Who Donates Blood
I just recently started donating blood. Saturday will be my second time donating whole blood (the center by my house doesn't do the double red). The reason I started doing it is because my RBC is always pretty high. So are my hemoglobin, hemocrit and Iron levels. Blood pressure been usually no higher than 140/90.
Anyways, to the point...they say not to work out the day you donate. After I donate I'm in no way dizzy, disoriented, woozy, etc. Feel the same as I did when I walked in. The ask me if I want a cookie or juice as I'm walking toward the door, I say no thanks, jump in my car and roll.
Anybody here ever work out the same day they donate. I hate missing a Saturday. Maybe since I donate early in the morning I'll be fine by evening. Just wondering if anybody ever been in those shoes.

I have never given it , there never seems to be a blood drive going nearby when I am ready to give. But draining two pints myself I doubt gives double reds and that is what I really want to do. This next time I am going to wait for a drive and do it right. I have gotten pretty good at doing it myself tho..
haha...wow. that's like survivalist animal status. Book of Eli world methodology for thinning blood ;-)
Doing it yourself?!!? Damn Pale, stop doing that. If you were to pass out for some reason, it happens, you could bleed out and die.
When you give double reds, they put your plasma back in. They don't keep the whole blood.
If you did pass out, you won't bleed out. The blood tries like hell to congeal. I have never once felt the slightest bit dizzy either.
That's the most hardcore shit I've ever heard. Something I'd expect Rambo to do after he digs out a bullet with a Bowie knife.
You would be amazed how that two pints of blood turns into basically a bowl of blood jello except heavier, tougher consistency. You cannot just dump it down the drain, too late for that. If you get lucky you can flush it but sometimes even that is complicated. It will give you a whole new appreciation of how hard it would be to clean up a crime scene.
It's called blood pudding
4 cups fresh palerider blood
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 cups steel-cut (pinhead) oatmeal
2 cups finely diced pork fat (or beef suet), finely chopped
1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
1 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 Preheat the oven to 325°F and grease 2 glass loaf pans.
2 Bring 2 1/2 cups water to a boil and stir in the oats. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes.
3 Pour the blood through a fine sieve into a large bowl to remove any lumps. Stir in the fat, onion, milk, pepper, allspice and remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons salt. Add the oatmeal and mix to combine. Divide the mixture between the loaf pans, cover with foil, and bake for 1 hour, until firm. Cool completely. Seal in plastic wrap and wither freeze for extended use or store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
4 To serve, cut a slice about 1/2-inch thick off the loaf. Fry in butter or oil until the edges are slightly crisped and browned.
Hahaha! You are crazy man!
I'm doing a double red Thursday. Like clockwork.
Did Double Red yesterday...Feel great!!!! Every 4 months...
When I donate blood. I go to the gym first. Then donate after, I work out.
I have donated and worked out In the same day. I always take precaution and make sure I'm in good shape before hand. No dizziness fatigue or any other thing synonymous with donating sides. Obviously I don't go hit my biceps hardcore, especially since my veins tend to be hard to hit due to the way they lay on my bicep. You should be fine so long as you make sure you feel ok like on a non donor day. Besides for health reasons you want a productive workout. So keep donating drink plenty of water that day with plenty of vitamin c and KEEP ON LIFTING
I do Double Red Cell Donation's
I donate plasma not blood. Have for 16 years on and off. I donate the same day I workout no problem. I usually try and let a good bit of time go by in between though. I'll either donate early morning then workout late evening or night time or I workout early and donate late. I never do both in the same 6 hour period or anything like that. At least a good 9 or 10 hours in between, not because I think I will pass out or some shit but because I don't wanna be working out and blow a vein. I can donate on an empty stomach then grab a beer time I leave and feeljust fine. Doesn't really affect me but that could be because of how many years I have done it.
Is this healthy? Gear increases your RBC count and that's what makes your blood thick. Thicker blood = more work for your heart and higher BP. When you give plasma, the watery portion of your blood, you're just making it thicker, right? Guess you've been alright for 16 years tho.
I schedule my donations on rest days just to be safe
Why not? If your levels are above normal and you're donating to lower them to a better range, what's the issue?
As long as your BP doesn't drop like a rock and your body can maintain perfusion you will be fine.
Passing out isn't your only concern. If you donate blood and then go to the gym you risk blowing your vein and bleeding internally.
You will bleed a bit of you blow a vein and it will cause some pressure. However it's nothing in comparison to an artery. Veins are not very pressurized.
Yes and I jus usually workout before I donate..
All the time...I donated on tues and did some training 2 hours later. Damn nurses and doctors don't know shit really IMO. I eat like a horse every day I give blood and drink a gallon of water anyway...I wouldn't let their "advice" bother you. Just my $.02
