing most of those exercises! I've been doing upward sort of lifts for finger strength, like using a 45lb plate and lifting it with a finger grip, but definitely notice that hanging is my weak point / the cause of my issues. I'm now trying to incorporate a bit of hang boarding, with around a 5-7 RME, to help recover. I now am trying to strengthen my ankles, hips, and wrists, as climbing definitely made me realize how weak they were in comparison to my muscle strength.
