Hello all
New here. 50 Years old, picking up weights after 30 yr layoff. Only lifted for 6 mos as a teen, had good gains, and have maintained decent overall body comp, so I feel my genetics are pretty decent. That said, recently divorced for the second time, and lost my 16 year old daughter to cancer. Overall, I am seriously depressed, dealing with PTSD, and overall just tired. Panel shows low T, and I am seeking replacement therappy, but I do not want to not only feel better, I want to gain some mass, feel better, more energy, attitude etc...I have never been on gear, but I want to be, as I have researched alot, and the benefits, transformations, even at 50, that i have seen, are amazing. I am looking to remain on it forever, with a goal of gaining maybe 15-20lbs if muscle over the next 2-3 years and then maintain it with proper dosages. Is my best bet to just go to the TRT clinic? From what I understand, they will only dose to hopefully get rid of the symtoms? 200mg or a bit higher at best, is what I see more often than not, so I am looking for higher dosages than that. I am not looking to run it in concert with any other anabolics at this point, so just straight test is what I am looking at. What in your experiences should my efforts be focused on. And if anyone has suggestions, or online clinics they could rec, please do and thank you all.

Hello brother.
I can't even fathom to experience the pain of going through an event like that. I admire greatly your attitude and willingness to get better. The fact that you are trying to get on your feet after everything that you went through is simply amazing.
You are definitely in the right age to experience the amazing benefits of being on Hormone Replacement Therapy. Go to a doctor and do it right.
Once you start your therapy, just stay with it and get the best of it. You would be surprised how much you can gain once you get back to normal healthy levels. In the meantime learn about eating for gaining muscle. Study about nutrition and how the body works, there's so much to undestand and learn that once you get deep enough in this, you will understand that it is a lifestyle/lifetime commitment and it is awesome. Dedicate yourself to learn about lifting techniques and the purpose, movement and mechanics of every muscle in your body.
Once you have learned about all of the basics and fundamentals of building muscle and the science behind it, then you can start to think about adding some basic compounds.
But for now just work on your discipline, habits and fundamental knowledge of what's needed to build muscle.
Get the guidance of a doctor. Workout hard, eat good and sleep well. This is all you need right now.
There's a great community here, with some great knowledgeable individuals to help you reach your goals.
AnonThis is the right answer. Read Izzy's twice.
I GUARANTEE everyone here, at some point, has looked back and thought, 'well shit...in the end it IS about the food, the work and the life style changes." I, personally, sometimes question how much really comes from the needle with the lifestyle transformation i've gone through over the past 5 or 6 years.
Im you. 'Enhanced' is the goal...like a cherry on top of everything else being done right. Cherry goes on last...but to your point, a Sunday isn't worth a f%%k if that one little detail is left off. ;)
Good luck. Look forward to seeing your progress.
Bigun2Sorry to hear about your daughter. That’s pain no man should have to feel.
Post up your bloodwork. I’d be interested in seeing what your levels are. Also, what’s your diet like? Gaining 15-20 lbs of lean mass is going to have everything to do with how you manipulate macros, exogenous hormones or not. If your diet is shit it doesn’t matter how much Test you take you’ll still look and feel like shit if your diet is shit. Post up your bloodwork and diet and we’ll go from there.
He needs to do this with a doctor, not with random people (no offense) on a forum.
Being traumatized and doing gear is a bad combination and can get out of hand quickly, and i say this out of experience.
@OP keep us updated, but do it the right way, please...
Bigun2Yup, not arguing with you on any of that. I always advocate taking prescription medications (if that’s what one needs; I’m not a physician so I’m not qualified to say what someone may or may not need to take) under the care of a physician. Not sure what I said to make you think otherwise?
You make it sound that test in combination with a good diet will make him feel well and solve his problems (which could be right for most people), but he clearly states that he's traumatized and suffers from depression.
Someone with PTSD and the wrong "therapy" could go very wrong.
Bigun2Dude I never told the guy to take anything. I said post lab work (which presumably he’d have to see a doctor for) and to post his diet (which can affect not only gym results, but also depression as well).
I’m not sure how you’ve read what I posted and warped it into me telling the guy to do drugs. I never even mentioned drugs in my post. If he did what I suggested (go have a dr draw bloodwork and post the results for the forum to see, post your current diet so we can see what you’re eating) absolutely 0 harm would have come to him. I’m not arguing with anything you’ve said up until this point; I’m not sure why you’re taking what I said and suggesting I said otherwise?
I know you never said that, and i was just saying "you make it sound like that".
Your sentence: "If your diet is shit it doesn’t matter how much Test you take you’ll still look and feel like shit if your diet is shit."
On a public forum you are never talking to the topic starter alone, there are more people just lurking here, and some people will just read what they want to read, to get a "fix" for their problems.
But OP has a bit more problems than just low T and diet.
I hope you get my point now.
Bigun2Yea I’ve never missed your point, nor have I argued with the validity of your point. We’ve been saying the exact same thing but somehow it felt like you weren’t seeing that. All good man; no harm no foul.
AnonI just saw this ... a valid point to consider, when talking about adding hormones to emotional issues or instability.
Exactly.
Bro thats a messed up deal ur dealing with.. DO NOT ABUSE HORMONE REPLACEMENT TREATMENT!!! Do urself a favor a get with a doctor and go thru the correct ways of dealing with low t. If u do a cycle it will be no better than surrendering to a drug addiction. Do it right, then continue ur journey into bodybuilding or fitness or whatever. There's alot more to this than just drugs! U have diet, bloodwork, and workout commitments.. get ur head straight...
Yes go to a doctor, in person
Thank you for your response.
