Tips for preparing steel cut oats
ad
I bought a couple lbs of steel cut oats after a suggestion from my older brother who is 38 6'1" 240lb and has a room full of semi-pro bb trophies... We dont talk much though...
He said to boil them 20 min... I have tried to prepare them twice, and could barely eat them one of the two times... The 1st time it was like I was chewing on little rocks or something. the second time I boiled them for 30 min adding water a couple different times, they were edible, but barely... Any tips on how to prepare and possibly variations in use would be helpful... Thanks... I usually make my oats w/ aspartame, a few raisins, and a healthy dash of cinnamon.

use rolled oats doesnt take as long!
AnonBoil water first, pour oats in and turn the heat down to let them simmer, add 1tbs of brown sugar and a couple shakes of cinnamon, you can follow the directions on the package until you figure out how to tweak it on your own.....I cheat sometimes and add a lil bit of butter :-)
Cook in crock pot overnight. then do like Abnormal said.
Awesome thanks, i knew there had to be a trick... Cause the way I made them wasnt happening... I read about benefits and I think they are going to be an awesome addition to my diet. thanks again guys.
I always heard fatgirls and mopeds have a lot in common there fun to ride until your friends see ya... and I've ridden both I think I liked the moped better.
AnonI cook 5 days worth at a time and refrigerate. They cut(when chilled)into perfect sections. Take out a section, place in bowl, add a little water and nuke them until hot. This gives you hot steel cuts every time in less than 5 minutes and the double cook softens them up very well. Overnight soak is also good.
AnonIf you start consuming allot of steel cut oats and ride a moped you should consider one like I drive.
AnonPre soak em over night.
