Metal and Rock Fans

ad

Do we have any old school fans here?
I think the last new bands that I've liked are Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters...after them haven't found anything that's been worth listening.
I'm open to suggestions so let them come.
Most of the time I'm still stuck with the great bands of 70's & 80's,

I will have to agree Disturbed is another band I would classify as Octane rock. Sucks and is meant for guys that wear affliction shirts and chick jeans with crosses and rhinestones and shit, lol

tonytulo's picture

I have satilite radio in the truck but plug in spotify instead.....lol. Disturbed had one good album and it was his first. Not too many nu metal bands worth a fuck tbh.

I actually have 3 months of free apple streaming right now and I think I will be canceling sirius and just pay 14.95 a month to have all of our devices live.

tonytulo's picture

nice.

Pale's picture

Bingo! I also detest the wannabe farmer/cowboys..

Classic!

Haha, awesome post! I briefly lived in a town full of those losers.

awagz's picture

Haha that's pretty funny. Up my way, those guys infect the club scene and make cheap cologne in short supply. However, out where I live these guys are pumping fists all day n night to some house and deep trance BS, and wouldn't know who David Draiman was if he spit on their Gucci sunglasses.

We would be remiss to leave Rammstein off the list. That band is a trip..

tonytulo's picture

They're putting a new album out.

My sister has seen them a few times, including once in germany, she SWEARS by them. I'd check them out live for sure, I just have a hard time with music I can't understand without getting a Rosetta Stone lol

You may want to check out machine head. They come to the table with a different sound, longer songs, and are fairly heavy, but not over powering. Reminiscent of the 80s metal.

Some up and comers are:
Nothing More
Of Mice and Men
Like a Storm

Although admittedly these three aren't along the metal lines PER SE.

More favorites are:
Red, Avenged Sevenfold (check out their self titled album, about 10 years old but still awesome)
Five finger death punch, asking Alexandria (they just got a new singer, not sure how that's gonna work out but their newest single I won't give in is good), former lead singer of asking Alexandria's new band We are Harlot, Saint Asonia (former 3 days Grace singers new band), bullet for my valentine, motionless in white, avatar, pop evil, shinedown, slipknot, stone sour, hellyeah, halestorm, aranda, amaranthe, papa roach, in this moment, rise against, red sun rising....I could go on for weeks!

I remember when Machine Head started they got popular with their debut album but then something happened and somewhat vanished for a while...I was mostly into pre-machine head that was called vio-lence. After they changed their line up a bit and name I didn't like them so much anymore..they came too calculated for lack of a better word in their music for my taste. Mostly people though the other way gotta say that, I was pretty much alone with my opinion lol

awagz's picture

I'll have to check vio-lense out, I honestly never heard of them.

I had never heard they were the early version of MH. I know the singer is different for sure.

ballsack's picture

I think it was more like one or two main song writers and I can't remember their names, quit and went to form Machine Head.
Not sure about that though, it was long time ago.
But I do remember that the guys in MH had to answer questions as to why vio-lence sucked and MD is so great by reporters.
Edit: Just checked out and it was only Robb Flynn. So I guess it calling it pre-MH was not that accurate.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vio-lence

treadgold's picture

phil demmel was also in vio-lence with rob flynn. Phil was actually the main songwriter for vio-lence, until they got rid of their original guitarist and brought flynn in, who was in the original incarnation of Forbidden. flynn later left viol-lence and formed formed machine head and phil came to the group after the original machine head guitarist left. Damn...i miss the days of going to the Stone in san francisco and seeing all these up and coming bay area bands.

ballsack's picture

You're memory is better than mine no doubt lol. I miss those days also, so many new exciting bands came from that area in short period of time.

treadgold's picture

check out battlecross, newer band from detroit i believe. Cant go wrong with trivium or shadows fall

I've had an English band called Asking Alexandria on repeat for months, mite be worth a try! little bit heavier than foo fighters tho.

ballsack's picture

Lot of bands I've never heard of, gotta check them out.
I do regularly listen to Rock\Metal radios and hear some of them newer bands but most of them do nothing for me.
I was right there when bands like Slayer, Exodus etc started, bought their first albums where nobody know anything about them. Later more on to even more extreme stuff, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Obituary etc.
Damn...now that I wrote them..,gotta listen some Obituary..shit is good.
Nothing beats some Slowly we rot album on a leg day!!!

Pale's picture

Reign in Blood is also a regular in my rotation. That is one of the greatest metal albums of all time.

ballsack's picture

It truly is.
Up there in the best 10 of all time.
South of heaven was awesome also.

Pale's picture

I would add in The Sword along with Kyuss. And if you haven't ever dug into the COC catalog it is one of my personal favorites.

cdyrdes's picture

Seen the sword 3 times last year.....good stuff

konig's picture

The sword is the shit!
