building muscle with crohn's disease

ad

well i was diagnosed years ago now with this disorder,to be honest i think im one of the lucky ones i dont get many problems with it...my doc put me on medication every day for the rest of my life to control my (flare ups) i was only young maybe 17 when i found out so i didnt care one little bit and to this day i have not taken 1 single tablet even tho im ment to take them everyday....ive had zero problems apart from little gas and the odd cramping,i can eat what i want when i want and dont get any problems...its only now ive just looked in to it...from what i have read if you suffer from this your your body can not take in all the nutrients it needs your bowel and gut kills them off...so what iv been thinking recently is? is this the problem for my low weight and why i feel really bad if i dont get alot off vitamins in the day from fruits and veg and multivitamins....and why i have only built such a little amount of muscle to all my friends i trained with for the same amount of time...does anyone else suffer from this problem and use medication everyday to control there acid and flare ups? does it help?..if it is true and my body does burn off all my nutrients and goodies what shall i do? any advice? DOUBLE up on protein and vitamins fruits and veg to make sure i get anything?

really looking for some advice:) i will be speaking to my doc soon and see what he says but as soon as you mention bodybuilding they dont care

good morning Carl, let me introduce you to my kid sisters first fiance, we'll call him Max. Max was diagnosed with Crohn's his freshman year, young like you, also like you he ignored his treatment regimen recommended by his doctors and for a few years he thought he was doing well, after a weekend of him feeling sick, craping blood his visit to the ER reveled he was needing to have a section of his colon removed. I can't recall just how much however I do remember that it was significant and very serious. plz don't let this be you and give this the attention it deserves. best wishes brother!

Crohns seems to get worse as you age, so take care of your self bro. Have you made any changes to your diet? I hear lots of people reporting good results from eliminating simple sugars and simple carbs from the diet.

no change it diet bro i can eat whatever i want take any supplement i want and no problems...ill tell you how i was diagnosed with this disorder......1 night in my younger years when i was 18 years old and just starting out on aas (very smart age:l what a **** i was) i was taking pharma naposim 40mg a day about 10 days in i was getting really bad cramps in my bowels so i thought it would be a smart idea to go out drinking next morning i awoke in crazy pain always on the toilet and been sick, about 12hours after this when i had nothing left to come out then it became only blood coming out so i went to the hospital back and fourth they finally figured out what it was and put me on steroids to take the inflamation down in my bowels..anyway 2 days later i got out of hospital and they gave me this whole treatment plan which i did not follow because at such a young age i did not care...2 years later i had another go with naposim without the drinking lol and the exact same cramping feeling came back in my bowels...i then figured out i cannot take naposim without it destroying my bowel, but the funny thing is any other dbol from any other lab is fine no problems......

ive read some awful stuff people have to go threw and mines nothing like that...just need to know if the medication i will take everyday will allow my body to absorb nutrients more? because apart from that im fine...ive not had a flare up in six years

SL's picture

They shouldn't affect your absorption of nutrients any, there just used to keep your intestines from being inflamed. Prednisone is just bad news period idk if u take that but it's not good in the long run, anything else is okay. When my wife get a flare her food just goes right through her and that would cause malnutrience but if your having normal bm's then your as good as your gonna get

i just dont want to take pills every day that have side effects when i dont get any syptoms....i think the only syptoms i get is some cramping after going to the toilet...i go to the toilet once a day 2 times max always at the same times in the day

SL's picture

I would want to either, but I'm no dr. You should tell him you have no symptoms and you haven't been taking your meds he may tell you not to take them then

Yeah bud, it's a good idea to get on the meds. Personally I would have your doc get you on pentasa.
It's expensive and you should take it three times a day. Even though your flares are minor, they still mess with your digestion. Medicate it, get it into remission and maintain it regularly or it will eventually kick your ass. Get into a good gastroenterologist and find out where the flares are at and treat it from there. If the flares are low in the colon ask your doc about Canasa. If it's all over hit pentasa. Try to stay away from prednisone. It's catabolic, however if shit is bad ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Maintain brother, you don't want an exterior shit sack.
Good luck.

thanks for the advice bro i just got back from the docs he put me on some thing called asacol? 3 tablets two times a day..he said the same thing as you did just because im getting syptoms it does not mean its not effecting me....also had a blood test for anemia and vitamin b and iron problems...all good in that department:)..ill keep the post open and let you know if my life changes in anyway so to speak

carl3553's picture

does the pentasa help with digestion? and how bro?

With Crohn's and the little flare ups, your gastrointestinal tract is basically getting small ulcerations and inflammations. The medication can stop the inflammation from progressing and causing ulcers. You take the meds and they work and you can actually bring your system in to remission and the gastrointestinal tract will function normally.
Ignore it and it could possibly progressively get worse. You don't want that shit to get away from you.
Also, if you are using casein as a source of protein pay attention to your flares. That shit can tear a lot of people up with crohns.
Yeah bro, don't neglect it. Even though right now it may be minor manifestations that shit might surprise you with a full on ass kicking. Ask around, find the best gastroenterologist you can find and do whatever he tells you. Don't dick around with the shitty surgeons or md's, do some research and go to the very best and treat that shit.
