Who here uses a training mask?

ad

Hello,

I recently purchased a training mask, see link:

https://www.trainingmask.com/training-masks/training-mask-2-0/?utm_mediu...

After a week of use I can actually tell my leg day breathing this morning was better. I would say it was an incredible jump, but better stamina and I wasn't bending over after squats. I can imagine if I contine to blend cardiovascular training daily with this mask it will only get better. To give an idea, I do tractor flips in the heat, where I am it's around 95. I sweat my ass off and fight myself to keep the mask on, but if you just breath and take a min of rest you will regain. It's designed to replicate altitude.

Does anyone have advice that is further along with the mask. I bought the 2.0 version but the just released a 3.0 as well.

Thanks.

I think the look alone should convince most to try this out! Mask, big-ass headphones, and the pièce de résistance: sunglasses! You're freak'n Vader! Biggest bass-ass in the gym!

I don't need one...I have asthma. Wearing one of those masks is like saying asthma attacks gets you in shape.

Look up old posts on blue magnify glass.
I remember posts on them.

Treadm has touched on it.

After a pretty straight forward, across the board, return the mask, this is what I'll be doing. Thanks everyone for the advice, couldn't show just what eroids.com is here for more then this. I'm always a fool for a new training tool, but for my safety on this one, it's going back. Again thanks everyone.

No point. It's smoke and mirrors. Except I wish I would have invented and sold 100000 units.

Up your cardio if you're noticing being winded too much between sets. I run into this time to time and within a week of upping daily cardio I notice a jump in recovery between sets. These masks seem dangerous and unnecessary.

Or go full Schwarzenegger and bring an oxygen tank into the gym for leg day lol

I remember someone posting that there buddy got a bubble in his blood stream and it went to his brain because of one of these masks also I saw a story of a firefighter who dropped dead from these masks.

Return it please i don't want to hear something bad happened to you

Was my friend bro wore the mask 2 years straight everyday for workout in October had a stroke now is paralyzed from waste down and needs to be fed, doctors said it was body that couldn't take no more and sent a blood clot travelled from is heart to and finished in his brain, was doing cardio for off the stair master went in the stretching room and had a stroke, 41 yo, didn't have any stroke history in his family everyone is pretty sure it was the mask!!! Stay away I don't know if it was a freak accident or the mask but by the looks everyone plus the docs says it's that, I'm not going to risk it..

I new I remembered that story.
I wish your boy the best.
These masks are bad and the story about the firefighter is another real story. Im sure there have to be more. Im surprised it hasn't come out mainstream that these are dangerous

I wear a batman mask myself. I don't really like Bane.

Wait, I thought I needed O2 while training. Have I been doing it wrong?

But seriously, stop. What are you hoping to accomplish?

Caeser's picture

There are benefits for specific athletes to train with limited O2...MMA, boxers, surfers, swimmers, free divers, etc. one could argue the benefits for a competitive bodybuilder... having to hold poses with controlled breath.

Simply holding your breath & attempting to walk can yield fantastic results (little more to it - but that's the jist)...

The main concern I would say is the potential CO2 "poisoning"

NoWeakAces's picture

There's plenty of concern with the masks. My comment was sarcastic. Bodybuilders, when trying to grow, receive zero benefit from O2 deprivation.

Caeser's picture

I was simply expanding on the topic of O2 deprivation...not while training with an apparatus, but through proper breathing techniques.
Respekt.

Looking to increase stamina for weight training. I been getting my ass kicked in the endurance dept. Have added the mask but from what I have been getting in response I may drop it.

These masks are attempting to create hypoxia (oxygen reduced environments)... the problem with this tool is that it's not reducing the available oxygen... it's just making breathing harder... making your lung muscles work harder. There is a big difference between reduced pressure of air at altitude vs. restricting air intake.

These masks can be dangerous, can cause the following:
[1] Hypercapnia - a state of high C02 in the blood & tissues.
- the mask can trap C02, so not only do you have restricted breathing - but you're inhaling more C02
[2] Elevated blood pressure
[3] Elevated cardiac output - more strain on heart
[4] Blood acidosis

The red flag with these masks is that they run for less than $100... and Machines which ACTUALLY do create hypoxia (altitude training benefits) cost several thousand dollars.

A few ways I've improved breathing are the breath exercisers - which improve diaphragmatic strength.
*expand-a-lung
*power lung
These will not allow for C02 to get caught = hypercapnia. And you will notice a difference in lung capacity, endurance.

Alternative methods that actually work:
[1] invest in a hyperbaric chamber = thousands of dollars
[2] Move to Colorado or Park City UT

Lastly, I have heard that using a Sauna after a workout could increase RBC - amongst other benefits.

Exactly, the only way to do it properly is to train in high elevation.

Thanks a lot, now I'm rethinking everything. All seriousness why does it actually work, and how are they legally sold if what you are saying is true. I'm not saying what your saying is incorrect, but how is something like this capable to be on the market, for dummies like me?

Caeser's picture

You're not a dummy... it "works" because it's improving diaphragmatic & lung strength...the other tools I mentioned can do the same thing (so can working on breathing technique-through breathing exercises. Swimming is a great way to work on breathe technique)... The mask just has additional potential negatives mainly because the C02 can get trapped... breathing in C02 is very dangerous.

Lastly, you will find it very difficult to find any research that supports that it "works" from a physiological perspective. There is no evidence that they in any way stimulate the physiology of training at altitude... creating more RBC...

It's on the market because they can make the claim that it's "like altitude training"... and until people die or research comes out debunking it... they can continue to stay on the market.

For altitude training to take effect -- it takes at least four weeks to see an adaptation. That's why athletes that use the chambers sleep in them...

DragonDog's picture

Yep, masks increase diaphragm strength. Nothing else. There are plenty of studies available on NCBI debunking the myth they increase hematocrit levels. Even the chambers have been proven bunk unless you live in them nearly 24/7. Placebo affect at its best.

At first I laughed then after hearing you review I'll look into them further.

When I'm back to training at home..

There's this big black dude at my gym who wears one, always makes me think of Ving Rhames getting buggered in pulp fiction.

Looking like Frank Booth at the gym and shit. No thanks.

daksmack's picture

I don't wear inside the gym, there's a tractor tire out back that know one used except a few of us. Lol
