+ 2 Cauliflower Ear
Caulifower Ear.
WTF is that? Ever notice some of your favorite MMA fighters ears. Beautiful aren't they? Balled up hard shitty looking ears resembling the ears of Slaw from the Goonies? That my friends is cauliflower ear.
It's pretty common in boxers, wrestlers and, MMA fighters. It's caused by trauma to the ear that ruptures blood vessels separating the skin from the cartilage in the ear. After the separation, the cartilage doesn't have any way to recieve blood so it shrivels up, dies, and makes a dudes ear look like a chunk of cauliflower. I know as a kid I thought it looked pretty badass until my sophomore year in High school noticed after a tough day of wrestling practice that the top of my right ear was swollen. I really didn't want to look badass, I wanted to look pretty because the ladies liked me pretty. I went home that day and showed my dad, who happened to be a boxer in his younger days. He laughed and told me to run to the drug store and buy a few syringes. Told me he would take care of it. I didn't know that you could buy syringes at the drug store? So I ran to the drug store, told the pharmacist that I needed a couple of syringes to suck the blood out of my cauliflower ear. He didn't even flinch at the idea. Little did I know that I would use cauliflower ear as the excuse to by syringes in the future...
So I went home and my dad grabbed a syringe stuck it in my ear until it slid into the blood pocket easily, and he sucked the blood out of my ear. When he was finished, my ear looked normal again. He told me to grab a cold compress and put pressure on both sides of my ear for an hour and that we would do the same thing the next day. After a few weeks of doing this, I noticed that my ear started to harden and heal and it didn't look too bad. Just as I was starting to feel pretty again, my other ear recieved a couple of very hard blows (no homo)and I had to repeat the process.
I noticed as the years went by, (and the more aggressive that my sporting events became) that I was fighting a losing battle with cauliflower ear. I found myself on a nightly basis sticking syringes into both of my ears draining the blood. I've always been a pretty man, and hated to see my beautiful ears go to shit. As time has gone on, my ears are now hard as hell. They look somewhat normal to the untrained eye, but if you look at them directly or even touch them you know that my ears were dealt a pretty shitty hand in this life.
Thanks for reading.
You may have just read this and thought: "Why the hell did Ed just write that fricken novel about his ears?" Well kids, besides being a narcissist and like to talk about myself, I just gave you a good angle to purchase syringes.
Take some cotton, and some tape. Bandage the top of your ear, walk into a pharmacy and tell them you need a box of syringes to suck the blood out of your damaged cauliflower ear. It's much easier than pretending to be a junkie, and instead of getting the funny look from a pharmacist, you get a look of respect.
For a final thought.
I see a lot of guys with UFC shirts, belt buckles, bumper stickers etc. I think that's fine a dandy, however having a UFC shirt doesn't tell me that you are a badass. It may tell some people that you are a badass but, the only thing it tells me is that you like to watch UFC on TV.
Now, when I run into someone with some sort of MMA branded item, the very first thing that I look at after I look at his physique (no homo) are his ears. If they are balled up shitty looking pieces if cauliflower... Well, I'm probably going to take you a little more seriously.

CleyonI told myself I'd resist unless someone commented like this. Last night a guy in a "TapOut" shirt showed up with his pregnant baby momma to buy fireworks at the stand where I was standing trying to buy fireworks. I'd been waiting for 15 when Mr. TapOut showed up with BabyMomma. He tried to step right in front of me, loudly barking at the lady working there about what he wanted. I put my arm out, and said as politely as I could, "There is a line." This kid actually chest bumped me!
Anyway, things starting degrading really quick (I was in my work clothes purple Polo included which didn't help anything). Finally I said very clearly, "You do have health insurance, right?" Him and BabbyMomma turned around and walked away. People clapped. The End.
You see bro, this is what I'm talking about. If you had taken just one ED-KUN-DO course you would have handled the situation quite differently.
EKD Rule number 4:
When faced with an opponent with a "TAPOUT" shirt, always assume that he is the baddest mother effer alive.
What should have happened is...after the chest bump, you should have squeeled in your best Richard Simmon's voice: "I DONT HAVE INSURANCE!" and should have taken off running. You gotta be thinking about number 1 at all times.
CleyonI wasn't in a great mood at that point. I was kinda hoping he'd swing, but it ended better that way. I assume anyone wearing a TapOut shirt is unemployed and wants to suck off Joe Rogan, but that's just me. ;-)
I think having your ass whooped a few times a having a little forgotten BJJ goes a little farther than buying a shirt on the UFC online store.
Besides, The Veins popping out of your vascularized face would probably weigh a little heavier than the scars.
Me, I'm just a pussy but I am a fast running sonofabitch. One look at my legs and one knows that messing with me is stupid because there is no way that they are going to catch me, and if they are fast enough to do that they better prepare for me to mace their ass. If they make it past that second mace defense, me screaming rape in a high pitched voice always buys me enough time to call the cops.
I haven't had my ass kicked since the 7th grade using ED-KUN-DO, the art of fleeing.
I like your angle about getting the syringes. Nice. My husband always tells the pharmacist his wife is diabetic. They look back at him like they don't really care. Lol
Now you can tell them that your husband has cauliflower ear.
Lol
AnonI used to wrestle but never got cauliflower ear because i wore my headgear!
Did you wrestle on a College level?
I think tt's pretty tough for a guy to wrestle on a collegic level and not get it. I've seen it done, but not very often. A guy has to be pretty religious about his head gear, and you just get too many situations, often just dicking around that you don't have your headgear.
Take Brock Lesnar. One ear is good, the other Shitty. You don't notice it looking at him face to face but if you look at his right ear from the side it's very noticable.
my room mate is a collegiate national qualifier. he teaches me some stuff every now and then. i like the fireman's carry. i wish i did a fighting sport. on a side note... i dont wear ufc/fighting brand shirts. lol, im just not that cool
Does your roommate have cauliflower ear?
Bro, I think you are cool enough to wear UFC/fighting shirts.
his cauliflower ear is hardly noticeable. he doesn't come home from practice every day having to drain it or anything. the ear protection he has helps a lot.
AnonNope never got to collegiate level i probably could of i placed twice in state but just didn't want to pursue it anymore i was miserable. My senior year i cut like 25 pounds to make weight. It was awful running everyday with that sweatsuit eating only oranges and steak man i was pissed off all the time. But im surprised i never got cauliflower i wrestled since i was 6
56tooLOL, Yeah did u notice ever since MMa became the next big thing everybody and their brother was a MMA fighter. When I was younger........a lot younger, you had to earn your belts in martial arts. Now it seems you can just buy them and many do. It makes me think bout this guy at the gym. He comes in and he'll walk up and down the mirrors throwing the most novice fucking kicks I ever seen. All that tells me is that he is one insecure piece of shit that wld probably start crying the first time he got bitch slapped
CleyonWhen I see someone with cauliflower ear it tells me that they have spent a significant part of their life in the clutch. I was anal-retentive (no homo) about head gear in wrestling specifically because I didn't want to get cauliflower ear. There was only one guy on my HS wrestling team that got cauliflower, and he wasn't even in spiting distance of the best wrestler on the team.
My first cauliflower ear came while wearing head gear, they weren't the cup style of course, but I can generally tell a seasoned double eared set of cauliflower ears from some kid who just got his ass beat a few times. Take a look at Randy Couture's ears. I bet your little buddy in HS. doesn't have ears like that.
Now on a side note, I'm not saying that cauliflower ears dictate weather you are a badass or not. I'm just saying, When I see a yoked bastard with balled up shitty ears, I take his badassedness a little more seriously.
CleyonI definitely agree with that. The cup style headgear is all I ever wore, so I'm guessing the leather style weren't nearly as protective. And no, Jimmy (the whimp) didn't have Couture style cauliflower!
BTW, for me the eyes usually tell the story.
Leather Style... Come on I'm not that old. Lol
Aren't you a Southern Boy? Didn't think there was Wrestling in the South?
It's called wrastling in the south!!! Lol
CleyonMy trophy from the Tri-State tournament I won says differently! It's definitely not as big as Football, but there are some good wrestling programs down here. My coach was a counterpart of Dan Gables' and Coach Gable used to come down and recruit at our school.
