+ 1 Quit Smoking
Hello,
I'll talk a bit about myself and smoking.
I have been smoking for over 10 years, soon to be 11.
Its a shitload of money and cigarettes that could be well spent on good food, gear and good supplements.
My issue is that i would love to quit smoking, never had the motivation until now.
It all came down to when i was thinking about me trying to live a healthy lifestyle, but the smoking was hindering me from doing it.
Now i have been smoking for 10 years and been lifting for around 9, i never felt that it has been an issue for me during this time, but now more recently i am seeing it more clearly, i am starting to get wrinkles in my face ( Age: 26 ) and i barely can get up the stairs without having to catch a breath.
And i am living the "healthy" lifestyle.
Now my question for today was how did you guys do it?
Is it all mentally and how long do you crave nicotine for?
What did you use to aid you in quitting to smoke?
I really appreciate all answers.
The reason why i am not going to quit cold turkey is the reason that i am personally mentally hooked to the cancersticks.
Just a ordinary topic that i would like to discuss, nothing more.
Thank you.

Been thinking about it myself. I've quit before so I know I can do it. Only about 10 a day so it shouldn't be too difficult.
My motivation is so I can eat more when I'm at work, I'd rather spend my intire break time eating, not having to schedule cigarette time would be an extra 1k cals or more.

I am not a chain smoker, I smoke very rarely. But I want to leave this habbit I know somking is bad. But I controlled some days but another day I can't resist myself to smoke. So eventually I don't quit smoking completely.
Never smoked a day in my life, but having seen what it did to my beautiful grandma in the matter of 1 year, I hope you find the motivation to quit.
I was smoking for 12 years then stopped (8 months now) Try go cold turkey for a week. after that its a walk in the park. That first day or two will be the hardest so get some gum or chew on some toothpicks and with some persistence you'll make it!
I put 24mg nicotine and test pop in my vape cig. Smoke the shit out of it. Smokeless nicotine oil and test. Hasn't killed me yet
bigwillythat's hard.
Hard in what way
bigwillyhard as in, bear hunting with a butter knife hard. theres a fella at my gym, every one knows em as big jimmy. at any time BJ will come in and squat 650 ish for reps. he will have a cup of ice and black berry brandy and a pk of Marlboro reds on the bench next to em. wont nobody say a god dam thing to em either. hard like that !!
That's Exactly what I pictured. Lol
Test prop in an e cig? Did I read that right?
You did. Lol. But I was kidding. Kinda. Don't try that shit. If you aren't positive what you have you might have something crystallize in your lungs
Ha ha.....I wont trust me
Moved to Off-Topic
I used to smoke twenty packs of cigarettes a day. Since I lost one of my lungs, it's cut my smoking in half!
I started smoking when I was 12. I quit at 20. But by 20 I picked up many other bad habits (weed, x, glass etc.) Weed was daily thing from 16yo till 20yo.
@ 19yo I joined a gym.
I was doing ok, but not making a progress like 19 year old should. Couple of OGs at the gym were asked me Wtf? I told them my story about drugs and smoking.
They told me to stop all that cold turkey and give 200% at the gym and my brain would rewire itself to expect that feeling of "good being" and "happiness/euphoria" after a good workout.
Guess what IT WORKED !
It took me about a month to stop craving a cigarette in the morning and about 3 months to stop craving in stressful situations.
P.S.
You say you've been training for nine years and you get winded going up the stairs. WTH ?
I know bunch of older guys who have been smoking for 30 years , who work out and can run a mile under 7 min.
I can too, when i go on strength alone and psycological endurance.
The issue is mainly occuring when i am not working out for some reason and it makes me sick.
It's not making you sick your brain just wants euphoria.
You probably get irritable too.
Next time you start feeling like that just go do anything physical. Even yard work will make you feel better. You will basically trade one addiction for another. In this case a much healthier one .
My friend and his girlfriend were alcoholics. They both joined a gym. 1 1/2 years later she is competing, his is still an alcoholic. Because he didn't have will power to stay clean for a month.
Yes that is correct, in fact i have been With out a smoke in 6 days now, still as annoyed and still as craving. During this period i have been craving for candy and thankfully i didnt succumb, just ate food instead.
Almost forgot.
DO NOT DRINK !!!!!!
Get Tyrosine ! Religiously take 500mg x 3 a day for next 6 months.
St. Johns Worth may help too with stress.
And never stop working out !
Now good luck broski
Thank you brother!
I used to rip butts, now i just chew
I dont think i have ever let it be known on here that i have been smoking since i was 14yrs old!..... never had a single thought about quitting i enjoy it so much..... and i must admit its a fkn life saver when deep into a contest prep diet.
How old are you now brother ?
54
Holy shit brother, you have been smoking for a long time!
I thought I was the only one lol
lol yeah........... trophy in one hand and a ciggie in the other!............. i aint no marathon runner bro and dont give a fuck what anybody thinks hahaha
I have now taken my first step to success.
Been 24 hours without cigarettes and i decided to go cold turkey.
I am literally sick and tired of cigarettes.
The reason is, when i was at the gym yesterday, i started to feel lightheaded while doing cardio,
then i started to get slight chokes and i got really dizzy, i had to run to the bathroom and throw up.
Not sure if it was the cigarettes but it sure as hell could not help.
I am through with this shit.
Time to take action.
I smoked from March 2003-Jan 22, 2009. I was forced to stop smoking. I tried a couple times after i had been away from cigs for a while, and i didnt like the way i felt. I still dont like the way cigs make me feel. So, i dont use them. I have tried EC and that oil makes my lungs too stiff and hurt, so i quit experimenting with EC. I like little small Cohiba's, which i have smoked lately and havent bought any more because i cant afford them and i know they arent good for me.
If you want to quit, its up to you. No one is forcing you to smoke. Endogenous catecholamine release, carbon monoxide and nicotine affect performane and wreak havoc on your body. The research is there. And, the terrible complications of people are proof that smoking cigarettes have a negative impact on living a healthly lifestyle.
You can do it!! The cigs arent going anywhere!! They will always be around. Make a difference, set some short-term goals, and GET OUTTA THE BOX!! Stop while you can and DONT SMOKE ANY CIGS for the NEXT THREE DAYS!!
I seen my wife's aunt who quit smoking 31 years ago. 2012 we watched her die a painful and slow death from emphysema. She stopped 30+ years ago and still died a miserable death. That scared the shit outta me bro. I used E cigarette with the 3 cartridges it came with. 7 days later the last cartridge was gone and so was my habit. That was December 7,2012. I haven't smoked one since. Good luck bro. It's only going to happen if you are serious.
i quit smoking only to start chewing.. i been chewing for few months and i already can see the damage it does to my gums..
Haha, i don't know how it is where you live but chewing damages the wallet aswell here.
I'm a recovered alcoholic and a former smoker that had a 3 pack a day habit. I got up around 5 AM, popped open my first beer and lit up. My skin got grey, my hair started to fall out, my eyeballs turned yellow and 3 rehabs did nothing for me. I was gonna die. I finally hit bottom and cried out to the God of my understanding for His help. I was serious. I was finished with the lifestyle. I put the beer can that was in my hand down on the coffee table with the 20 other empties and extinguished the half smoked cigarette that was in my hand. That was ten years ago on August 24th. I never looked back. Six months later I was back in the gym. Still there. When your done your done bro - but it's hard to be done. I was lucky. I got to that certain place in my mind where healing can begin. I went from sober BB to drop dead drunk and chain smoker in 2 years. I was your age. You can get better, I assure you that you can. They say you can't quit smoking and drinking at the same time. Nonsense.
Thank you for the great story, i appreciate that you opened up to me.
Made me believe that things aren't so bad nor hard after all.
Thank you!
Getting to that point of surrender is probably the hardest task you will ever undertake. And, no doubt has given you the strength of character you possess today.
TronIt's simple yet complex. I have never smoked nor have the desire to do so. However, i have had addiction problems in the past with alcohol as well as prescription pain killers. It's one of those things that you have to look in the mirror one day and decide what's more important.. your health or your addiction. you only have one body and if you work out and care for yourself your body will thank you and it will show in the mirror as well as the way you feel and the pride that carries with quitting an addiction.
Sounds really great, glad you made it!
Thanks!
its the triggers, things you usually did while smoking, that you gotta eliminate in order to quit for good.
ive "quit" i dunno how many times, for varying lengths of time. each time i stopped (talking maybe half pack a day for 6-8 months was probably the longest I smoked continuously, but the habit of stopping and starting again has gone on for several years). each time I stopped, i did it cold turkey and honestly, it wasn't tough at all, just not thinking about it was enough for me. so like in college id smoke throughout the semester and then stop over summer break for instance when i came home so my parents didn't know i was smoking and it really was a non issue. but then id come back to school and see my friends that smoked, or go out with some people to grab a few beers, or have a cup of coffee out on the porch (that was the big one for me, that and right after a workout on the way home, and driving in general), id start back up again because those were things I usually did or associated with smoking.
it really varies from person to person. some people have a really hard time not smoking for even a few days, some are like me that have a kinda moderate habit vs 1-2 pack a day smokers and for some reason just can't hold it down for an extended period of time due to triggers, mental things, whatever. but i think in quitting anything, eliminating things (or rather being aware of them, i don't mean to say stop doing them) associated with the activity is really important for long term success.
Yes, i Believe so too, my habits have denifinatly changed since i started studying and got myself a car.
At the start, i didn't smoke in my car and that could have been my opportunity to quit since i drive long ways to and back from school.
Now however, i smoke in my car and thats a big issue for me.
Other than that, i smoke one Before going to the gym and one after the workout.
These are the only patterns i have on smoking
All of us, whether or not we are warriors, have a cubic centimeter of chance that pops out in front of our eyes from time to time. The difference between an average man and a warrior is that the warrior is aware of this, and one of his tasks is to be alert, deliberately waiting, so that when his cubic centimeter pops out he has the necessary speed, the prowess, to pick it up.”
― Carlos Castaneda
I had a 2 pack a day habit. I focused on all the negative aspects of smoking. I.e., when an ember burned my clothes, I mentally highlighted it, when smoke burned my eyes, yellow teeth and fingers, small of the ash tray, running out of smokes and needing to go out for more. All highlighted in memory -after some time I truly hated smoking.
After several months, my friend made a disparaging, sarcastic, remark about my smoking just as I was lighting up. I took that as my "cubic centimeter of chance" and snuffed the cigarette out.
To the outside observer, it looked as if I quit cold turkey. in fact, I was preparing and waiting for that moment. I used the moment as a catalyst to quit.
Huh..I like that..hell of a way to look at it.
very good point, focusing in on all the things you hate about a bad habit to where it becomes a part of the way you think has always been a tremendous help for me.
I've also got a gymbuddy of mine that Always giving me the same remark.
Lighting up a cigarette after workout.
To be completely honest, mentally, i have been working out the same scenario.
At this point as of today, i hate cigarettes.
I took the opportunity to gather some motivation from fellow buddies from a kind forum.
We all share one common thing, a crave for the healthy lifestyle.
That is why i turned to this forum.
Hopefully, that glimpse of opportunity will come to me.
Until then, im going to first try visiting a dr. and hopefully get some chantix.
Or else i will get it the same way i get AAS, by ordering it from elsewhere.
Anyhow, i am glad you took that chance, best of luck to you, Greg and thank you!
Between me And my girl we spend close to $400 a month on cigarettes. I complain about it all the time but of course I never quit..I plan on seeing my doctor about chantix cause if I try cold turkey while on cycle I'll fckn kill somebody lol..I'm 27 and been smoking since I was 16, I just need to step up and quit..its all in the mind but man those little fckers have mind control over me..I once quit for two months and put on 14 lbs. So I would like to try again before the winter bulk where that extra 15 lbs will be needed. I feel ur pain bro its a struggle
15 lbs wouldn't hurt at all, i'm hope you'll make it brother.
Hope we all make it! Haha
And the crazy part is that I've always bitched about not gaining weight when the simple solution was to just quit smoking but that addiction part overrides the want to gain
So it does hinder gains ?
I'm not 100% sure but it may..its 15 lbs that I could of been turning into lean muscle if the weight were there..but since it isn't I have to eat that much more and work that much harder to gain weight to build into muscle
I could need those gains haha
