Metal and Rock Fans

ad

Do we have any old school fans here?
I think the last new bands that I've liked are Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters...after them haven't found anything that's been worth listening.
I'm open to suggestions so let them come.
Most of the time I'm still stuck with the great bands of 70's & 80's,

Puscifer is maynard's worst work brother are you kidding me?? lol

I agree, what I mean is that there is a pretty strong link between all 3 bands. Did you hear that Tool is touring ?

An album that is often overlooked that was one of my favorites as a teenager and beyond was Twisted Sister/Stay Hungry. That album kicked ass from front to back

There is a documentary about the rise of twisted sister on Netflix. If you are a TS fan you might like it.
I watched it the other night when I couldn't sleep.
I usually like most shit when I'm tired however this particular documentary seemed to be a slow painful buildup to absolutely nothing. Lol.

Pale's picture

Lol, yea I will pass on that one but I will highly recommend that Tom Petty documentary on Netflix , running down a dream. It is long but riveting , I have watched twice lol

Engineereddisaster's picture

I like Tom Petty just not a huge fan. Will it still be riveting if I've never been a pot head? Lol.

Well I cannot say for certain, obviously I have enjoyed the herb my entire adult life but I can say if you have ever played in a rock and roll band you will love it. Even if you haven't been in a band or aspired to be in one seeing and hearing the pure determination that Tom had is inspiring as hell. The story really has nothing to do with weed.

A little more industrial than metal, but say you were gonna steal a car, I'd suggest this one.

Jackson guitars, havent seen those for a while. So you play guitar also? Still have my custom made Jackson bass that I bought 1989. I'm lefty and there were none back then so I had to do that.

guitarplayer1's picture

4 Jacksons, 1 Gibson 1980 flying V, 2 Esp's, and 1 BC Rich.

I assume you're a metal guy?

Used to be more. Jackson was back then what lots of speed&thrash metal players used. Late 80's and early 90's. Then grunge came and ruined it all...lol..
I haven't played seriously in 20 years, but was ok player back then.
Never was only into metal but that was what i wanted to play back then, well at least in the beginning.
Had bunch of guitars then also, ...can't remember them all but lots of Gibson's and a Rickenbacker bass. Sold them all later and only have that Jackson bass left.
Someday man someday...

You should get back at it. Playing in a rock and roll band is probably second only to fucking. It is also a total pain in the ass at times as well, but as soon as I four click us in and everyone takes off it is magic.

aronl's picture

go for the prog metal

Fates Warning
Queensryche
Angra
nIghtwish

ballsack's picture

Nightwish, I 'be never liked them that much. Wrote some amazing music but Tarja's finnishEnglish is so terrible to my ear I just can't stand it and Anette's; deva jette bra! Swedish charisma just didn't sit well with the band's persona. Floor is good though, she should have been there from the beginning.

aronl's picture

Tarja is awesome. Just saw them live this spring. Floor is amazing and every bit of 6'0 and gorgeous.

Nice list,
i will give you credit for not being a cookie cutter.

I'm not making any recommendations. It depends on who you are and what you set out to do. I'm a powerlifter and I respond best to sounds of chaotic mayhem. Whatever makes you feel good and powerful. Selena Gomez makes me feel good but she can't make me move mountains of iron like Maria Brink of In This Moment ;)

Raghnall36's picture

Then I should get more Sepultura! Been doing too much skipping through songs without sweat Sepultura war drums! Lol

guitarplayer1's picture

Any newer band recommendations Rag?

Been blasting away to Seputura Chaos AD album lately. One of those albums that every song is good and don't have to skip around.
