Whats Easier
ad
What do you guys think is easier , being a naturally lean smaller guy trying to put on lean muscle mass or being a heavy guy trying to slim down and look good? i have always been a big guy and put on weight easy if i dont watch my diet, i feel its harder for guys like me to stay lean and in shape then for a naturally lean guy to put on the muscle mass.

I am an ectomorph, wish I was a naturally big guy. Also wish I was shorter without a naturally receding hair line. Also wish I was rich so I could stay on cycle all the time and I would just buy a new heart every couple years, but I love my little .49cc scooter because I look huge rolling to the gym!
why would u want to be shorter? we're about the same exact height/size. and i fucking love it.
AnonBeing 5'5 sucks in terms of everyday life. People look down on you, girls don't find you as attractive.
The one thing I do love about being short though is how easy it is to look big. I'm 5'5 ~130lbs and have 13inch arms. People always comment on how big I look even though I'm not actually that big.
Can't imagine how huge I'd look if I ever went on roids or reached my natural potential.
Dunno if I really want to look that big though.
yeah its much harder to build your arms and chest when your tall. thank god im huge too and not just tall. but if i wasnt. height would be a bitch. people think its easier for the bigger dudes. gota remember, the travel distance for us is much longer on curls, pushups, etc.
AnonBahaha. If you honestly think the few inches makes that big a difference you're dead wrong. The reason it's a little harder for people with longer limbs is because of the torque.
Torque=Forceradiussine(theta)
Since the force required to curl any weight is going to be the same and the degree at which we curl is going to be the same as well radius is the only variable.
with longer arms you have a higher radius which increases the torque required to push/pull up the weight.
Since the force required to push/pull an object off the ground is just going to be equal to a differential above the weight of the object you can relate the extra few inches to the weight.
Weight is determined by gravity (massgravity) which is ~32ft/s^2. Force=ma and since 4<<<<(3212) those extra inches mean almost nothing.
Please don't spread broscience about the extra inches. It isn't correct and further pushes incorrect information.
ive had several people tell me it has to do with length. also the length of the actual muscle. i'll let some one more knowledge and less stoned read this and answer.
AnonGood on ya.
Anyone with basic physics 1 knowledge can prove this. Shouldn't be too hard to find.
ok so i just read that. and im pretty sure its correct. but your just proving my point here guy. i said its harder for me because my arms are longer. you said a few inches has nothing to do with it and then proved why a few extra inches require more torque. way to disprove bro science bro.
AnonNo you said the travel distance is what makes it harder.
Also it really isn't that much harder.
Take for example a 100lb bar curl.
The distance from my elbow to the middle of my hand is ~ 14 inches or ~.35m
The distance from your elbow I'm guessing can't be much over 16 inches or ~.4m
Since Theta is going to be the same since we're going through the same range of motion we can leave it out and since mass is also the same the force required will also be the same.
So really the difference in torque required between the two of us would just be equal to the ratio of the radius of are arms
So the the ratio of torque required would be .4/.35 or around 1.14.
This means it takes 14% more torque for you to curl that bar.
Also none of this applies to things like pushups or bench press or anything where you're not using torque.
And even then 14% isn't that much plus I'm only 5'5 vs you being over 6 foot. Most people's arms are probably a lot closer to your arm length.
Obviously as you go ridiculously high that 14% is going to be more pronounced, but even at something like a lb bar is only going to be 14lbs or so heavier.
It really doesn't make that big a difference.
AnonTorque= Force x radius x sine(theta)
Weight= Mass x gravity
also should be 32x12 not 3212
I guess it doesn't like asterisks.
AnonWhat the crap happened to all my multiplication signs?
I agree the difference in arm length isn't that big of a deal as far as how easy it is to curl a bar.. I've got long arms but if I wanna curl that bastard a few inches isn't stopping me.. but the difference is there even if it's tiny.. But I would like think the less length you have the easier it is to pull on mass.. my shorter gym buddies bulk much better.. Needing to fill less space with muscle.. I'm just going off living examples standing in front of me.. The only one I can say doesn't has the bone structure of a 12 year old.. poor guys growth was stunted at 5'2.. the bones didn't even get a chance to thicken up.
side note- I'm just applying what I know.. I'm not expert by any means but I think we can all agree men with slower metabolisms have a much easier time throwing mass onto their frame.. If you apply that knowledge to the idea the taller you are the more nutrients you burn up to fuel your larger frame.. So if that's the case a shorter guy would burn less which means hes going to have an easier time gaining mass.. even that may be a small difference but it's still a difference, right? Or am I just completely babbling from lack of sleep >.>
ImTestyA older guy in the gym told me he wanted to be big his whole life(and believe me he's big) but he said at 35-40 years old you don't wanna be this big huge guy you wanna look cut and shredded...how much of that is true idk but that was his opinion on the matter
I believe it is human nature to want what you don't have. I've never heard a true hard gainer say he wants to be lean, it's always bigger bigger.. And I've never heard bigger guys say they want to get bigger it's always leaner leaner.. Or maybe it's that plus our ideal body image as body builders lies somewhere in the middle of all of that.
tread-mSooooooooooooo much easier to carve a big guy who is dedicated. I was a hard gainer most of my life and always hated watching these bigger guys come in on their new diet and decide to get their life back together, their look in just 4 weeks changes so much more than the lean guy often working twice as hard, having to pound calories like he's going to war and just have every single little thing in order to pull on good muscle and the size just comes so slow. Now I do understand the flip side of the argument, the big guy has to be very precise in diet as far as specific foods and synergy and yes the lean guy will get away with things the bigger guy won't.
its funny really, we all want what we don't have. The lean guy wants to be big the big guy wants to be lean and the guy in the middle has a split personality and ends up on death row. Anyway, I've managed to stay off death row but let me say this, helping guys here at home or here on eroids or for the EBC, IMO it has always been so much easier for me to carve up the big guy and help him get "the look" than it is to build the lean guy up to get the look. With the big guy recomp is 90% of what we are doing. It seems as though its a lot easier to move things around on this guy, peel fat and lay on some extra muscle in the process if he is "dedicated". I'm working with a few now and one that is the joy of my day now, already seeing recomp and getting compliments from people in just over 3 weeks. In that scenario you are recomping, burning fat, bringing on new muscle...so many angle sto work from by where the lean guy has one angle, put on muscle. Not many lean guys can start having compliments from people in 3 weeks.
So my answer is carve the big guy is easier. I have some personal experience there as well. I was always lean as hell and could go pound down anything I wanted in the cheat area and not gain an ounce of fat until early 30's. Then I became the other guy over nigt as my metabolism changed. I increased my workout time and began working the kitchen better this shit was still coming on. Nice to see the size for the first time in my life as far as size I didn't have to work my ass off for but still coming on too fast. So I guess over about a yr I went way too far and even my bf had skyrocketed, looked more like a power lifter which was not my goal at all so I adopted a new plan and dropped 32 pounds in 30 days and then over another 30 finished carving the shit out of myself. I had achieved more towards "the look" in that 60 days than in any other 1 yr period in my life. So just for me personally, my preference would be thebigger guy carving. Now if this was not my world then I would prefer my pre 30's metabolism given it was a better and healthier metabolism for a person who did not aspire to stay in shape. I would simply say this to the bigger guy, its all about the carbs. There is nothing else you can do gym or compounds that will have the effect of carb manipulation.
x10000. all i got to do is stay lean and i look huge
it just seems to me that when those naturally lean smaller guys start the juice, they get that lean ripped up look so much easier then the guy who eats one slice of bread and puts on weight, its a constant struggle for me to stay lean, im still trying to pull off the whole carb thing, i havent gotten it down yet
That's true on juice we get the ripped look easier but we also loose that new muscle easier after the cycle
Ehhh I'm def a ectomorph and I stay lean... For me to even consider bulking I have to eat so much more than my friends with slower metabolisms.. Literally if I don't watch my protein intake and calories for several days - just don't stuff my face... work out buddies immediately notice my size "deflating"... COMPLETE pain in the ass having a fast metabolism in my opinion. All you do is eat then shit.. eat some more then shit some more all day. Big guys wanna be lean and lean guys want to be big... You wan't what you don't have in my opinion or else it wouldn't be a challenge to change your body and then there goes all the fun in body building..
You sound like my husband. Eat, shit, eat, shit. I get exhausted just being around him. I really don't see how he does it. He can't sleep thru the night with out eating. Sometimes he gets so tired of just chewing! Lol
Smoothies have helped a lot.. I can just chug down the calories and protein.
CleyonThat's why you buy a quality blender and just put your meal in it. That's saved my bacon a number of times.
