It's scary getting older...

ad

I remember when I was in my 20s, I felt on top of the world and could lift it too! And I could shag anyone, anytime as well.

Now in my mid 30s my back, knees, joints, energy etc feel like Doritos chips without the aromatic and tasty flavor. Sex drive is perpetually in first gear...and sometimes neutral!

The more automated the world, the stressful it becomes especially with the burdens of work and family it seems. I'm sure there is correlation between technology reliance and low test in men.

Does anyone feel the same?

Well, since you are banned you probably wont read this. Anyway - 30's? Getting older? I'm into my 60's - been weight training since I was 27 (before that I was a half-marathon runner - f*cked up my knees so took up weights). Some days I need my wife to help me out of bed because of back pain, I struggle walking up 3 flights of stairs, I can't sleep on my right side because of shoulder pain...the list of injuries is endless - but I still train 5 days a week, watch my diet and keep plugging away. Why? because weight training isn't a hobby or an interest, it is a long-term lifestyle decision that requires dedication and commitment in the face of physical adversity. I train around my injuries, pop NSAIDs for the pain, moan a little to my loving wife who then gives me a massage - and then do it all again tomorrow....and the next day...and will continue to do so until the time comes that I can't physically do it anymore. For me - gym is a priority, and I have never let work, family and other issues cut into my gym time. It's my necessary 'de-stress' time. I never take a cell phone into the gym..Keep at it.

Old? You're in your prime. You're not even old enough to say, "Remember when..."

Tech takes away muscle mass.
Lower muscle mass equates to lower T levels
Higher stress and low amounts of sleep equates to lower T levels

There's not more stress, stress has always been there. More so in the past I would think.
The "get-a-trophy-for-showing-up" snowflakes just can't handle normal day to day challenges.

Well there YOUNG man, I can see your point however, I am nearly 53 and still kick it hard although not like when I was in my 20 and 30's.. I had to make some adjustments due to injuries and realizing that weight isn't all that for me anymore. I make some of these 20 and 30 yr olds look like cotton candy in the gym as they have NO clue what they are doing. I stick to my motto that is SMART lifting is the key to longevity and go from there... Good luck to you tho and hope it gets better...

lol...................... youre fucked then.

Unless i am genetically uber-gifted (which i am not i can attest)..... i still enjoy a very physical job every day and can still train like a possessed MoFo ...... if i moan the Wife simply calls me a Fkn wimp and tells me to man the FK up.

Getting older aint for wimps.

I hope I fare as well. The trades can be unforgiving at times. It's hard to incorporate proper lifting into sime aspects of them. I'm beginning to notice joints that I never knew I had before.
I remember a lot of the older guys yelling at me , telling me one day I'd regret some of the physical abuse. I was young and dumb and still invincible. I thought they were crazy. My invincibility wore off a few years ago. I still produce like most can't, but I do it more health conscientiously now.
My roofer is 66. Sometimes I look at him and wonder how the hell he's still doing it. Truthfully he's the only guy I'll let touch one, other than myself. And I have no love for that stuff anymore.
There's a lot today be said for the Warriors still out there busting it every day, when I see guys my age so broken down they can't function anymore.
My only point is I hope I'm still grinding it when I'm your age calling all the younger guys pussies. Unfortunately the up and coming generations are setting the bar low.
You have my respect on many levels.

another full 7 days in this week bro........... i dont like letting people down thats my problem lol.

another reason i dont moan was made crystal clear again this week,,,,,,,,,,,, i had a sparky (electrician) contracted in to one of my house renos on wednesday.... he did 3 full days grafting like a titan..... when chatting over a brew at one of the very few breaks we take the guy tells me he is 71yrs old........... im like GTFO.................. sound guy born in Glasgow..... a real grafting machine even yet.

This is the shit that puts things in real perspective when we hear younger guys whinging about being tired etc..................... another guy who is a plasterer (68) is still grafting daily and reckons the day he stops will be the day he dies!....... this is the norm for this breed of grafting machines.

I just dont feel right if i dont work hard bro.............

You know my favorite days are the days when I stay right on the job site with the guys and lead the attack. Especially if my phone stays quiet too, then I can just work and enjoy not thinking about one hundred and ten other things calling for me.

if my phone stays quiet

Those days have been long gone for a while for me boss. Someone always wants/needs something.

I'm still grinding it

So was I,............ 2 weeks ago, 20 feet of weld prep on each panel. Biggest grinder the shop had was a 7 incher, and none of the young bucks wanted any part of it. Me, I was hoping they still had a 9 incher. Bigger can be better.

That's the problem with these young guys. I'm stuck with a 7, and wish I had a 9". They don't know how to handle the 4" Lol.
My generation truly has been the downfall, and it's getting worse. I don't know how many guys I grew up with that have walked off our sites with tears in their eyes.
The best and most honest way I can sum the world up today is that my step daughter just had to change her boyfriends tire. She's in pharmacy school and he's taking philosophy and religion and working at Taco Bell.

Yep, I'm 40 and feeling it, probably really kicked in my mid 30s. Just had r/c surgery and can only train legs, cardio, and unoperated side. Of course, now my arthritic knee is bothering me from an acl surgery 20+ years ago. I definitely feel better on test, but I'm all natty currently so got to deal with the aches and pains. Not quite ready for trt yet.

yep, shit went downhill at 30...although I look my best, I feel the worst!

readyman's picture

I heard that. At 30 I got diagnosed with Crohn disease. At 34 I had a severe cardiac event and was diagnosed with heart disease and hypertension. I look like what gets puss all day and all night but I feel like I just got ran over.

Wait till you hit your mid-forties. lol. Although I must say I do look better now than when I was in my twenties. People say I only look like thirty something so that is a good thing too I guess.
