differentiating good gear from bad

Ok eroiders,
I've recently purchased some gear that IM a bit skeptical about. My question is, is there a way to tell if its good other than sending it in for testing or shooting it? Like say intentionally making it crash to see if it crystallizes.
Any input besides "yeah send it to me" is greatly appreciated.

Pull a little into a syringe and slowly let drops drip into a hot dry frying pan... you will know straight off if it has any hormone in it ..... it will be a smell you never forget...try that before you think about crashing a full bottle bro.
does he say what it will smell like?
naw man he didnt but I'm going to guess it wouldnt smell at all with just oil on the pan
