I don't know if this is the new way of training

So I went to a gym last night as a guest with a buddy of mine that I work with. I haven't been able to use a lat pull down machine in a long time so I was looking forward to a really good back and shoulder workout.

I went in and it was a planet fitness I had heard really bad things about this place but it was ok compared to what I call real gyms.

I noticed that everyone around me though was lifting so wrong form was horrible and they were going through there reps at lightning speed. I wanted to say something but I didn't want to be that guy.

Or is this a new type of training that I don't know about. I was trained you use perfect form and push back and forth slowly through your lifts to get the max out of the movement. These guys were just walking up to a machine just as an example a smith bench press. They would unrack the weight and just push out 8-10 in around 6 seconds. I just don't see you getting the burn the stretch i basically felt like they all were just spinning there wheels and were not going to get anything out of it.

If im wrong and this is a new way to train. If someone could fill me in on how it actually does anything I would appreciate it maybe I could use it.

Just to add it wasn't like they were going from one lift straight to another then straight to another. They were just going through one set lightning fast and I just couldn't see any benefits.

Almost all of you guys here have a much better understanding of newer training programs. Im old school i still lift the way my sport coaches taught me. Im always looking to learn new things here though.
Thanks brothers

Powerlifting speed day, but I highly doubt powerlifters are attracted to PF. Slowly down, Explode up is the way to go. Size/Strength, so best of both worlds

I usually have to look away after two reps and get violently angry when they are bitching they don't get the results that everyone else gets so everyone is doing all the steroids and taking all the hgh and going to die in three days...

It could have been speed strength day, but I doubt it. Just a bunch of poser on the high road to a lifetime of pain and injuries. I started incorporating high intensity lifting with strict form. The results are worthwhile. Those posers are unlikely to figure it out.

Fucking brilliant marketing plan, a gym that keeps you fat so you keep coming back. My better half rightfully said that it his choice.

And only $10/20 per month in some spots, they won't even notice it on their bank statement for the next 15 years

It is usually a healthy mix of people trying to do it right and failing or people without a clue doing it all wrong. I don't get it, but maybe it is because I spend at least an hour a day watching lifting videos or reading lifting articles...

That's my mindset. If I'm going to the gym, I want my time spent as efficiently as possible

I see alot of people working out wrong period no matter where I go....my son points it out alot to me...

zeb0312's picture

Yea I see guys push and pull all kinds of weight but it's without purpose to them. There working all kinds of other muscles and mostly there back and it spills over to others muscule groups. So there thick and shit but no shape and physice looks over and under developed.....

Hell I could push and pull a shit load more but there isn't any use in it for me.

Its still the same, isolation and there is no substitution for hard work, just have to it right for the goal you're trying to obtain.

People at my gym load up the Smith machine to the Gill and do lat pulls as fast as a rabbit can fuck I'm like wtf ru guys doing if I use it i put on 2 45s each side max and do slow nice squeeze reps and there all like what a pussy can't even lift that much truth is you don't need massive weight for traps so I say fuck those guys

That place is deffinatly a joke and banks off the members that sign up and rarely come in or pay for a membership but don't show up at all. Tells you what kind of gym it is when they make fun of bodybuilding, have pizza days and have candy at the front desk lol

That place is a joke. Give me an old school iron gym any day. I will say I do use a lot of hammer strength type equipment these days. Easier on the joints.. Either way be in a place your allowed to lift heavy and lift hard!

No bro...that's exactly what it means it's what we say in the UK ;)

We also have people who lift like that....I guess these young guys just want to look like Justin beiber instead of Arnold ;)

Pretty sure planet former is for fat lazy people haha. Heard bad things as well. A friend of mine was there and he was putting up a good amount of weight on bench and he was told to tone it down to not embarrass other members. I see people do the super fast rep thing at my gym now, no benefit to it, other than getting the most reps as possible at the given weight....I don't say anything...unless it's a hot chick LOL
