+ 12 Being more welcoming

ad

Just noticed a trend recently that I'd like to get some discussion going on. Are we becoming a little unwelcoming and dare I even say hostile towards new members recently?

Fact - there has been an abundance of stupid cycles particularly from new members, which immediately gets people's backs up. Doesn't mean everyone that joins is in the same category though. Yes, I know all the "have you read the rules" stuff gets tiresome. Buts that's reality. Some of you guys are coming across as unfriendly, not something I think we as a community should portray ourselves as. Some of the responses I see are becoming quite obnoxious.

Just flick through the regular pages, straight off the bat there are members making smart ass comments like "do you even lift" etc. there's also a habit of ganging up on those deemed to be in the wrong. Surely we can communicate better than that as adults?

I've seen a lot of people come and go in my time here. Think of just the last few months, we've got some great new members with good knowledge and new ideas. Do we want to scare them off? In truth, some will have been. I want new ideas, I want to learn too. Sure sone new members won't be great additions, sone if the ones we already have aren't either!

Let's try and be a little more welcoming, it's in all of our interests.

Its funny , i was thinking the same thing for a while now, and for the sake of not having everyone jump me if i spoke up and said something about it, i just kept my mouth shut about it , which i never should have done. I agree i have seen some new guys come in and get torn apart and im sure its very discouraging. I think even the young guys who come in with these crazy cycles , it would be nice to see them handled in a way where we get them to stick around and learn and hold off on doing cycles instead of bashing them and throwing them out of here. dont get me wrong i do understand some people just dont want to listen, but i agree with everything Catalyst is saying.

Tough love is one thing and it's often necessary but a log of the time it's just people putting others down for the sake of it.

It can be difficult not to harsh sometimes to the younger guys cause for every one guy that listens u have five more that don't want advice and all there looking for is a green light and a slap on the back saying nice job.unfortunately the ones that can be helped and want to be helped are always thrown in with the countless others that are just immature kids.it's really a double edge sword cause most of these kids need tough love they don't need there hand held but I agree there are some that can be very useful members here.

I understand exactly how u feel. I had a few guys that was harsh to me when i first joined but I took my lumps and learned.in my short time here I to have bc somewhat jaded toward some of the newbies. There so much trolling and young kids all the time posting stuff and breaking the rules it gets old.I don't know How many times i seen someone start an account and first thing they do Is make a forum and break rules and upset the community. I wonder to stop this and make guys learn the site better. Is if they put a number on karma like 7 or make sure u post 100 comments before being able to post a forum. Granted this won't stop some trolling but maybe it would cut it back. This would even make those same guys do some research on there own if they needed advice instead of asking question that gets everyone dander up.it is so simple to get info here and I see time and time again people just want spoon feed answers.

I think it is about the same as it was when I finally joined after lurking for a long time. I was intimidated as hell by Roid Noid! lol. I avoided him like the plague. I remember there were helpful people and their were guys that were stand-offish and dickheads too. But a lot of that was just initial perception. Once you stick around for a little bit you figure out that there are still a few dickheads but most of the guys are friendly.

We should be at least hospitable to the noobs but you earn your stripes by your presence here. Or pic whoring, lol
