Protein shake or BCAA capules after workout?
ad
I have both protein powder and BCAA capules but I don't know which one would be the best to take after a workout. Ive read that you should take the BCAA after a workout on there own with no shake or food. I know that most protein shakes contain BCAA's but not in such a high dose as you'd get from taking the capules. Anyone have any comments/advice on this?

u can actually take both together the bcaas will actually help you absorb the protein a lot better and for sure the protein shake would be more beneficial than takin just bcaa caps after....what I would do is take bcaas right before you hit the weights and drink the protein shake right after
I take direktly after workout a whey shake with maltodextrin/dextrose. Round about one our later a full meal. BCAAs i just take before workout.
I take my BCAA's before and after. Universal Torrent for intra. Also eat carbs after my workout with protein.
The brand of BCAAs I take is a famous one and they say it can be taken pre, intra or post workout. I take it intra and its awesome. If taken post then it was mentioned to take protein an hour later. Id rather not do tht coz my body I feel is really starving for nutrients after a hard workout so BCAAs intra (least the brand I take works) and protein post.
I put a serving of scivation extend in a 1L bottle and drink it over the course of hour and a half. Protein shake about 30 minutes after exercise.
I like the Modern BCAAs during, definately helps the endurance during the 2nd half of the workout. I like to throw in 2-4g of citruline malate as well to aid the pump.
BCAA's during, protein shake, 30-90 minutes after workout followed by as swollen beast said a 'whole food' meal.
Love BCAA's but the tablets get expensive so I buy the powders in bulk, which tastes like the most disgusting thing in the world.
I love the BCAA powders as well (during), but I get the flavored, name brand ones. They are very tasty, but they can be expensive. I try to shop around (on-line) and usually find a good deal. I won't workout without them!
I don't want to hijack this thread but can you recommend a make?
Friend sent. PM me and I'll get you some I like.
I personally take my bcaa pills before my workout so by the time I'm finished, they should be fully circulating through my body. Right after my workout I'll mix my creatine powder (already containing sugars and carbs) with GRAPE JUICE to spike my insulin levels naturally. This will drive the bcaa's, creatine, and glycogen right to the worked muscles.
I agree with you both.. No such thing as too many aminos.... I take aminos "right" after my workout.... then about 20 to 30 mins after that I drink a protein shake if I am on the go, or a whole food meal is the best.... If I go with a shake I use 2 - 2 1/2 scoops of ISO-100 with 1 bottle of starbucks mocha frappuccino.... I use that because of the simple sugars to replenish my glycogen levels..... Plus its easy to make when I am on the road..... Note: sometimes I will pop another bag of aminos later in the day
Best would be both. BCAA's immediately post workout and portein shake 30 minutes later the whole food 1 hour later
BCAA capules - myprotein.com I received the order and it was on time and the pills work great.
Cheers rsp2000,
Will follow your advice.
For the electrolytes, am I best to use a bottle of powerade mixed with a carb powder or would I be better off buying some electrolyte powder and using that? Or does it not matter as long as Im getting them in.
I prefer the elec capsules as I know what I am getting but a number of the emerging supplements around peri workouts have them already in it.
4:1:1 Amino, Electrolytes and a decent carbohydrate....[the newer dextrins are good] failing that a pre digested protein namely Hydroslate with some Carbs
