Fancy gym wear makes you lift more
ad
Well folks I've noticed a trend lately that all the latest gym wear to the under armor to high end shirts to fancy gloves and shoes make you lift more than the guy with a ragged tshit on shoes that look worn and shorts that are faded ... But wait you say it's true I see the same bunch of guys with there fancy clothes on at the gym holding down a whole rack of dumbells talking instead of lifting and the guy that has the worn clothes on is busting his ass just my observation .. Let's here some shit on this what is your All opinions lol

You Fancy!?! In gym clothes! LOL I AM! Hell my gym attire makes up 75% of my wardrobe... The other 25% is back up gym clothes!
You look sexy in them tho
You know me to well!
Hitman187you forgot to mention them big, fancy headphones that come in a bunch of different gaudy colors, beats by dre i believe. even seems like some people have several pairs to color coordinate them along with their wardrobe.... simple pair of basketball shorts with a beater/ tank and im good to go.
I wear ear buds, I cannot figure out how they get them big headphones to stay on their heads.
I think they use some type of paste or glue.
Fancy gym wear means shit lol, I go in a dirty ass T and shorts and out lift 99.9 Percent of people at my gym. But hey if it makes you feel better and gets ya in the gym to work out, fuck it. It's all about trying to better ones self, so if being fancy helps you go and get stronger or loose weight I won't hate, just kinda laugh to myself:)
It's a weird science, you can't plow a field without a john Deere hat, you can't change oil on the car without a set of mechanix gloves, you definitely can't be a bad ass without an affliction or a tap out shirt, and under armor makes you a gym rat. Regardless of body fat.
Buying shit to play the part is easy. A lot of people wearing all the gear are looking for confirmation from everyone else. I know a few guys that would be a lot bigger if they got out of the mirror and off Facebook tagging their workouts and actually just lifted some.
I just wear whatever t shirt still fits and a pair of basketball shorts. I'm there to work out not try to get a date. But that's just me in general I buy the $40 shoes at academy and the $7 T-shirt from Walmart.
Well it works for me, I have an assortment of fancy gym clothes. I might have a problem actually they out number my street clothes...
I'm old school and cheap I just wear old concert or work t shirts full of holes and sleeves cut off and u buy the cheap cotton bcg shorts from academy ($5 a pair) I do have a couple moisture wicking shirts and shorts but that's its. Everything is either gray, black or dark royal blue and I did buy some lifting shoes Adidas power pro 2.0 which I'm glad I did. Just can't get into the neon colors and fancy outfits...lol
I don't get these young dudes wearing neon pink and shit, back in the day...
We had names for those guys back in the day
Do elaborate...
StevebAce Venturas
Come get a sesh in at my gym...lol....it's old school, all iron plate loaded machines kinda like a mini metroflex (to an extent) but the last year or so there's been an influx of this younger crowd and man it blinds you to look at them but at least they're doing something productive. I asked this one cat if likes to look like a peacock in heat. .lol....all in fun
mikeyg4321I just wear my st6 shirt.....everyday
I don't go crazy but I do have a pair of better bodies mesh pants that I wear to the gym and a couple better bodies and Gasp stringers that I wear, but I only buy them on sale and I do like the way they look and fit since they are made for us.
My garage attire is a wifebeater and black Nike shorts that need to be washed a year ago...I Lysol them when I hang em on the bench though...my lady is impressed with the grossness...I think a sweatband might increase my lifts...
I like performance workout gear (sweat wicking), because my shirt and shorts don't get soaked, like cotton does. Makes working out more comfortable. Not a big fan of bright colors and matching your shoes and shirts, but to each their own I suppose. I mainly wear black and dark grey.
Same here, black , white or grey
Shorts are always Jordan or Nike. Only ones that fit my thighs comfortably. Other brands are too short/tight and ride way up when I squat. Recently was gifted all new, all polyester workout shirts because wifey threw my old ones out. She said it was gross how I would ring my shirt out after cardio. These don't show sweat. Not gonna lie, I was pissed, but I LOVE the fact that my shirts are not heavy and soaked when I finish working out. I will never admit this to her! She did buy 5 different colors of the same shirt because "I need to match better." I just continue to use what's clean and on top in the drawer. Shoes, I have a pair of all black and all white that I rotate depending on the workout. One has a slightly higher heal that make squatting way more comfortable. The other is a flat heal that I like to use for deads, standing presses, and calf raises. Maybe its the new shirts that have made my lifts go up...maybe the Sust. LMFAO
I wear big Johnson t shirts and Girbaud shorts. I gots to look good when I'm getting you beast on.
So you're saying the fact that I wear clothes that look like they were hand-me-downs from a homeless are the reason I can still only bench 50kgs for 2 reps?
Best get myself out shopping. Seriously though I wear any old crap to the gym, shirts with paint on them, trousers with tears / holes in them. My gym is an old school "dungeon type".
Nope I'm saying that's the reason u can bench more
I'm blaming being weak on my clothing ;)
I own more sneakers than anyone I know. My gym attire is always matching. I get shit about it from some of my boys. But I'm a PT, so it's kinda my uniform for work. Plus, I don't club or party, so a 10pm training session is about as close as I get to "going out." Might as well look good.
Sweats or cargo shorts, whatever t-shirt I grab, and a pair of cheap ass trainers from Payless. That's how I roll. I look like a broke ass dad. :::::shrugs:::::
I finally broke down and bought a new pair of under armour shoes. Didn't help with adding any poundage to my squat or bench so I am not real impressed with them. They match a tank top I have though so not all is lost I guess.
My prefered attire... Affliction Board shorts, Y-back tank, and black boots. Makes me feel barbaric lol
Lol never wore boots in there . But I did pop my Nike air maxes one day doing over head presses lol blew the side right out of it
I blew my nike air max out also
I was deadlifting with my brother in law and he blew his nikes out. The weight shifted and he cracked 3 vertebrae. Barefoot all the way for me now. That hurt watching it.
I wear sandals dead lifting they are merrels that are ten days older than dirt.. I watch people do shit all the time that looks like it hurts ..
The less give the better. I do my deads at home in I guess what they call a dining room? It's about priorities. Sit at the breakfast bar, lift in the dining room, and the kitchen is right in the middle where it belongs. I use the gym for most exercises but I'll do my barefoot stuff here, because I hate feet. I don't want to see most people's and don't want mine looked at. Lol
lmao... thats why I wear the sandals.. I don't know why I get strange looks though .. jesus at least my form is better than 90% of those idiots while wearing my sandals. I watched some dude the other day and wanted to tell him he could lift so much more if he'd lift it properly ... my back hurt watching him ;-/
My gym we all pretty cool since it's a small town and in the sticks, but ocassionally will get an ignoramus or 2 in there.
Like yesterday this kid comes in with striped shirt and shorts looks like beetle juice or a referee lol. I was hitting legs and soon as I seen him it just suddenly pulled my eyes toward him, you just couldn't help it.
He goes over in the corner and grabs a jump rope and warms up and is acting all hyper, I was like damn that's some pre workout drink my brother has. Then he started doing burpees and a back flip I was lmao he did about 5 of those and left, i guess he pulled something or there wasn't enough chicks impressed with his moves lol.
mikeyg4321Pretty sure theyre all trying to be like shredz ppl and similar. Look at those guys and yea theyre big with a lot of colors and shit on. Dudes at my gym starting to wear tights instead of shorts. Like nobody wants to see your shit man
Ha, you think these guys are bad, typically this is the only reason girls go to the gym..to show off their new shopping spree, spend an hour taking selfies (the leg press seems to be a particular favorite, much to my annoyance) and walk the treadmill with that stupid pineapple on their head..oh, and on Wednesdays we wear pink
gag me
What's up with the mis matched socks ???? One blue one red crap
you buy them that way ;-)
Lol, I train in shirts Ive been training in for years...some since college. The ones with permafunk..doesnt matter how much their washed, the first hint of sweat brings on the funk. Still waiting for someone to tell me how much I stink.
TronI have thought about this a lot lately..these guys are coming in the gym. Hair styled perfect, colors all matching and corresponding from shoes to shirt..expensive brand new looking clothes..hats..the whole nine yards. I go to the gym on my lunch break. I work outside and am still wearing the same tank i had on at work. I change to shorts and put clean shoes on but thats it. Dirt on my face and all. I put my heaphones in and talk to no one. Not there for friends. But i guess those fancy clothes dont really help that much because those guys stay the same size and can't generally max what i warm up with. I like the grungy look.
Haha, man I'm still tryin to figure out where the hell they get all these random colored shoes that match the outfit!
TronThat's what makes me laugh at them..they try real hard to look like that lol.
Theres this guy who I find is good for a laugh. You KNOW he put thought in what he's wearing to the gym. I'm the guy with a sleeveless t and jeans killin it 30 second break 1-2 workout each time.
Clearly you don't really lift if your shoes don't match your shorts and shirt!
Under Armour shirt= 300+ flat bench max
Under Armour shirt N shoes= Straight up powerlifter!!! Lmao
Dudes with gloves= dude curling 15lbs focusing on their FACE in the mirrors lol
RustyhookerFirst gym I joined back in 89. The competitors wore old oversized baggy clothes. Cut up sweats/shirts. The crossfitters always looked like a Shiney new dime. Typically weighed as much too. Lol.
No things changed. Just bit different style. My sweats are 10 years old. Worn but comfortable. Old tshirt. Old shoes.
How a about those undies Rusty, just how old and rusty are they lmao. Now i know how you came up with your handle
