Your thoughts on burning the US Flag?
ad
Should it be covered by the 1st amendment as freedom of expression and speech?
Should people be prosecuted for burning it?
If it's alright to burn the American flag, then is it alright to burn the LGBT flag because I don't agree with their lifestyle choice?
What if I'm an atheist and I burn a flag with Christian symbols on it? Is that a hate crime or freedom of expression?
What if I burn the Saudi Arabian flag which has Koranic verses on it because I can't stand their intolerance towards women, gays, and people of other faiths? Is that a hate crime? Am I Islamophobic? Or is it a freedom of expression??
Your thoughts?

Political... in sighting post.
Should be removed......... we used to be a fkn steroid advice site.
My law states............... fuck governments or laws or any other BS...................... fuck with me or my family and you will die..................... period.
Who the fuck wants to read or even think about this shit on a fkn steroid site................ get real bro and quit with the shit..................... talk training or roids or simply fuck off.
No.............. even better ... you stay........................................................... i,ll fuck off because there is no place here now for people like me any longer.
We haven't allowed any all year but I figured this one kind of danced the edge. But it has ran its course
A few more thoughts...
As the law stands right now.... You can burn your flag and I can burn mine, so long as public safety is not impaired by the fires. But you cannot burn my flag against my will, nor can you burn a flag owned by the government.
That law has to be absolutely protected. Freedom of speech protects every one of us from a tyrannical government.
The first amendment, as it stands does not protect against fighting words.
Hence, of someone stands in front of a Vet, lights a flag on fire and says F- America....In my opinion that absolutely qualifies as a fighting word and is no longer protected.
Right?
At any rate, we are blessed to live in a place that we can have this argument. I think all of us who live here don't fully appreciate that freedom. Myself included.
Place yourself in some 3rd world shitbox country that doesn't grant them that right and it won't take long for you to realize why the founding fathers addressed this in our first ammendment.
The USA is founded on the principles of freedom; which includes expression, thought, speech, religion, etc. Whether one disagrees or supports such behavior, the foundational truth is the fact that one has the right to condone it and another has the right to condemn it.
I'm thinking a line of wearable, highly flammable flag jackets with zippers that stick at the first sign of fire would be appropriate.
If your willing to die for your right to burn the flag in protest........
As much as I detest the act of someone burning our flag we cannot give an inch of ground on the first amendment and restrict anyones freedom to do so. Our rights as Americans are far more important than symbols.
bigmurphI agree protection of the first amendment is huge but freedom of speech really isn't burning a American flag thats not saying anything except that in my opinion you're commiting treason going against your country. I believe in Going against govt and govt officials for there views vs your views. I just believe burning the symbol of our country and its constitution should be completely a arrestable offense.
I do agree protection of all our rights is huge because they took away almost all our rights to privacy and after that I really woke up to how much we need to watch what is really going on before I or we supported the Patriot act. Then found out in the end it was the spy on American citizens act.
Like Ed said above, someone burning their own flag is a demonstration of free speech. That is what our own supreme court ruled. Burn someone else's and you committed a crime.
bigmurphYou are right its hard to accept for me that its ok to burn an American flag in America
Unfortunately it's protected by the 1st amendment. I believe if you burn the flag it is a stance against America. These people need to be rounded up and shipped backed to their place of origin. If they are born in America then they should immediately be thrown in jail. Now with this being said, why is it ok for individuals to openly burn the flag but not ok to pray in school anymore or say the pledge of allegiance before class? Isn't this still protected under the 1st amendment? So why is it ok to violate our first amendment by not allowing our children to worship the lord but allows the very same people who are ruining this great country to be so disrespectful? It seems like Americans have forgotten 911 and became spineless to appease a select few. This is the issue with America when the government allows the media to run wild and brainwash the community. God bless America and the brave men and women who have protected it.
Well if you are praying to flying spaghetti monsters you are praying to something imaginary. Do you see the difference and why our forefathers limited it?
AnonWhat is your thoughts Rugal16, you didn't exactly take a stance yourself.
Wish someone would burn a flag in front of me, so I can put it out with their face.
Rugal16I would never desecrate the flag of my country whom countless men and women fought and died for. I don't believe it serves any point either as a form of protest.
If you don't agree with something that the government does, then you should take some proactive action like calling or writing to your congressman or having a peaceful and organized protest.
bigmurph+1 thats how it should be handled in a proper way not the way I see alot handle it on tv. If they tried to do that in other countries the police or army would just open fire on them and scoop up dead bodies.
There is definitely a right way to do it and im in full support for the right way and the right way doesn't include burning the American flag
If I catch anyone burning a US flag I will take the burning flag and rub your fucking face in it. I don't care if I incurred burns myself.
Agreed. Idc abiut the politics behind it, I quit trying to understand it bc it's all hippie dippie soft pc BS. I see you burn my flag then I'm probably going to jail bc I'm gong to light your ass on fire right next to it then smile and feel good about it on my way to jail!
As a US Marine vet here I think it's completely bullshit and should not be allowed. I've seen and done too much of this country to think disrespecting us on our own soil will ever be OK. I myself and I'm sure plenty of other members here have lost many of friends and family to protect that flag. I do not think it's a game and I take it very seriously. I would kill or die to protect this country.
Unfortunately the people that we've had running this country have been extremely weak and allowed such things to take place. Tell me one other country that an American could walk on and start burning their flag and get away with it? Would anyone go to Mexico and try to burn their flag and step on it? No of course not you will get tortured raped and murdered in the street. Try going to Russia, Korea, China, or almost anywhere else in the world and try burning their flag and seeing what happens.... they wouldn't deal with that shit and neither should we. If you have a problem with our country feel free to go back to your own and talk about it there. Because if our country is so bad why come here?
bigmurph+1 damn right brother
+1. Thank you PPG
You said it yourself, and that is why we are the beacon of freedom on this planet. Do not offer up any of our freedoms, even the ones we detest.
X2
I'm ok with people burning the American flag as long as they wrap themselves up in it first.
Burning an American flag is an absolutely classless act.
If you live in this country and enjoy the freedoms that are only found here and still burn that flag you are a piece of shit.
If you are unhappy with the conditions, get involved in your community and do something about it.
Burning the flag is a lazy bitch ass way to get attention and if in my company a quick way to get your ass kicked.
It's disrespectful to those who shed their blood for it and in my opinion shows the true character of the bitch ass punk who does it.
That's why I only burn polish flags!
As a vet that comes from a long line of family that served it's the single most disrespectful thing that you can do in my opinion and to condone it is just as bad.
In my opinion those that burn the flags should be tried for treason, stripped of their citizenship, exiled and branded on the way out so that whatever country decides to take their sorry asses knows what a piece of shit they are.
As far as destruction of other flags I don't agree with that either. It's still disrespectful.
Much respect to you and what you just said .... That speaks volumes of your character no bullshit. Fuck em that stops soon
This might be a good one for the political no holds barred group.
That being said, fuck anybody that burns the flag. But fuck anybody that tries to silence the voice of anyone else. I disagree with half the world every day. One of the greatest freedoms we have is that of free speech. If we begin to instill limits on that, we're less free than we already pretend we are.
We want to sit back and call out all the sensitive pussies while we get inflamed by a man taking a knee during the anthem. At the end of the day, I don't care how one chooses to express their freedoms as long as it offers no threat to my family.
If we begin to think that our own views need legal repercussions and enforcement then we are sacrifing freedom of speech for ourselves as well.
That being said, thanks to those that served for the rights of those to burn the flag, the rights of those that cherish it, and for giving us true freedom of speech.
Whether I agree with ones opinion or not, freedom of speech is exactly that. Free.
I served for your right to exercise the first amendment. That said, the act is insensitive and spits in the face of all those who strive to make this country live up to its full potential and the ideals. It is equally insensitive if you burn another's flag.
Yes, it would be out of intolerance that you do such things. As the flag itself means nothing, what it represents to you or others is what you're burning.
I think if you burned anything in public, you are creating a public hazard. I'd have you jailed for that.
I hope you enjoy your first amendment as much as I enjoy the second amendment... see you at the next flag burning.
bigmurphI hope you enjoy your first amendment as much as I enjoy the second amendment... see you at the next flag burning.
Couldn't be said better +1
Absolutely
1st off never worry about terms like racist, bigot, phobic, etc that's political correctness and it has lost ALL meaning and is just used for political gain
2nd burning the flag then trying to hide behind the constitution it represents is contradictory once you burn that flag you aren't ENTITLED to the rights it represents
3rd If you burn the flag it will soon be an automatic loss of citizenship
Political correctness =cultural Marxism
Socialism has NO place in American politics or way of life
Period these things aren't up for discussion
This
bigmurphDon't burn an American flag around me or I will
Use your imagination
Yes it should definitely be a treasonous offense
hemlockOGId smack the fuck out of you.
You shoukd respect the country youre from and improve it if you think its wrong, dont join the masses of crying babies who do nothing.
And fuck equality. How about leave if you dont like it. Our country, our rules, if your a guest here, you can and will be kicked out any time you get disrespectful. If you are not from here you get no rights to protest.
Right on bro. +1
Replacing one form of tyranny with another is never a good idea. A constitutional amendment to ban the 10 a-holes who will burn the U.S. flag for their pro-communist protests is a waste of time. Let them throw their temper tantrums, let them burn the flag--and let freedom ring, even for a-hole communists. I won't compromise liberty to attack my enemies. They are doing a pretty good job on their own making themselves look like a-holes.
I'm not a citizen of a country with your wonderful bill of rights. I think freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, and I think it's good that the law differentiates between what is freedom of speech and what is a threat. That being said; if the flag burners are doing this under the guise of "freedom of speech" I do not believe this applies, as this is not speech which comes of out the mouth, this is a physical and possibly dangerous attack on a federal symbol. It's not speech. They can say "Fuck America", that's speech. However that might just get them a black eye.
Dont like seeing it, but it is a part of freedom. We should focus more on improving the country overall, so people dont want to burn the flag.
Bwahaha improving the country these are the same people who praised Fidel Castro... we live in the greatest country in the world
I suppose we should improve the country so Somali born Muslims won't want to stab Americans to
LOL. To each their own. Not saying the country isn't "great", but obviously things can improve. Murder, poverty, racism, riots, etc......these things exist everywhere, but if we want to call ourselves "great" we should be able to reduce these things. The only thing that maintains our greatness is our economy, the only thing that drives our economy is our citizens spending money. if we as the "people" continue to blindly follow our race, political party, sexual orientation, tax bracket, favorite news station, or any of the other labels given to pit us against each other we will continue to lose. Those players at the top with all the money, will continue to laugh at us as they jockey for position.
Burning the flag is just another polarizing issue to garner support or opposition for "insert group here". If the majority can never agree on anything, they will never realize they've been duped.
Just opinions here, I mean no disrespect to folks that believe otherwise. We can all agree that we like building muscle
unreal89Very well put enough said.. +
He said it well enough America's not great and burning a flag is "polarizing" very well said
Not exactly, but I respect your position.
You should be brought to the city square where you're publicly executed in front of everyone.
bigmurphI definitely believe a strong stance and penalty should be taken i don't know if death is the way to go unless they can link them to being a true enemy of the state.
But they should be arrested and face a type of treason charge
Amen
