Yeah I seen this a while back, me and my training buddy, now my training buddy runs 150-200 mgs of orals every day... smh

+1 wow great interview I have a new respect for Dorian. Thanks for sharing

Theophany's picture

You are most welcome brother! I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you!

I just don't get how he build that body with those workouts. I mean he would do like 2 working sets for arms. This would be a great type of routine to do during my cut when I'm low on calories. I just don't have to energy to pump out 20 sets right now. I've been dragging ass in the gym lately. It's tough when you go from 5000 cals slowly down to where I'm at now at 2500. Might have to start studying up on hit training.

Catalyst's picture

But those 2 working sets were like nothing you've ever seen. I've been in the gym and seen him train many times, you just can't imagine anything like his intensity.

Wouldn't work for most, but Dorian isn't like most.

Theophany's picture

Most definitely brother! Their are only a few Bodybuilders, to my knowledge anyways, who used this method of training successfully - Casey Viator and Mike Mentzer! Back in the day it was called Heavy Duty!
The most fascinating and intriguing aspect of Dorians physique, in my eyes, was his ultra-superior conditioning and looking grainy and flexed while in a relaxed stance!
Always stone granite hard while onstage! Beautiful, just beautiful!

irongame427's picture

Mentzers training looks incredibly painful. I was actually just watching a video of him yesterday instructing someone on his method of training and damn it looks brutal, but also very effective.

and you couldn't be more right about dorians conditioning, absolutely unbelievable. No Mr O has ever achieved that grainy dry dense look. Phil health looks like a balloon compared to Dorian. Jay, Ronnie, none of them came close. Dorians conditioning was just on another level. By far my favorite bodybuilder. I wish there was more training videos of him training online. Theres only a few and ive watched them all many times. Very look key guy, i guess thats why they called him the shadow. He always looked so confident on stage to, like he owned the place. I guess he kinda did tho. His form in 1993 was ridiculous. Only thing, i don't think he should have won in 98. Nasser got robbed of the title. Nasser had dorian beat in everything except back. His conditioning and separation was even better then Dorians that year. But Dorian still looked damn good for what a torn bicep, tricep and quad? His dedication was second to none.

PIN_CUSHION's picture

Those black and white photos that came out of him in 92 during the off season changed the game. Competitors looked at those and thought shit just got real, I gotta look like that!

irongame427's picture

hell ya bro, when i think of dry grainy and hard those pictures pop into my head.

irongame427's picture

Ya I've watched a lot of videos of him when he was in his prime and he intensity is second to none. But some exercises he only does 1 set! That's so fucking cool you got to see him train. Was this in the 90s? His training style is appealing to me especially during my cut. I burn out so much faster with my calories so low but I would need to find a good spotter to help me with the forced reps at the end of the sets.

PIN_CUSHION's picture

You're lucky. I would have love to seen him train in person. I've tried his method, my problem was I was never able to get the right amount of weight on those two working sets. I ended up volume training anyhow. I think what contributed to that was not having a work out partner. I was afraid that if I got to that point of failure I wouldn't be able to move the weight, so I was to afraid of being trapped under the bar.

Catalyst's picture

I see him regularly, lives very close to me and I've trained at Temple Gym. Very pleasant guy to be honest, very humble.

irongame427's picture

Do you live close enogh to train regularly at temple gym? I sure as hell would if it wasn't a 15 hour flight lol.

Catalyst's picture

Half an hour away. In a difficult location for parking mind you so far from ideal.

I actually watched this randomly browsing YouTube tonight. Great video! Show's how such a great bodybuilder that expanded his body, mind, and limitations has also done that on the real world as well. Really refreshing to such an icon in our sport be just as adventurous after competing to help spread positivity and a deeper pursuit of knowledge in what his sense of reality is. Thanks for sharing Theo...should have figured one of our Eroid's brothers posted this...some great people on these forums such as yourself! Smile

I LOVE Dorian....but for fuck sake, when are some of these retired BBs going to come clean about dosages and compounds????? It's not like we don't know they were on gear, and god knows they don't get supplement endorsements anymore, so why not offer some advice on compound dosages and PCT?
I guess we're stuck with Dave Palumbo until steroid use is no longer seen as worse than child molestation.
Fucking news media....:(

2500hd's picture

I thought he said in the interview that he did publish some of his cycles in the magazine MD

irongame427's picture

He did and this is it.
pre olympia- weekly

Test Prop -300mg
tren -152 mg
primobolan -500mg
Daily- Anavar -50mg
GH 8 IU's

offseason cycle- weekly-

Test -750mg
Deca- 500mg
Daily Anavar- 50mg

Is it possible that he build that body on those cycles? idk i doubt it.

2500hd's picture

I believe it HGH has a synergistic affect on steroids

irongame427's picture

Lol I hear ya bro. I mean it would be pretty fucking crazy if he really did build that physique on 750mgs of test and 500mgs of deca in the off season and 262mg of tren a and some primo for contest prep.

ChemDawg's picture

That was some good shit, I never heard any of his interviews before, its good to see him expanding his mind after retirement and discovering a purpose.

Theophany's picture

Thanks bro and glad you enjoyed it. He is most intelligent and inspirational.

ChemDawg's picture

Now I just need to stop drinking tap water, but I think drinking it out of plastic bottles is just as bad, maybe even worse.

Theophany's picture

Lol! FR sent.

After seeing this interview I have a new found great respect for the man! If only all champions would speak so honestly and be so humble! It caused me to check out more of his you tube videos. Blood and guts has to be the most inspiring training vids of all time! His physic has never been matched for size and hardness! he would walk on stage and make everyone look soft! He could still be destroying the competition today if not for the injuries!

Theophany's picture

Thanks bro, I purchased Blood and Guts when it first came out in 1996 on video cassette and absolutely loved it. Yates physique was enormous but still aesthetically pleasing and always stone granite hard, totally agree with you. Glad you enjoyed it and find the man inspirational.

Catalyst's picture
