I don't know if this is the new way of training
So I went to a gym last night as a guest with a buddy of mine that I work with. I haven't been able to use a lat pull down machine in a long time so I was looking forward to a really good back and shoulder workout.
I went in and it was a planet fitness I had heard really bad things about this place but it was ok compared to what I call real gyms.
I noticed that everyone around me though was lifting so wrong form was horrible and they were going through there reps at lightning speed. I wanted to say something but I didn't want to be that guy.
Or is this a new type of training that I don't know about. I was trained you use perfect form and push back and forth slowly through your lifts to get the max out of the movement. These guys were just walking up to a machine just as an example a smith bench press. They would unrack the weight and just push out 8-10 in around 6 seconds. I just don't see you getting the burn the stretch i basically felt like they all were just spinning there wheels and were not going to get anything out of it.
If im wrong and this is a new way to train. If someone could fill me in on how it actually does anything I would appreciate it maybe I could use it.
Just to add it wasn't like they were going from one lift straight to another then straight to another. They were just going through one set lightning fast and I just couldn't see any benefits.
Almost all of you guys here have a much better understanding of newer training programs. Im old school i still lift the way my sport coaches taught me. Im always looking to learn new things here though.
Thanks brothers

Powerlifting speed day, but I highly doubt powerlifters are attracted to PF. Slowly down, Explode up is the way to go. Size/Strength, so best of both worlds

I usually have to look away after two reps and get violently angry when they are bitching they don't get the results that everyone else gets so everyone is doing all the steroids and taking all the hgh and going to die in three days...
It could have been speed strength day, but I doubt it. Just a bunch of poser on the high road to a lifetime of pain and injuries. I started incorporating high intensity lifting with strict form. The results are worthwhile. Those posers are unlikely to figure it out.
bigmurphI truly believe that its an injury in the making
TronHere's something I wrote up back in 2013 on my experience at Planet Fitness, bro...It's definitely a strange place.

bigmurphThats hilarious thats exactly how I felt seeing these crazy signs.
You have to think though that they don't want members doing super sets or clinking weight but they let them lift like I saw? It looked like an accident waiting to happen zeb will use a gif one day from that place showing these idiots rupturing something lifting like that. Lol
TronBro...Planet Fitness is a silly place...my sister took me there years ago..and maybe its changed a bit now..but the one I went to had dumbells that only went up to 50 pounds..."Lunk Alarms" that staff would set off if you "made too much noise" if you were lifting..tootsie rolls in a dish at the front counter...a sign that said "Tuesday's are pizza day"..and they gave members free pizza...I went to weigh myself..couldn't find a scale....looked all around the gym for a scale..finally asked one of the "personal trainers" (That looked like MAYBE..they do some jogging every once in A while..a couple pushups on occasion)...I asked where a scale was..they told me (and this sounded scripted as hell)..."Here at Planet fitness we don't have scales because we are a judgement free zone"....Soooooo...I chose not to do any heavy exercises JUST IN CASE..I dropped a weight and or slightly grunted....not like they had heavy weights anyways.....but God forbid I make a sound and set off a "lunk alarm"...so I grabbed the 50 pounders and did several sets with high reps....then because I knew I would not be coming back....I saw they had a complaint box..but instead I left them a nice king sized milky way type nut filled upper decker....I feel that was a much better statement.
bigmurphYou're fucking hilarious but right on point
The trainer i saw couldn't have been more than 150lbs soaked. He maybe new his stuff but damn sure didn't practice it
Tronand not only did they give this motherfucker a slice of pizza before he did his "ab routine" In the "Bill cosby sweater"...but they gave his fat ass a big purple plate to carry his pizza arround...
bigmurphI just almost crashed my work van laughing so hard
Fucking brilliant marketing plan, a gym that keeps you fat so you keep coming back. My better half rightfully said that it his choice.
And only $10/20 per month in some spots, they won't even notice it on their bank statement for the next 15 years
RustyhookerSounds like folks that aren't well disciplined. There's strict form and you describe. And cheat form for end of exercise when its barely a rep. Arnold loved cheats at the end.
Super fast reps to me.... i see a rip, tear and minimal growth.
bigmurphThe way they were lifting rusty its definitely an injury in the making once they start lifting heavier.
I just didn't want to say anything though I didn't want to be that guy.
It is usually a healthy mix of people trying to do it right and failing or people without a clue doing it all wrong. I don't get it, but maybe it is because I spend at least an hour a day watching lifting videos or reading lifting articles...
That's my mindset. If I'm going to the gym, I want my time spent as efficiently as possible
bigmurphThat is something I have started the reading of articles talking about proper lifting techniques.
It has definitely helped
I see alot of people working out wrong period no matter where I go....my son points it out alot to me...
bigmurphIts true
Yea I see guys push and pull all kinds of weight but it's without purpose to them. There working all kinds of other muscles and mostly there back and it spills over to others muscule groups. So there thick and shit but no shape and physice looks over and under developed.....
Hell I could push and pull a shit load more but there isn't any use in it for me.
bigmurphThats exactly it im thinking these guys are doing more cardio doing what there doing then actually working there muscles.
I really did think that I might have been out of touch and this was a new training regimen because all of them were lifting like this around me. I was the only one keeping form and moving my reps slowly trying to get everything out of it. im glad every one just made me feel better that I wasn't out of touch with new techniques
Its still the same, isolation and there is no substitution for hard work, just have to it right for the goal you're trying to obtain.
People at my gym load up the Smith machine to the Gill and do lat pulls as fast as a rabbit can fuck I'm like wtf ru guys doing if I use it i put on 2 45s each side max and do slow nice squeeze reps and there all like what a pussy can't even lift that much truth is you don't need massive weight for traps so I say fuck those guys
bigmurphThis is exactly what I saw like fucking jack rabbits didn't make any sense i thought it was something I just didn't know about
That place is deffinatly a joke and banks off the members that sign up and rarely come in or pay for a membership but don't show up at all. Tells you what kind of gym it is when they make fun of bodybuilding, have pizza days and have candy at the front desk lol
bigmurphWhen I saw that sign i thought it was genius thats how you keep them coming back just fatten them up don't ever let them get the weight off
Planet Fitness..."Home of the Luncks"! Don't wear a stinger tank! lol
TronAnd be sure to cover up as much muscle as you can...you go in there looking swole and they will tell you..."We don't want your kind around here!" lol
bigmurphI know they had signs on the wall lol
That place is a joke. Give me an old school iron gym any day. I will say I do use a lot of hammer strength type equipment these days. Easier on the joints.. Either way be in a place your allowed to lift heavy and lift hard!
bigmurphIm used to an entire free weight workout so the machines were strange to me except the lat pull down
It's the metrosexual workout... all the rage... crossfit was too hard.
bigmurphLol
These guys that were doing this even looked the part also
Lmfao. You're crazy.....lol....
I think it's how you get the "catelogue" look these days mate
bigmurphYou have to explain catalogue im guessing you mean magazine cover but if im wrong im sure its even funnier
No bro...that's exactly what it means it's what we say in the UK ;)
We also have people who lift like that....I guess these young guys just want to look like Justin beiber instead of Arnold ;)
bigmurphYep I don't see the point of going that route
Paper thin and just cut you can get that just with diet
Pretty sure planet former is for fat lazy people haha. Heard bad things as well. A friend of mine was there and he was putting up a good amount of weight on bench and he was told to tone it down to not embarrass other members. I see people do the super fast rep thing at my gym now, no benefit to it, other than getting the most reps as possible at the given weight....I don't say anything...unless it's a hot chick LOL
bigmurphI honestly thought it might have been a new training technique i wanted to make sure that I wasn't behind on the times
