+ 6 Worth Baring in mind when getting Bloodwork done .....

ad

I had my Bloods done about 1 month ago and I noticed my eGFR was slightly lower than normal which seemed strange considering I don't run anything toxic anymore - then I remembered that I had been on Creatine HCL for 4 solid months and stopped it only about 4 days before the Blood was drawn. Just out of curiosity as I've been Googling quite a few things for the past 3 hours including how different Vitamins affect muscle recovery (& looking up the average size of a Milkshakes penis) I decided to see how long Creatine stays in the body after stopping it - I was astonished to see it stays in you for a further 4 to 6 weeks!!!!

I know a lot of members know this, but to the new guys when you supplement with Creatine Monohydrate or HCL, when the body uses it for ATP production its by product becomes Creatinine which is then excreted by the kidneys. Now this matters because in your Bloodwork there is an equation that includes the Creatinine level currently in your blood to see how well your Kidneys are filtering toxins out of your blood - the higher the Creatinine level the WORSE your filtration level is so as such it can give a false positive on how well your kidneys are working.

So as you can imagine, if you are using creatine or have recently stopped using it and then get bloods done it will show a decrease in kidney function when really this is not the case. Just something to bare in mind thats all - it can take 4 to 6 weeks to get a true reading when using eGFR calculations as a measure of kidney health Smile

From Google:

After you stop taking creatine, it stays in your muscles for about 4 to 6 weeks before levels return to normal, with the most significant drop in the first week as water weight is lost, but performance benefits fade gradually, not instantly. The body continuously converts about 1-2% of stored creatine into creatinine daily, which is then excreted, meaning muscle saturation slowly declines over time.

Bloodstream vs. Muscles

Bloodstream: Creatine peaks in the blood within hours but is cleared quickly, with a half-life of around 3 hours; most is gone from the blood within 24 hours.

Muscles: The key is muscle saturation; once filled (after a few weeks of use), it takes weeks to empty as the body uses and excretes it.

Factors Influencing Duration

Muscle Mass: More muscle means more storage capacity, potentially keeping levels elevated longer.

Dosage & Duration: Higher doses (loading phase) saturate muscles faster but also take longer to fully deplete.

Kidney Function: Healthier kidneys might process creatine slightly faster.

What to Expect When Stopping

First Week: Noticeable water weight loss (1-7 lbs) as muscles release retained fluid.

Gradual Decline: Performance benefits (strength, power) decrease slowly over weeks as muscle stores deplete, not overnight.

Also note that taking vitamins that high biotin can also skew results. It can cause high or low results for tests like troponin (heart attack marker) and thyroid hormones (TSH, T3, T4).

Yes Niacin B3 is a funny one, I actually used to supplement with it all the time to help my Liver but then I began reading horror stories about it actually being BAD for the liver for some people, depending on your individual genetics so I stopped using it and threw the pack out. It seems good in minimal doses but its really something you need to measure out right when using it. I never knew it can cause all of those side effects too!

Niacin is good for your cholesterol too. It was one of the first Rx cholesterol meds but fell out of favor after statins got popular. It’s one of the few that raises HDL. But the flush is brutal, my body never gets used to that side effect.

I never use to get that actually, always liked using the stuff but given the upper limit is supposedly 36mg or so per day and I must of been using about 1 gram I think its clear to see I was overdoing it LMAO

I tell ya what I was reading today though mate, all about how damn good Vitamin D and Magnesium are for building muscle & recovery times, especially Vit D. Did you know its responsible for the creation of fast twitch muscle fibres and power etc? I usually take 25 micrograms of the stuff but now think it should be 100 per day. Honestly, loads of interesting literature on how important it is for recovery along with Magnesium - nearly did a forum post on it lol

Also another interesting fact is your individual DNA is responsible for up to 70% of how quickly your muscle recovers after training. Loads of different Coding for the make up of tendons, fast twitch fibres, satellite cell activation. You can see why all these little things affect how people like John Haack and other anomalies can be so much stronger and more powerful that other people weighing the same bodyweight. What makes the champions.

When I’m on creatine I use cystatin C and uACR to assess true kidney function, creatinine/eGFR alone can be misleading in lifters.

Nice write up. This was an eye opener for me a while back. I ran a CMP and my eGFR came back at a 69. This had me spooked and I removed creatine to see if my eGFR would rebound. I ran another CMP later that year and my eGFR was at 91. I know I have to take in consideration the uACR and cystatin C markers now but back then I was clueless.

Wow that's quite a difference then!!! I was thinking maybe 10 points but 22 points is quite something. For sure cystatin C is the better option, but over here it can cost between £40 to 100 pounds to get just that test alone done. I really was shocked the body only removes 2% of creatinine stores per day!

Why didn't you tell us whats the average size of a milkshakes penis is?

They said on an Extremely Good day it can register at 3mm's flacid - he seems shy today though so we probably won't get a confirmation on that.
