+ 1 Kid starts football today

ad

So today my 12 yr old son is starting football. It’s going to be 11-13 yr olds I believe, or however old 6,7th and 8th graders are, and idk how they split up the teams. He loves playing basketball and has played a sport every year but he’s not really an athlete. He’s gunna get killed if they do lots of sprints and cardio stuff lol especially because it’s two and half hour practices , but it’ll do him some good.

Hes tall and not super skinny but he’s not thick either. Just a tiny bit bigger than average. So I know he’s not gunna do great, he’s just not a natural athlete and he’s not just like a 200 pound brick wall either. He runs funny, one of his legs kinda turns in so he’s slower than most.
I want to give him the best advantage I can. What’s the best things he can eat and drink today and just daily through out the season? Like would some bcaas before the long practices help, protein shake after?or his he too young and gets enough from food? Just lots of water and healthy meals the day of and some Gatorade at practice be good enough?

I know they’re just kids, but it’s gunna kill me if he’s just out there struggling and I know it’ll kill his self esteem and confidence too, so I’d just like to give him the best shot possible at doing his best. I wish I could load him up with everything I got in the stash and some c4 preworkout before games Lmao. But any advice on anything that’ll help him on game day or just throughout the season would be appreciated!

PSA- I don’t think I need to say this but just in case. I will not be giving him anything from my stash or anything like that, I was joking when I said that above, oh and no preworkout either.

So cancel all that. We get to practice and we’re getting him signed in and then they say he can’t play. The guys says “idk who let you register him but 6th grade can’t play just 7th and 8th” but it’s says it no where in the website and they even let us sign up and got a physical and everything. I’m actually kind of relived, those were some big ass kids out there and they take it serious. My sim seems almost relived too lol, I guess he was more nervous than he let on. Oh well that gives us more time to train for basketball season I guess.

Just cheer him on and let him know your proud of him , he’s your boy just encourage him to be the best version of him self , be there to celebrate or be there with cake a milkshake to make him feel better on the bad days, just be his dad and enjoy the time with him bro won’t be long before he’s grown and doing his own thing with his own kids

Both of my sons played. My 2nd oldest is playing now. I concentrate on making sure he lifts, cardio, all with perfect form. I didn’t have that as a kid. Also every morning I give them a motivation speech. They need to have a reason to keep going when times get hard. When you’re in pain. When you don’t wanna get up early and practice. If you’re looking how to motivate him. Start listening to motivational podcast. Pour into yourself then pour into them. And keep studying macros, work out techniques. And make sure he runs up and down stadium steps. There’s a reason the nfl and nba runs this drill. The amount of stamina it builds is insane.

If your son isn’t built for that sport why try and push him into something he can never be?

That’s one extreme, the other is I want my son to excel at everything with the biggest advantage, a roommate of mine was into boxing at a young age and he was going somewhere. His uncle / coach injected him with testosterone at the age of 15 and shut down his system real quick.

I worked in a catholic youth organization right out of high school and it sickened me back then to see parents pushing their nerd ass kids to be the best at tree hockey..

Your kid isn’t gonna compete against any of the inner city schools out here in Long Island, I do think it builds character and breaks confidence at the same time.

I choose bodybuilding beacuse I ENJOY IT, me vs the weights me vs everything I have ultimate control, I’m at fault for everything that goes wrong, no bitchass coach yellling at me.

Put him in rugby where the other white kids belong, those lads are the toughest bunch right up there with hockey players. Kids who continually get hit in football contract CTE, it’s a proven fact .

“If you want him to be the best just shoot him with test!”

Oh I’m not making him. If I was gunna make him do something it would be baseball lol. I told him he was gunna pick two things this year because last year he did basketball for like 9 weeks and sat on his ass the rest of the year. And he’s horribly out of shape now and getting a little pudgy lol. And I think your right it build character but destroys confidence and that’s just what happened to me, I had low confidence but the hardest work ethic.

A wise supervisor of mine once said, “son, with a strong back and a weak mind you’ll do just fine”.. that’s the story of my life Ross… when it comes down to the nitty gritty I fucking bang bro , unfortunately that shit gets me hemmed up, I have to re-channel my inner child into the man for the present day.

It all starts with work ethic..

This makes me think of my sister, she was always the better looking one, her confidence and personality disorders got the best of her, weight skyrocketing into obesity and she would shrug it off like it was t a big deal, all this fat acceptance crap, totally liberal we were opposites..

Anyway long story short nobody in the family would say anything to her face because they were afraid that she couldn’t handle the truth.. Truth is by enabling and not saying anything I’m co-signing your inevitable death.

I got her some ECA stacks boosted confidence with social media and she lost 60 pounds! Went back to the abusive boyfriend who got her strung out on Xanax, eventually fentanyl and then last May death. There’s many of things I could have done to be a better brother but the one thing I hold above me above anyone else in my family is I say what comes to mind, no lies just straight truth

You say your sons getting pudgy and deep down this is gotta be somewhat acceptable, how do you nudge him into the weight room and not kill his inner child at the same time, this you’ll find when he gets destroyed on a two a day.he’ll crack , when he does I hope you’re the first one to show him love. Making bodybuilding look appealing isn’t hard to a child, GNC was my Mecca in 9th grade, the flashy labels, the results printed on the labels! Ronnie Coleman BSN products, LIGHTWEIGHT AINT NOTHING BUT A PEANUT! Instant idol lol, I knew right then and there that man was going to lengths not many will go, for a look and for a feeling, we are all chasing those mind numbing orgasmic pumps.

I’d bet if your son felt the dopamine rush from a bicep curl , not the phone screen… My nephew is 18, he loves watching TikTok influencers bodybuilding , strong man, yet the kids 155 pounds soaking wet and eats like a bird 1200 calories tops, the main thing is he wants it. Does your son want IT? If he doesn’t then maybe the books are a better alternative .

All very wise words my man. And I’m sorry to hear about your sister, addiction is very tough rough. It’s hard enough as a man, I can’t imagine being in that world as a women always having to deal with scumbag boyfriends. You having her best interest at heart is what matters.

With my son he’s not entirely interested in the gym too much, he does ask to go with me but I think it’s only to try and hangout with me, because he doesn’t really do shit when we go there lol. But it’s hard cause he don’t go to a commercial gym, too young. So he’ll come with me sometimes to my apartment complex gym, just weights and treadmills. But he is probably more of a nerd at heart truthfully. He’s a genius, super smart. But lower confidence and is more interested in whatever other people like. He hears kids at school talk about Steph curry and Travis Kelce and stuff like that so he tries to be interested in sports that way. One day he may be into bodybuilding. I don’t push him towards it at all, at least not yet because I know kids can hate whatever is pushed on them most and I made that mistake with baseball. I wanted both my boys to play baseball so bad and they both hate it now, I think I pushed too hard so now I fell back and let them choose but I make them choose atleast one sport to stay active. And I shouldn’t say pudgy but you can’t see his ribs like I could when I was his age lol. If he was an adult I’d probably say like 20% bf .

And for me I choose bodybuilding because I wasn’t skilled or talented at anything but I’m a hard worker and will never quit so it kinda fits perfectly for people like that. It’s not a skill, it’s literally just how hard you can push yourself, and that’s what I can do. He really really wants to be a basketball player so we’ll train like hell now and hopefully we can build his confidence along the way
