Torn Hammy need input/advise
ad
So wasnt sure what section to stick this in so here we go
I tore my hammy probably about a month ago. I have been doing some light weight hammy exercises and cardio followed up by stretching. I have noticed everytime I do stretches is when I really notice the pain. I am no expert on this and I am sure some of you know more about this than I, so I come to you for guidance lol. I am assuming that light hammy exercise is good to get some new fresh blood flowing in there. Just unsure if the stretching is good if it is creating the pain.
Thanks guys

Well dude you DID NOT tear (rupture)your hamstring. Most ruptures (While weight training)occur on smaller muscles such as Biceps, Triceps and in some cases the Pecs. I have never heard of larger belly muscles rupturing such as Quads, Hams or Back while weight training. Most people who do not know Anatomy throw around the word "Tear" You most likely Hyper-extended the hamstring. Lay off it for awhile and when you do once again resume ham movements go light.
cdaddy7Interesting .....bc I do know anatomy and in the med field and we do use the term "tear"...what he is describing is actual torn tissue and that actual capillaries and blood vessels were ruptured and bled...the blood pooled in the area and is now migrating downward to gravity as a big bruise until the body reabsorbs...
here's a link to help you out in understanding...

it wasnt while weight training. and it has been purple for about 3 weeks now and leaked down into the top of my calf (if that makes sense). whether it is a pulled or torn hammy, it is fucked up none the less lol. i have a picture of it in my profile.
cdaddy7Tears are a bitch but broc is right...time is the issue...do not push urself past what ur body is telling u no to...U are lucky but remember that muscle is week...I tore my lat in a wake boarding accident when my arm got tangled in the rope...It was a whole year before I could even do a pull up...I traind around that injury bc I knew if I made it worse surgery would be inevitable...just make sure to stretch before and after LIGHT exercise and high reps...because u will develop scar tissue from the muscle tissue regeneration...this will help u keep that range of motion... eventually you wont really notice the weakness but u might have a divet or a noticeable deviation from the other hamstring...u can see the difference in musculature when I raise both my arms up....Every once in a wile I still feel it more along the lines of a spasm but nothing restricted and this accident was over seven years ago but my workout is back to normal...just listen to ur body...train smart, not hard in this case until u know its back to good...Good luck with it brother
ya that timing was horrible too cause it happen right after i started my first cycle lol. so it is going to be pretty much all upper body for my first cycle. but i will keep doing what i have been doing but adding light stretching more often and some massage. my buddy torn his pec and lat as well and has divets like you mentioned. hope mine isnt too gnarly...but least it is only on my hammy
HGH bro, it'll speed up recovery.
Anonlike broc said.. hot baths works, and do a light workout with the muscles, low weight/ high rep (if manageable)
the low weight and high reps have not been a problem. like i said only time i feel anything is when my leg is straight and stretching. will keep on this routine. thanks guys
Stretching is good to promote healing. Just don't overdue the stretching, but stretch often. Ice is good too. Hot baths, and massage to work the muscles layers. Keep doing light hamstring exercises, and work in some physical therapy exercises in the morning. If it's a hard tear you're looking 6-10 weeks until you can start lifting some substantial weight. Tore my quad a couple of years back. I couldn't walk for 3 weeks, couldn't run for 8 weeks, and couldn't squat with weight for 14 weeks. It takes time man good luck.
well mine must not have been too bad. I could still walk on it but just took it easy and wrapped it up. I have been doing a lot of icing and heating pads. Maybe I just stretched a little too much today. I could tell exactly where the pain was at and it lingered around until i got home and got some ice on it. I haven't been doing much massaging on it but I will start doing some light work on it. thanks for the input just was wondering if that pain while and after stretching was a sign that i should not be doing it lol
edit: maybe i havent been stretching often enough like you mentioned. really only have been doing it after working out. i'll try to do it a few times throughout my day.
For massaging my hamstring, calves, and back I use a foam roller. For anywhere else a tennis ball. That will help alot with massage you'll be good after a hot bath. Hot bath, massage, then ice. You'll be better in no time.
edit: saw the pic definitely looks like a tear with a bruise that big. I had a vertical bruise running the length of my quad. If you can still walk it's probably a tear of the muscle fascia or very close the surface. I'd still say about six weeks at least, but listen to your body like cdaddy said.
i usually use a foam roller as well and a ball of some sort. i heard that you dont want to massage it too hard or much cause it could make things worse so i will keep everything light for awhile. thanks again broc
the color is finally starting to go away and it has been about 3-4 weeks.
