sleep apnea

ad

I have sleep study scheduled for next month but I'm already pretty sure I have it. My wife took a video of me sleeping the other night and I was just gasping for breath in my sleep. Very disturbing watching yourself do that. I would stop breathing then start sucking and gasping for air like id been drowning. All while asleep. I also snore like a mother fucker too. I used a cpap machine last night for the first time and although I went to bed alot later than usual and woke early I felt more rested than usual. The mask was a real pain in the ass at first but once I learned how to breath through it I adjusted. My question is if this is prevalent in body building and steroid use. Thanks fam.

Androgens exacerbate obstructive sleep apnea.

I am in the same boat as you- not a BF issue at all. Here is what I found out- as I have had 2 sleep studies in the last 2 months.

  1. I had horrible apnea like you're describing when I was severely overweight. Once I lost the weight, my symptoms went away.

  2. I recently moved and my symptoms came back- hence the 2 studies lately. What they found is that I have Central Sleep Apnea, which is simply your brain not sending signals to breathe. Once your Co2 levels start to increase at night, receptor sites in your lungs send the signal to your brain to breathe. Central apnea only occurs in about 5% of all cases, and this is why you can be normal size and still have issues.

  3. Where I moved to is high altitude, which can lead to central sleep apnea, so I will have to deal with this until I move closer to sea level.

  4. Obstructive sleep apnea usually occurs due to people being overweight, BUT simple body structure (specifically the throat area) can lead to apnea because your airways are naturally restricted. This is most often the case when people who are normal weight have apnea.

  5. You need to be really careful with this because apnea will likely increase your blood pressure due to your heart being overworked at night with the lack of oxygen. As we all know, using certain AAS will increase your BP even more, and this could cause some serious health concerns.

Hope this helps to answer any of your questions, and if you want any more specifics, FR me and send me a PM. Good luck bro!!

I was diagnosed with it when I was 5, couldn't sleep for sh*t when I was a kid until I started using a CPAP which was a lifesaver considering I snored so bad that I would turn blue.. I used it up to my teen years and guess weight had a lit to do with it. I lost about 70 pounds in about 2.5 months when I was 16 all natural just straight dieting and playing lots of basketball and as a result I didn't snore anymore.. If your bf is really high try to cut some and hopefully it helps. Also try not eating right before bed, at least 4 to 5 hours. Goodluck!
