Had thyroid and test levels checked. No sex drive, energy low, sleep bad.
46 years old
TSH-4.21 Normal
T4 Free 1.4-Normal
Test total-274 - Came in normal with a range of 241-827.
All the symptoms of low test but doc not prescribing anything. Is this the norm or is my doc worrying too much about the number and not the symptoms? My doc is 65 years old by the way. If that matters in his thinking.

Yes, doc did same to me. Same symptoms. Mine was like 300, very low normal. Ass. Then wanted to prescribe me ambien, Zoloft and some other shit. I went UGL and have been happy ever since. Docs are just doing what they are told so they don't have license problems....that is the stated 'normal' level range, but that is if you are wanting to BE a 60 year old aging like a 60 year old. Remember 60 year old Native Americans? No, you don't. All those ancient Indian pics were guys in their 30s and 40s. Im sure their living conditions played a part, but I am not going quietly into the good night. Until I have to.
That testosterone level is too low. Go look at my blood test results they might be of interest to you. The HCG improved my quality of life but its not guaranteed to work for everyone.
Some doctors seem to have forgotten that the ranges given for almost all blood tests have no scientific validity. They were created by testing a large number of random people and arbitrarily deciding the top and bottom 5% (I think it was five percent, or maybe within 2 sigma of the mean) are abnormal.
Many of us have had test levels within the acceptable reference range yet suffered from symptoms of low T, which resolved when TRT was started.
As suggested below, find another Dr, but at the same time remember the "Low T" specialists in those clinics don't make anything unless they diagnose you with Low T, so educate yourself thoroughly and try to know as much about it as the specialists. Or at least enough to ask the right questions.
47 here and on TRT. Before therapy my test total was 140. You should find a good doc, I'm on 200mg test cyp, self inject. I also am prescribed anastrozole and HCG. The are a few clinics that just need to see you once and everything else is done by email. A good place to for more research is in the forums on T-Nation.
LowTestosterone.com is one of those one visit places, they even advertise that they will fly you to Houston Texas on them for your first visit. They are 200 bucks a month which includes all labs and scrips. Another is John Crisler over at all things male not sure about his prices but you can get meds on insurance from them. If you live near San Antonio Texas I can hook you up with my doc that sees no problem with a man in his 40's with the T levels of a 20yo. I average 850 after 7 days and he's cool with it.
It's changed my life, I went from a 36%bf anxious, depressed, insomniac, blob to a 5'11" 245lb 18%bf, sleep like a baby, beast in the sack, that doesn't give two shit's about most things. TRT played a big part but Mark Rippetoe and Starting Strength did too.
See a trt doc not a regular primary doc. Primary care docs no shit about trt. I'm only 34 with 280 level.
RustyhookerThe guys below gotcha right. Your sub 300 and at our age, things drop. Second opinion and work closely with trt before trying to experiment on your own.
Thanks guys. Self medicating would be an absolute last resort. My wife thinks I'm either having an affair, or I don't love her anymore because of my lack of interest in sex. I just want to feel normal again.
Im not so sure. Perhaps because I have been in medical/nursing field for so long, but honestly, if you do your homework, order from top rated sources, and read, read, read everything you can on here about diff tests, TRT, etc. I would always disagree with self medicating (although I do), however, i don't trust GPs (if public knew how little they do know about it even if they do prescribe it, it would calm fears about an educated, well read man self medicating after doing homework. I don't know. I guess I have been doing this for 35 years and know that MDs cannot possibly know everything, esp hormones. All they knew was dump estrogen on women until that did not work out and it is not because they are stupid or uncaring (most of them), it is because what they are doing is "standard of practice". In the world of GPs, etc. (not the TRT centers), they usually (if they want to practice long) bow to whatever current "standard of practice" is because it is their only safety net and actually is good scientific practice to follow standards if you are a generalist, etc. And keeps your license clean. However, what you described about your lack of interest in sex, reminded me of what it was like when I weighed 300 lbs and how"flat" life was. If you do self medicate, get some good friends on here, who can give you advice after you do your homework. These guys really helped me. I lost my weight before I ever tried Test. What I don't like to see is the low ass doses they start guys at (usually) and it can be a year or more before they get it right if they ever do and the patient just loses interest and lets the MD prescribe an antidepressant. OH, just wanted to mention, wife and my sex life (together..lol) is actually MUCH better than it was when we were horny 30 year olds. I shit you not.
Man your like the 3 guy this week who's said the same thing. "My wife thinks im having an affair". Idk why women have to think like that. I had a problem with opiates for years which all suppress testosterone and my ex used to say the same thing. Thu just can't understand that we have no interest in having sex. When your test is low sex is not only a chore, but it's also incredibly tiring. Find a good trt dctor asap. Send me a fr and a pm and will talk if you'd like.
I don't know. Red flags go up. I get suspicious in my old age if they "doth protest too much". Wives seem to get really suspcious when they are doing something or thinking of doing something.....just saying, prob not your lady
That was probably so wrong and unnecessary.....
RustyhookerBe honest with wifey. She'll understand. Some guys are feeling great at 300 while others need the number at 600. That's why the range is so broad.
Well brother if you are only gonna use it as a last resort may I offer some other solutions.Healthy fats need to be upped peanuts almonds walnut they will help increase your natural test production Also D-aspartic Acid dosed at 3.2 grams can raise your testosterone by I believe 42%(Dont quote me on that) They did a clinical study in italy and by the two week mark all the men in the study testosterone had increased significantly. Now 42% percent is worthless in terms of muscle gains per se.But amazing in terms of libido and overall well being.I would research that and also clomid.those are other options brother that may help you
Goodluck
I would first get a second test and opinion. Find a doc that will help out. Always best to go with doctor ordered TRT. Let us know what happens.
Get another opinion.
