Covid-19

ad

These boards are great, not only for gear advice but also for some abstract questions in this off topic area. East coast USA here, mid Atlantic area, and my state is now beginning the explosion phase of this mess. Not completely shut down, but things are getting pretty weird. Just curious about what everyone's seeing? Both in my country and luckily my brother's across the pond that can add as you guys are ahead of us as far as the curve goes. Hope everyone is well and sorted, best wishes.

Does anybody have any idea when stuff is going to reopen? I can not find anything on it?

Keep an eye on China, Italy and Spain's timelines.
China 1st recorded death Jan 11, 'reopens' approx 3 months later.

China moved pretty quickly, but Italy and Spain didn't. UK and USA were slightly complacent at first so Italy might be one to watch.

USA which recorded a first death on March 1, is so big, it may end up making sense to unlock areas that acted faster than New York say... but it's not likely to be any time soon...

That's what we have done here in Ireland. We call it cocoon'ing.

I haven't seen my folks in 2 weeks now other than to leave shopping at their front door.

The median age for deaths in this country is 81, so, it makes sense for sure. But we all need to isolate too, as we do t want a world of carriers and the oldies locked up until an eventual death

What does 'reopen' mean? Australia has similar 'lock down' criteria to many countries, they will only lessen those criteria if the 'curve' of infections starts to level off or flatten. Even when that happens, if they are sensible, they will keep all borders - State and International, closed. The vast majority of Covid cases in Australia are imported by residents/citizens/tourists returning to the country (90%) - and then not obeying the 14 day quarantine rules. About a vaccine, well that's a BS comment - Australia is a leader in virus research and they say a vaccine is AT LEAST a year off...best case scenario.

Stores in my area sell out food so fast we have empty shelves. There isn’t a shortage of food it’s just that everybody is panicking. Rush hour traffic is down to me seeing 6 cars on the highway. I work in a food packaging facility so my hours are at 70 or so a week to keep up with demand at the grocery stores. Besides that I don’t see much difference besides all the businesses are closed. The gym being closed is killing me.
