Six years clean today. ..... Wow kinda shocking to even think i could stay clean for days much less years... Sponsorship steps service.... Lots of really lousy coffee at really lousy restaurants.... I have seen people die from this disease that had alot more life to live than this old dog.... And had to ask myself why them and not me... Greatest thing i heard early on was..,. Just for today you never have to use again.... Thanks to all of you that put up with those newcomers!

I would like to drop in and say hello, I am 36 been clean since 2003. A little about this, I have used drugs since I was 14. Started of course with MJ then by the time I was 16 chemicals was introduced to me. I had close brushes here and there with pigs. But by the time I was 21 I climbed into a truck and run coast to coast.
Speed was my thing, crank, crystal, ice. I was heavily addicted at 23 couldn't stay awake for more than 4 hrs without it. I'm 6'2 and when the alphabet pigs got me I was hovering around 160 165. I decided it was time to make a change in my life.
I was run down I would puke or crap blood from not eating. Not to mention I was in trouble. But that was my old life it was a solid decision to turn myself around. I have never looked back. This hasn't been easy I've made sacrifices but gained a lot more. I would like to offer my hand to anyone who wants to talk. I don't go to AA I don't have a sponsor. I don't think those are bad by no means I just don't do that stuff. I will share anything with anyone who is interested what I been through what I have done to be successful thus far in life in being clean. I will help anyone who is struggling or wants change without prejudice.

vhman's picture

Thanks for sharing your story; and congratulations on getting and staying clean.

Thank you. Being clean and staying is possible it's hard to but is very possible. I greatly respect anyone who wants to take that step to a better life!

Ok I just found this and read through some of the stories and good things everyone posts. I have a little something to put out there myself. I rarely post on anything, just browse and take in what I read mostly, but this thread is something I can relate to. I've had my share of narcotics and other mood/mind altering substances in the past, including alcohol, so I am definitely experienced in this area. Not so experienced in the aas arena since I've only ran a couple of cycles just this year, which I definitely have to give this site a shoutout by the way because I would be completely lost without it since I've never done it before. Thanks eroids and all the knowledgeable people on here for every bit of info because I'd probably be fucked up listening to the people where I'm from tell me how to cycle "properly"! Anyways back to my initial story, I've used and abused all kinds of different stuff from pot to coke, meth, pills, alcohol, etc. Always gotten in some shit because of each one too. The end of 2011, I got popped for dealing (just weed) and put on 18 months probation for it 2012 (not too bad but not fun). Then just last Dec got a DWI and did a mandatory 30 days (not too long but still sucked) for it due to the fact that I was still on probation. Yeah I know, dumb as fuck right..... I realize that but I'm ok with it. Haven't had a drink since then. But here is the dilemma that I'm dealing with now. The thing is, I am a complete lush when it comes to drinking.....once I drink I won't stop and I'll do it everyday. I'm at the end of my probation term, literally getting off officially tomorrow the 23rd, and I have been feeling like I want to have a drink as soon as this ends......I don't want probation to be the primary reason I stopped drinking. I know I'm the one who controls the decisions that I make and will do what I want but I really want to hear from some of the members that have been through it or is going through on how they've managed and what helped. I take all advice and suggestions in consideration on everything because they can have an influence on what choices I will make on this matter. Even though we don't all know each other on a personal level, I think it all helps in some way. Thanks for reading this and sorry for posting such a long ass sob story. Dec 2nd 2012 was the last time I drank.

Hey man, I read something a while back regarding food but I've used it for my other, stronger cravings. In this moment, right now, this xxxxxx thing is the most important battle in the whole world. Shut everything out mentally and pick the best pro and the worst con, and live them out in your head. I have this battle when I want to take more of my painkillers than I'm prescribed and descend into that addict cycle and it works for me. It's an internal challenge: I imagine that old drill instructor who made you feel the shittiest and emulate that feeling and shame if I lose this internal struggle right now, with this single most important thing in the world.

Hud-Bomb84's picture

Thanks for the tips man. And you're very right about this being an internal battle. I think that's one of the things that's keeping my mentality focused right now. I think of what I have and worked my ass off for, then picture how easy it can all be taken away just because of a drink. I've worked really hard to keep myself from messing up and I know if I take that first drink it'll just build up from there. The people I used to keep around didn't help the cause either. So I had to part ways with them when I started seeing some of the fake come out in them. I can be easily influenced at times so I'm doing my best to avoid the things that have the potential to drag me back into that downward spiral again. Again, thanks for helpful words bro. I appreciate it fa real.

geneticfreak's picture

keep hittin the steel big guy its my only medicine to get me through all the bullshit

Hud-Bomb84's picture

Thanks bro! I agree 100% with you. So far so good. Best therapy I could ask for.

Bigman111's picture

I was in a similar boat, I used to drink a lot also, I would drink a lot when we went out, I would also drink a lot when I was pissed... Finally after going through a lot of related and unrelated things in my life, and talking to some good people I had around me I asked myself why. What good does it do me? A buddy once said to me the mind is the hardest thing to master, but once you can do that, you can do anything... So I started really thinking about what I wanted to get out of life and looking around at the different groups of people I kept around and always came back to asking myself why. Once I really commited myself to changing my way of thinking and having a more positive outlook on things, I know that sounds kinda corny but things got better. Now it's like a mission I set goals for myself weather it be in the gym at my job or in my family life and I go after them... It feels good when you get them too!! I know I'm rambling here but just ask yourself, what kind of person do I want to be, what's it going to take to get me there, set a goal or a couple for that matter and go after it, each step learn to identify the time burglars and the leaches that want to hold you back and adopt a your either with me or against me attitude, this will help to filter out the bullshit and keep like minded people in your corner. That's what's been working for me.. Learn what makes you tick... Good luck brother

Hud-Bomb84's picture

Hey man none of that sounded corny to me at all. It was some real truthful and experience related words in my eyes. Like I said, I put it out so I can get some advice and feedback on how to kick my urge. I live in a place where people like to be there when things are good but when you need help they're nowhere to be found. I'm sure it's like that anywhere so people are bound to relate to that. Again, I don't want getting out of some court ordered legal matter be the reason I go back into that lifestyle I was in. I want to stay on track with everything that I've been doing and not let anything bad like letting drinking take over again. Just need that extra reminder on why and just different advice other than what I get from "friends" that used to be around me. I've already separated myself from a lot of people that were only there when things were great but disappeared just because I couldn't do the things they were used to me doing so I think that's a big step in the right direction. I can be very gullible at times when it comes to "having fun" but it took some serious shit happening to open my eyes to all the fake and phony people I kept around. Thanks for the helpful tips brother. I always listen when it's something worth taking in.

Bigman111's picture

Anytime brother, trust me it gets easier as time goes on!! You will have bad days like anyone else just stay focused on the objective at hand and pound into your head that your better then that and focus on the good and good things will come to you!! Pm me if you ever want to talk about it, I can relate a lot to your situation

Xrated's picture

Well, dayumm. I haven't have a drink since February 21, 2013. Went to jail and rehab. Dont really miss it. But, here lately I've been scratching. Gonna spend Friday night at a meeting. Way better than the alternative !

So I've been clean for over 6 years (not including aas) I go to regular meetings but feel like I cheated on a girlfriend or something because a lot of people call aas a drug I haven't told any of them I do it, probably won't either. This has probably been discussed but do u guys think steroids are drugs I guess they don't get me high so that's why I haven't said anything or consider them a drug

vhman's picture

Agreed. Gear is not a mind and/or mood alerting substance. You may "feel" better on gear, but no one gets high on steroids. By that logic, any other non-mind altering drug (aspirin, cholesterol meds, etc.) would be considered "cheating". Don't sweat it.
On that point though, you can "abuse" steroids, but not using them wisely. Again, there are many other things you can abuse (food for one), that are destructive on your health. If you are using your gear and/or anything else you are taking into your body wisely, then you are improving your health.

ontime's picture

Cool yea was a little worried but I agree food or anything you abuse can become a drug and I'm doing everything as people recommend to me on here so I think I'm good, thanks

vhman's picture

Sounds like it. Don't stress about it and be confident in what you do. You'll do fine. Best of luck!

ontime's picture

Thanks brother

oversteerisbest's picture

I consider everything a drug: what differentiates is is it a drug that negatively affects your life and those around you and I think one crucial component for this is does it get you high? I have never considered stealing to buy steroids, I have never lost loved ones over steroids, and I could live without steroids. Some will argue that there is an addiction to steroids, and maybe there is a psychological dependence component, but I do not class it with the narcotics that many on here have abused/been addicted to etc.

ontime's picture

That's a good point thanks. Steroids deffinately don't affect my life negatively, I lost everything when I was out there using. I still have my family friends and possessions that I did before I started using steroids and didn't pawn one thing to get them either lol.

oversteerisbest's picture

Brother you just answered your own question

ontime's picture

Haha I guess I did thanks brother

Very good points as well!!

just switched from methadone to suboxone last week and plan to be off the subs in the next 2 months

Bigman111's picture

Good luck brother I was on for three years I had to get myself down to a little sliver a day, I was cutting the small enough to make one last about 5-7 days after my body got used to that which took about 4 days I was able to stop, it was uncomfortable at first but not to bad, I just had my mind made up that I was done!! I was put on pain killers from a bad accident and we know how that goes but my dr told me that subs would help me get off and be easier to quite.. I found out that that was bs after awhile, it was just another thing to be addicted to... Good luck to you and hope you find this to be helpful, if you really make your mind up you will have no problems, just takes some time..

my first 16 months I did 12 a week faithfully, worked the steps, started building my life and learning how to get through shit, as I got busier I dropped down to 5 or so a week and always 3 service positions. in the last year I have tapered down to a couple a week and dropped my last service commitment last month. But i sponsor men and stay connected in H&I anytime im needed. I only have one person that I talk to that isnt in recovery and thats my receiver.

speed4goal's picture

That's awesome congrats on being clean, I've been on suboxone for over two years now. The withdrawal from them is horrible for me. Im down to 3/4 of a strip from 3 a day. I go to 4 meetings a month and they are for people recovering on suboxone. Slowly but surely getting there. Was on opiates for 10 years before i found suboxone rehab
