Weekend workouts

ad

Just finished up killing my shoulders. I don't know about everybody else but my two favorite lifting days of the week are Saturday and Sunday. You have none of the work stress that may be weighing down the weekday, plus o am able to hit first thing in the morning versus afternoon/evening during the week.

How about you guys, what days of the week are your favorites?

I like training best on days that I don't have any or much work to do,,,but that's a rarity for me.

Pale's picture

Exactly why I like the weekends lol

Pale's picture

I went in and did shoulders and some tris, but I am basically crippled, lol

Pale's picture

Traps are the most important menu item for tomorrow. My primary is going to be snatch grip high pulls up to about 315 (we will see). I would like to do some more deadlifting too but I have my doubts on that one.

The proper term is special needs. :-)

I told my wife I need one of them amigos lol

I'm with you mate, love killing Delts on a Sunday before lunch.

Amen brother, It also sucks when school starts the first month and for about two weeks after New Year.
After every one finds out time and discipline os required also.
I have been known to do most holidays too.

Pale's picture

Saturday and Sunday are my two biggest days lifting normally. This week has been a bit different tho since my employees are all deer hunting.

Close enough to the weekend. This morning I did an old favorite that I picked up off T-nation. Back squat 315 for two reps every minute for 30 minutes straight. It has been at least a year since I have done this one but wow, what an ass kicking.

The first ten minutes you are kind of laughing to yourself at how bad ass you are because this isn't even phasing you.

By the fifteen minute mark your inner bitch is telling you to just cut it short because it is starting to get hard and you don't want to be sore AF later.

By the time you pass twenty minutes the sweat is pouring and you know you fucked up.

Five minutes to go, somebody shoot me. But wait, you are rounding third and heading for home, keep digging. Boom! You made it!

Ten minutes after, oh shit, my legs are crippled, lol

Sounds like tomorrow's gonna be an off day. Look into the Acorn stair lift and get one that has the built in commode.

lol, my wife has been laughing at me all day. I will still do shoulders tomorrow, just may be more seated than standing for a change.

Think I’ll give that one a try tonight. Sounds like a nice shock to the system. I’m realizing I’ve put too much doc s on the fast twitch fibers.
I’ve picked up some pretty good exercises off there lately. I just incorporated the 100 plate raises with a 25 pound plate for traps as a finisher. I thought it was gonna be a joke. It kicked my ass.

Pale's picture

I love that plate raise and it is much harder than it sounds. That is a lift that mentally tests you.

shawn0712's picture

I gave it a shot. Honestly, I failed at the 23 minute mark and dropped a plate so I could finish out. Halfway through I thought I had it licked. Then we took the kids to the zoo today and I tried not to act like their grandpa. Now I don’t wanna get up, but I’m due at the gym in 45 minutes. I like that one a lot though. I’m gonna lick my wounds and give it another shot when I can walk again.

Pale's picture

Right on,lol. It is definitely no joke. I have only done this one three times over a couple year period. It is one of my favorites tho since the rush of crossing the finish line is eclipsed by the pain you will suffer, lol. DOMS pain is good pain anyway. Smile

I have always worked out on the weekends too, being that I don't have plans that make it impossible to hit the weights. I agree with you Darth Pale, weekdays get hectic, and starting off the week, Sunday, with a workout, gives a lot of flexibility if something comes up during the week. I always do a full upper body on Sat, nothing heavy, but high reps little rest with abs/cardio. Sundays I murder my legs. With that said Happy Easter, about to head to the gym shortly.

Pale's picture

Right on. That sounds like an infallible plan. Happy Easter to you as well.

For the most part, I don't have set days off, they vary! But I agree brother Pale, days off are the best for training! I'll usually try to incorporate a double split! Up in the early am with a two cups of espresso, than hit the gym working a large body part! Come home, shower, eat a healthy breakfast, take a nap and hit a smaller body part in the pm. I so love that!

Pale's picture

My wife busts out two a days all the time. I need work on that.

Theophany's picture

Wow! Kudos to your lovely wife! If time allows, I think you would really enjoy that!

Pale's picture

I need to start investing in some equipment for here at home. Our gym is about 10 miles away, so making the trip twice gets a little crazy.

Theophany's picture

Understandable! Sometimes the commute itself detracts from your motivation! I'll share with you the simple setup we have at our home! A standard bench press, capable of incline/decline with leg attachments! A Olympic barbell set and a bow flex adjustable dumbell set! Simple, basic, effective and not overly expensive! Hopes this helps brother!
I also have a heavy bag/speed bag combo setup for cardio purposes! My knees are not all that good anymore!

Pale's picture

Yea, I have three heavy bags I purchased and left at the gym for everyone to use. I need to bring one home. You have the best of the bases covered with that spread Theo.

rolltide3's picture

That would be nice it's 19 miles one way to the closest gym to me

Theophany's picture

I replied to Pale brother Rolltide and it applies to you as well! I sincerely hopes this helps! :))

I like working out at weekends, no hurry, less visitors.

SenseiMiagi's picture

Friday evening is my favorite. Really slow in my gym, most folks prepping to party, but us old married with kid folk have no need for that nonsense lol. Like weekends as long as I get in there early...later in the day it gets the more tied down i get with kids and honey-do lists.

Pale's picture

Same here. It has to be first thing on the weekends. Come summer by 11 or 12 I need to find myself out on the water or on a ride..

SenseiMiagi's picture

You know thats right! If Im not doing activities with the family saturday afternoon in spring/summer I feel guilty. Priorities Smile

0600-0715hrs Mon-Fri. Wouldn't say it's my favourite time to go but it's the only time I can guarantee that nothing will get in the way & stop me going. Used to always train 1900-2030hrs in the early days.
