Red forehead.

ad

You ever seen the Simpsons when Homer does some very obviously dumb shit, exclaims "d'oh!" and slaps his forehead? This is basically what aging is like for me. Every now and again i reflect on life, look back on my decisions, and smack myself. The way i used to conduct myself in life, with girls, at work, with responsibility, with my HEALTH, with the law, with the general public, its all very cringey. I regret the way i treated people. Myself included.
I suppose choices are flawed from conception if your perception is flawed. I simply couldnt make a good choice because i viewed everything all wrong to begin with.
At this point in life im tired of looking stupid with my red forehead exclaiming "d'oh" and feeling regret. Sometimes we gotta step back and admit im not where i want to be and it has nothing to do with any system built against me or any innate hardship. I simply wasnt making the right choices and not putting in the work, the commitment. Ones i knew i should, but ignored.
Somewhere, right now, someone else is achieving what i want, with less privilege, less desire, but more will power, more consistency. I should have stayed longer, ate the extra meal i couldnt finish, flaked out on the bar friends, skip the party.
Ive made alot of wrong choices. My forehead hurts from smacking myself around.
Next time you think you put in enough, reflect on yourself. Where are you not consistent? Where are your flaws? Find them. Fix them. When i die, i will die empty, having done all the things i wanted. No regrets.
Do you ever look back at your youth and cringe?

There is a block of my life that would make anyone cringe if looking at the face of it. I went from a successful, exciting military enrollment into the private sector where I was jobless, had failed businesses, intravenous drug use, culminating in homelessness and jail time before I righted the ship.

However, I do not look at that time with regret. It was those years that has forged me, has given me insight, empathy, and the faith in myself to succeed and thrive.

I have experienced a full range of the human experiance. Something most people can not claim who were raised as white, upper middle class, americans with a good family and education.

Where others came into life and rode the teacups, I took the E ticket.

Thats full on bro, never picked that from your lingo/ typing, you come across as humerous yet very intelligent, never picked you for drugs/ jail or homelessness, have you ever been a fighter? As in beating people up?

Ive never been into " narcotics " i smoked pot in late teens but other than that never even tried or experimented.
I do still take heavy psych meds, pain killers which i quit two weeks ago ( would love some oxycontin with tramadol and some codeine right now though lmao! Jks.
Take valium if i feel a fit of rage ( violent outburst) coming on though, stops me ramming ppl of the roads lol.
Jail, yes but only 3 months max security at age 19 (31 now).
Definatly a fighter.

Intresting bro!

Greg's picture

Never a fighter. Learned how to avoid or talk my way out.

My father used to threaten me that I would get a beating if I was ever in a fight -whether I started it or not.

TheFlash85's picture

Lol fair enough! I didnt get punished for fighting yet rewarded ( i was bullied) they encouraged it.

I did grow up that swearing in front of mother/ sisters/ grandmother etc got me a smack in chops from older brothers / father though lol.

I've already told everyone whom I'm very close with that I'm indifferent whether or not I live past 50. I don't fear death one bit. It seems very peaceful. Losing my faith is the best thing that ever happened to me. Life is meaningless now and I have freed myself from the shackles of gods and masters. Now I can just focus on enjoying the life I have. Living is so much easier and more fulfilling when there truly are no consequences (no Heaven/Hell/divine retribution)

Red penis is far worse than red forehead.. constantly wanking on off.. achieving nothing but cardboard socks and a sore todger.

Made a fair few mistakes in my life, regret them all, but never have been jealous of what others have - whether they worked for or inherited them. I don't cringe about some of my actions as a youth - I did many unlawful things - thankfully never got caught. I just think of them as part of the rich tapestry of life. I have had a shitload of unique (lawful and unlawful) experiences - which I rarely talk about because people wouldn't believe them...but I know - I lived them. I set goals - worked for them - achieved almost all of them. I always wished that I had better genetics - so I could be huge - but I'm in my 60's now and believe that I look fairly decent for my age - so I accept the hand that life has dealt. My tenet for life - which I always told my students is: set goals in life, both in terms of personal and professional aspects - set short, medium and long term goals - focus and work for them. It gives life meaning and direction...and tangible rewards.

Revenge always fixes everything. Nothing like a few drive byes on a week night, what i do is take a 3 dollar can of spray paint with me, i chose a street gang i dont like and spray paint their gang name in the area before i shoot the houses up, they get the blame.

Then send flowers to the misses and mothers saying i hope you have a nice week and it goes of with a bang xoxo.

Then go home look in the mirror and smile, you are now a treachorous cunt like me, pat yourself on the back and plot the next game.

Enjoy

Good post. Certainly moments in my past that I cringe at as well, but I dont think Id trade most of em out. Past experiences make you who you are today...good and bad. Theres a handful that id love to erase for sure, but most are good memories, or lessons learned. Luckily, my worst decisions didnt end me in jail, a coffin, or crippled

Living in the past is a recipe for sadness and being stuck where you're at. The past should be a source to learn wisdom from and to improve. Everyone makes mistakes, move on and achieve the things you want and desire. Learn to forgive yourself and you'll be much happier and on the road forward.

The red on your forehead is probably just chafing, tell him to lube his balls up next time......... we live we learn bro. Everyone gets another chance unless ya dead, untill then its our choice. Its simple yet hard and depressing but in reality the meaning of life is we live to die, what we do inbetween is our choice. It goes by quick thats forsure. I regret most of the last 15 years and i spent alot of time dwelling on that, that time was wasted, no point dwelling on the past, look to the future, yesterday is gone, and tomorrow is another start, day by day. Good luck.

TheFlash85's picture

Its ok mate, can sense its a touchy subject for you, ill leave your red forehead alone.

Greg's picture

Mouth on twig, obviously.

TheFlash85's picture

Lol sorry mate, was joking too.

Greg's picture

No. reread the comment.

I just wondering how you (Flash) learned that piece of wisdom.

Answer: as Flash is so fond of saying, "Mouth on twig". (implication: he knows from experiance)

The comment was not directed at you but verbalizing what you were implying about him.

The only thing I ever regretted was being envious. Wanting to look like Lee Priest, wanting that big house and the fast car and the stripper wife. I realized now that I had a lot of those things minus the stripper wife but it came with a heavy price. More money means more bills means more hours and my possessions owned me not the other way around. I looked happy but inside I was dead. As I got older I started worrying more about myself and not caring about Lee Priest or the fast cars and big houses. I am now happier then I ever was. A happy life is more important to me. I just don't care if someone is bigger then me or has more money anymore or is married to a super model, I became comfortable with who I am.
That's the problem with people, they try so hard to impress others that each day they live a lie. I live the truth and sleep so good at night.

I'm just comfortable. I don't have a 6 pack, I have a 34 inch waist, I have 17%bf. I tried the bodybuilder life and I was more depressed because I lost strength and speed from when I powerlifted. I moved 1500 miles, I got a nice sports car, I live in a decent apartment. I live in my means and always try and smile. I go to the gym and see these young kids hopping out of their new corvettes and chargers that are juiced to the moon. They act tough and then get their ass kicked by someone you would call a nerd. I seen it happen just recently and it is what it is. Money, muscles, and a hot girlfriend will do nothing for your inflated ego if you can't survive with basic instincts. Do what makes you happy and worry about yourself, at the end of the day you will be sleeping in less then 5 minutes.

Good post. Only parts when I look back that make me cringe were my heavy black out drunk nights in my 20's. All done in good fun, never really hurt anyone but myself, but I could have done better. I did it too often, had all those same bar friends most of us had, and just enjoyed too much. I mostly look back and am very thankful I never got in trouble with the law for the stupid shit we did.

That's why I don't do Facebook or social media. I don't want anybody crawling out of the woodwork with a pic or comment "hey asshole, remember this"?

It's all spilled milk. You can't have a present or a future until you get over the past.
