College Football 2014
ad
I was reading around on this group and I decided to place this post up to see if I could get some decent feedback. All of us true college football fans know the season may be over, but we never stop thinking about next season. Well there is something interesting happening next season. The four team playoff is coming and it looks like we are going to have to get used to it. Give me your thoughts on the new playoff system. If you like it or not give me some reasons why. Next give me your four team prediction for next year. List the teams 1 thru 4 and who will take home the Crystal Ball.

Since the 2014 season is near I figured I'd revive this thread.
The selection committee is an "unbiased" panel of individuals from different walks of life; however how unbiased can you be? If Florida was on the bubble, you're dang right I'd pick them even if they truly were the number 5 team.
The computers didn't have favorites. The BCS, though not perfect, wasn't broken. I guess this year's inaugural playoff season will tell the story.
FLORIDA GATORS' REVENGE TOUR STARTS AUGUST 30th. Redemption!!!
I like the idea but hate how they are choosing the team's with a panel of poeple it all political now. They are dumbasses the bcs worked they constantly year in and year out got the top four teams right imo. So why not keep the bcs and take the top four teams every year instead of relying on a small group of people. I mean look back at the last ten years and I think u can say without a doubt the bcs got the top four teams. If u did this u wouldn't have to worry bout Oklahoma state not getting in the year they was left out bc the top two went. The reality of this is the panel may pick the sixth ranked team in the country if they deem them worthy. It's all politics now something college football has enough of already. Who are u goin to take a fifth ranked Notre damne and the giant money or Boise state ranked fourth and the revenue won't be anything near what the Irish pull in.
I would have to say
FSU
Alabama
Oregon
Michigan state
The tough part is michigan state and oregon play each other the 2nd game of the season which is huge. Oregon has a slight advantage cause it is in there house but they got to keep that offense rolling they can't afford to let possibly one of the if not thee top returning defense in the country to get numerous stops. Michigan states D is nuts.
That being said if oregon can get passed michigan state. I feel they will take Stanford and UCLA this year who are both top teams in the pac-12.
Oregon takes home the ball
Nothing wrong with change. Meaning when it comes to this topic I don't see how it could hurt. Just like with the BCS there will be the pros and the cons. I think a playoff is a great idea. Like I said though just like with the BCS there will be schools, fans and sports commentators who think this or that team should have gotten in. It will make schools have to play tougher schedules which will mean better games and better ratings for TV. My four team prediction is (1) FSU, (2) Alabama, (3) OU "BOOMER SOONER!!!", (4) Stanford. OU takes home the ball!!!
Thank you for bringing up the tougher schedule point. One of the big criteria's of the panel will be strength of schedule. Of course my team (Ohio State) is guilty of a soft schedule. I believe the powerhouse schools are going to have to find better non-conference opponents to better their strength of schedule. This will make the first four games of our teams better, and make for a more interesting season.
Couldn't agree more.
They need to bump it up to 16 teams !!
I disagree with 16 teams. The top 8 is as high as I would go. The problem is the bigger former BCS schools who get the 4 and 5 star talent will crush the 14, 15, and 16th team in the playoff. It would make for bad games. This of course is just my honest opinion.
And that my friend is the beauty of ncaa basketball tourney!...so if a number 16 football underdog with 3stars and 2 stars whips ass and its way to a championship thats way more exciting and the only reason i enjoy college basketball.plus it may be a team no one has heard of that sneaks in and pounds its way to the top!..unlikely(yes), unrealistic(maybe), impossible(nope)...just ask #2 michigan in a season opener in like 07 or 08 (cant remember year) they beat the balls off mike hart (great college rb)and michigan and won by a fg..sick game..
The game in question was in 2007. It was the season opener Michigan had against Appalachian St. I like the point you make about having that underdog making their was through the playoff. I agree it would not happen a lot, but it is possible. I doubt college football presidents and ad's will want that many playoff teams anytime soon. Their are a lot of TV deals with bowl games that these people will want to keep. It is sad, but money is a driving force in this system. Ideally I think a 10 game season with a 16 team playoff would be ideal. But then you kill all the bowl games by going to this system.
Just bowls(playoff games) for the worthy not everybody lol...
