Over Training or just Normal

ad

This post is not related specifically to my current cycle, just a question for the old pros.

I train everyday without taking specific rest days. Mostly because life throws random reasons to miss a workout - plane rides, unexpected long day at the office and so on. So, I train everyday I can and when i can't I call it a rest day.

Here is what I have been noticing, I can expect about 2 days a week, if I'm lucky, where I really hit the zone, a completely intense workout where everything clicks and I leave the gym high as a kite. But it never happens two days in a row. Usually, the next workout or two suck by comparison.

Is that an indication that I might in fact be over-training, perhaps not eating enough after a particularly brutal work out - or is this normal, sometimes you hit the zone and other times you don't? Personal experiences please.

Thx

There is a lot of good advice down there. I just want to add one thing coming from someone with a busy schedule. Some days I just don't get a chance to get enough food down during the day at work, so on those days I drink carbs right before and during my weight training, it helps me a lot.

Thanks for all the replies. It was like pulling a tooth, but I backed off ate a little more and came back strong.

I will try the training splits you guys suggested and work on the elbows, knees and toes on the off days.

Thanks again.

Working out everyday burns your body out bro. You need rest, in order for your body to grow and recover. a lot of lean protein, some fats and carbs will give you the energy you need. I started a new diet containing more proteins, just enough carbs and fats for recovery and muscle growth. Get your diet dialed in bro, it will make that much of a difference of energy and muscle growth. I hope this helps man.

Over training comes down to under eating. You don't grow in the gym bro....you grow outside of the gym from diet and rest. You want enough rest and nutrition to be able to heal 100% plus you want to build up enough energy from your rest and nutrition so you can push yourself right to the limit in the gym. If you simply can't pack down a ton of food due to your work environment try training splits, like 2 days on one day rest, 1 day on 1 rest , etc etc

Thank you.

What's your training breakdown look like?

Day 1 Chest, Day 2 Back, Day 3 Shoulders, Day 4 Arms, Day 5 Legs, Repeat. Week 1 Heavy Low rep, Week 2 light High Rep, Week 3 Moderate Load, 4 and 1's. Repeat.

As TT said above, you may not be refeeding enough to maintain your schedule. I used to do 6 days straight and I've switched to a 2on1off routine and it's helped me immensely. You may also want to alter how you lift. Instead of hitting all the weights heavy for the entire week, hit one group heavy, one group light, one group moderately. Sort of like Brandon Lilly's Cube technique.

Thanks to both of you; i'm all into changing it up. I'll give planned rest days a try - it's just rubs against the grain if you know what I mean.....
