+ 1 total test is 768, free test is 445
Hi Everyone,
I recently had my lab work done and my bioavailable test came back too hi (445 and the range limit was 190 ) my total test was 768 and the rest of my numbers were well with in the normal range except my tsh which was a little high, but I take 150mcg of levothyroxine for my thyroid so that may increase.
My concern here is the doctor has lowered my test dosage from 110mg/wk to 100mg/wk because of the bioavailable test numbers. I have done some research but cannot find any reason why high bioavailable free test is a bad thing.
since the change in dosage I have experience some ill effects like softer erections being tired in the middle of the day and a general feeling of apathy.
I'm hoping someone can explain some of this to me or point me in the rite direction to find the answers to my dilemma.
Thanks mk

Negative effects from a 10mg decrease has to be all psychological. I know lower test sounds bad but your doctor is doing this to keep you healthy. Your health is his concern not how alpha you do or don't feel.
AnonDoc is right in regards to his/her protocol. That being said... it's only 10mg, so doubt you notice. Secondly, if your feeling frogy then jump, order your own test and maintain yourself. Most doctors are reserve, what type of doc is this, never seen such a low dose. And I would add proviron, I asked my family doc to prescribe proviron, she said what is that... so ordered my own. If you venture on your own just be upfront with your doc... worst case scenario you find a new doc. Good luck brother
Did you ask your doc why? First thing I would have done. If he/she is really knowledgeable (which i would hope he/she is) they could point you to the references they're pulling from. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
I don't know specifically about free test off hand but it's all about balance with hormones. Free or bound. Test/estrogen ratio for healthy metabolism. Not too much and not too little. Everyone is different as we all know.
If this is all done through your doctor, you need to relay the symptoms/side effects you experience from any changes in dosages or medications to him. But I can't see a drop from 110mg-100mg being anything more than psychological if it's causing that much of a change.
This may come off as being a dick but 10mg is psychological man. I guess it is possible but my response would be put on our big boy pants it's 10mg.
you may well be correct, and I may get used to the change in time. But I would still like to know why high bioavailable test is bad.
Because high available test increases E2, increases bad cholesterol, and also increases DHT and gives you higher blood pressure. By dropping your dose the doctor is trying to lower the free test and if it works be will lower it again until it levels out.
Thanks for your reply, E2 levels were with in the range specified by the test, good cholesterol was low and bad was high. my blood pressure has been running higher than normal (for me). Hopefully the change corrects all this. Thanks for your input.
You're not taking proviron?
no doc gave me test only.
Dr prescribed TRT,............ Dr gets to make the RULES, you don't want to play by his RULES,........ You should be able to figure out how that goes.
Why is your free Test level so high?? A little extra in the side ?? Or is there a problem that he should be chasing down.
As others have said " it's 10 mg,........its in your head. "
Agreed
Nothing extra in at least 6 months, and I concede that the change in dose my well be in my head.
