+ 1 Quit Smoking

ad

Hello,
I'll talk a bit about myself and smoking.

I have been smoking for over 10 years, soon to be 11.
Its a shitload of money and cigarettes that could be well spent on good food, gear and good supplements.

My issue is that i would love to quit smoking, never had the motivation until now.
It all came down to when i was thinking about me trying to live a healthy lifestyle, but the smoking was hindering me from doing it.

Now i have been smoking for 10 years and been lifting for around 9, i never felt that it has been an issue for me during this time, but now more recently i am seeing it more clearly, i am starting to get wrinkles in my face ( Age: 26 ) and i barely can get up the stairs without having to catch a breath.
And i am living the "healthy" lifestyle.

Now my question for today was how did you guys do it?
Is it all mentally and how long do you crave nicotine for?
What did you use to aid you in quitting to smoke?

I really appreciate all answers.
The reason why i am not going to quit cold turkey is the reason that i am personally mentally hooked to the cancersticks.
Just a ordinary topic that i would like to discuss, nothing more.

Thank you.
Twana

The cravings kill me, turns me into a psychopathic maniac with anger issues ( the cravings give me the anger issues. ) I've tried spray once and i found it worked, but i didn't get it for quitting purposes i took it on cycle when being in the gym for long sessions.
Gave me some messed up hiccups as a side and after a 2-3 weeks usage i quit because i got that side effect every time that i used it.
The other side effect was that it is incredibly expensive where i live.
Thank you brother, good luck to you too!

I quit cigs because they were killing my throat. Then I did electric cigarettes for about a year! Electric cigs were more addictive for me than regular cigs, I would smoke on them even more. Then they were starting to bother my throat too and eventually I quit!! The first 3 weeks it was Very hard to quit and after that it became easy. It's more of a hand to mouth thing that takes a while to break.

I feel you brother, even now sitting on my computer i am having issues taking a deep breath.
I really don't fancy electric cigarettes as there was some dude whos face caught fire by one exploding electric cigarette.
When did you feel that it became easier ?

At around 3-4 weeks your body will break the habit. I prolly wouldnt have quit if my throat wasnt bothering me.Trust me, I know because I was there and here's my past post! Ever since this post, I never picked it up again!!.This is when I quit, heres my story http://www.eroids.com/forum/general/off-topic/nicotine-fixations

I'm glad you did it brother, less time off your cigarettes equals eventually more time with your kid(s) and wife.
You have given me a motivation seeing that someone has had the same issues as me, quit cold turkey. I know that this is not uncommon but it feels better knowing when this was a direct discussion.
The 3-4 week thingy sounds horrible to be honest but what you gotta do, i curse the man that invented these things and i curse the man giving it to the children like they did to me.

Thank you for the cool story bro!

Interesting bit of historical science here regarding nicotine for you. If you take a rat and wire an IV line into it and connect it to a pressure pad, the rat learns that it gets a hit of whatever is in the IV line every time it steps on the pad. With pretty much any drug / stimulant, the rat quickly learns to repeatedly hit the pressure pad until, in most cases, it overdoses. Heroin, cocaine, amphetamines, caffeine, alcohol, you name it. It learns it feels nice when it hits the pad, so it does it again and again, often to the point of death by OD.

Carried out many times in different environments, when the stimulant is replaced with Nicotine, the rat hits it once and doesn't touch it again, EVER. What does that tell you about Nicotine?

Ha..that's cool..I've heard about the drug experiments with rats overdosing but never heard of the nicotine one.

I quit about 2 weeks ago. Used chantix. It definitely made it alot easier but still not easy. It basically eliminates the physically cravings but thats only half the addiction. It took me about 3 weeks on chantix to finally quit. Its been getting easier each day. Like you i like a "healthy" lifestyle but I I'm out of breath walking up stairs. If you smoke your not living a healthy lifestyle your probably better off not working out and eating healthy but not smoking cigs either. I bet you thats healthier then smoking but working out and eating healthy. I feel so much better since quitting and its only been 2 weeks I'm sure its only gonna get better.

Many people has been tipping me off to champix.
In my country, you need prescription to get some of that sweet stuff.
I might order some from the states or ask my mother for a prescription but i doubt i will get one lol.
Thank you for the great reply brother!

I quit to show somebody else it could be done as they where struggling.

pick up some jolly ranchers or sun flower seeds they will help when you want to smoke.

dont drink coffee or beer for a while if you can avoid it they are triggers for a while.

been about 5 years and I still crave once in a while.

Loco-T's picture

I will definitely try that, thank you for the sweet tips.
I don't drink coffee or alcohol at all anyway, so that shouldn't be a problem for me.
Great job being a motivation for that someone!

So true I'm scared to drink beer right now since I'm only 2 weeks off cigs. Coffes not to bad but i do miss a coffee and a cigarette.

Thank you, brother. I will read further into it and i will see what program fits me the most.

K, ive quit smoking a couple of times, and had to quit chewing once. Gum worked for quitting chewing, mainly because theyre pretty similar. I went cold turkey from cigs which wasnt too bad because i was ready to quit then. The second time i used the patch. It wasnt too bad then either. My gf switched to vapeing about 1.5 yrs ago, and even though shes still addicted to nicotine, she feels much better than when she was a smoker.

Cool man, thanks.
I've been smoking so long (in my opinion) that i have forgot how it feels like being smoke-free.
How do you feel?

ReadyToKillIt's picture

Incredible bro it's been over a year and a half. It's the best I've ever felt.

Loco-T's picture

No idea where to get that and it a prescription drug where i live brother.
I will definitely look further into it, thanks!
