The hole-and-corner Phantom!
As most of you know, I'm more of an admirer of aesthetic golden-era builds such as Frank Zane, Bob Paris and Rory Leidelmeyer, but their are some great mass monsters also that deserve much respect!
Below is a link where Jay Cutler and Flex Wheeler discuss Dorian Yates and Phil Heath! Both state that Yates was the more domineering and better respected bodybuilder!
Yates was indeed amazing! I read where he drank maybe 7-8 glasses of wine in his bodybuilding career which spanned over a decade! He declined sponsorship, seminars and exhibitions to focus on what he loved-Bodybuilding! He trained in an ill-equipped dungeon, but with a great passion, strong work ethic and love of the sport, he excelled!

Great watch, Dorian is without a doubt my favourite all time bodybuilder because of his blood, sweat and tears approach to the lifestyle.
He took the sport to the next level and although I don't really like where it is now (like you Theo I prefer the aesthetical look) you've got to respect the fact he was so much better than anyone of his era.
From most accounts a humble man also which makes me respect him even more.
Undoubtedly brother GrowMore! With the mass monsters becoming more and more mainstream, Dorian is one of my favorites! You brought up a very valid point which was touched upon in the video! His competitors in the 90s were all top notch elite athletes! He championed over Flex Wheeler, Nasser El Sonbaty, Kevin Levrone, Chris Cormier, Shawn Ray ect.

Frank Zane " The Chemist" brought a new level of conditioning to the sport! The physique of Bob Paris will always be mirrored to that of the legendary Steve Reeves!

Respect to flex for building the body he has but he always comes off as a bit too arrogant for my liking. Now I am the most narcissistic person I know, it comes with the territory, I get that, but something about him I just never liked. Dorian is thr man though. Love how he trained
Flex, in his heyday, had an epic physique! His build is hard to verbalize, just a 3D effect of perfect proportions, symmettry, condensed musculature and fine contours! But, yes, Dorian took it to another level and was able to champion over many legendary Bodybuilders of the 90s as are mentioned in the video!

Thanks for posting this because the more people that hear that interview the better.
Hearing a great like Cutler discuss the aura of Yates and how he "training in a shitty gym in England" and who "Never spoke" and " Never showed his body" was pure gold. His admiration of the man, his training, and his mystic was truly amazing to hear. My absolute favorite part of the video was right in the very beginning of the video , right after the question was posed. Who was a more dominating champ Phil or Dorian. Just look at Flex's face! It says it all. Not even in the same league. And for Flex to mention himself , that classic quote from Yates saying that "If Flex trained as hard as me he would never lose" so matter of fact. So true. Flex and everyone who follows bodybuilding agrees with that statement.

I saw the interview where Cutler and Flex were just talking about Yates's dominance. Then after I as able to watch the entire MD interview. Well worth the post for those who haven't checked it out yet. So after I saw that video I wanted to look up those classic world shaking black and white stills of Yates. I still remember the first time I saw those and was completely blown away. Absolute phenom of the sport.
What happened was I stumbled onto a video that not only had some of the stills, but also a black and white film of him at that exact photoshoot. If you have 5 minutes and want to see the greatest in his prime then check out this footage. Incredible. Hope you like.

Thanks for the link to the video my man. If I'm not mistaken. That video you posted of the offseason Yates guest posing has been severely edited. I say this because, it wasn't just a completely huge and yoked Yates guest posing by himself. This was a duo guest posing with a recently unretired and completely stacked Lou Ferrigno as well. Ferrigno and Yates were both offseason and bringing a level of size to the game that was completely unheard of at the time. Thanks again brother.

Love some of the content youtube put out, especially the likes of nick's strength and power channel. He's only a young man but has great knowledge. Very humble and down to earth. He also has a passion for the golden era so lots of videos their and many on forgotten greats, quality instead of the ego hyped likes of luimarco.

I have to agree completely. For the sheer volume of the content he puts out combined with the quality , Nicks Strength and Power channel is a great bodybuilding and strongman fan channel. Luimarco is simply the clown commentator of bodybuilding. His over the top mancrush on Big Ramy is bordering on stalker. Also , if I hear anymore newbs saying the terms "he looks loyal" and "to be saluted" I think my head is going to explode , Scanners-Style.

I've seen a few of Nicks videos and enjoyed them very much! He did a vid a few months back on Rory Leidelmeyer, a bodybuilder whom I've always admired! God, I so love the Golden Era!

When I was a 13 year old kid just starting lifting those old concrete weights collecting spiderwebs in the garage, I bought Arnold's encyclopedia of BB because I wanted to look like Arnold. Then I flipped through the book and I kept seeing photos of Dorian. I though "fuck it, I want to look like THAT."
Always been my favorite bodybuilder, and he's a brilliant man to boot. Nowadays I don't know if I'll ever want to take the mass monster direction because I know exactly what compound made that evolution possible, and that's one thing I just don't know if I ever want to play with. He'll still always inspire me nonetheless. Thanks for posting.

Dorian was one of the few who had that grainy, flexed appearance while standing relaxed! Just superb granite like conditioning! He'll always be an inspiration!
