Punching bag

ad

Anyone else use one?
I think it's a great source of cardio for larger bodybuilders.
Also will build your delts in an amazing way ( sure did for me ).
And will help if you ever have to beat someones ass? Biggrin
My hand speed from using a heavy bag regularly was incredible even at around 220.
Last time I used one was maybe 2 years ago so I notice a BIG difference in my swinging speed.

Lol, if it makes you feel better i'd let you take a swing! Just keep in mind, you can't work that chin out! You got it or you don't! Lova ya kid

You will NEVER hit 23" arms hitting a bag for 30 minutes a day.
Aint gonna happen. I had 18" arms 8 YEARS before you were even born---just under 20" now---at a height of 5'6" tall, and trust me young Bro...I had to give up basketball to get the other 2"..., which I HATED, but had to be done.
So here you are at 6" with 20s???? That's small by BB standards...very small. I'm not bustin' on you, I'm just trying to save you some time---would LOVE to see you get those 23s....But you gotta leave that cross-fit shit alone Bro....:)

There ya go Bro..... Pick what you know you're going to be great at and do it.
At your age, you got the world wide open.

7gothic's picture

Still small....Lee Preist packs 22" arms at 5'3"...not saying you have to be like Lee, but 20" arms won't win you an amature title these days.
Shit has gotten completely out of hand in my opinion---and remember, most BBs are now using synthol as well.
Glad I'm just out for cosmetics now...lol

C'mon brotha, you didn't take offense I hope. U know me better than that. And I don't underestimate anyone, ever!

There is no cardio that compares to Boxing/MMA training. Lace up some glove and throw punches/kicks for 60 seconds straight and we'll see what kind of shape you're in! I spent 20 years boxing, it's a totally different animal! I would suggest someone using a heavy bag as well as a speed bag for cardio. 45-60 spurts of non stop punching followed by 1 minute rest and repeat. Incredible cardio. Spee bag is a great upper body warm up/ stretch prior to lifting although that takes practice.
When I was training to fight full time I never touched weights. I have low bf and any new muscle growth can take away from hand speed and reach/flexibility. I have never seen a bodybuilder use boxing tactics for cardio but I would love to see it, lol!

7gothic's picture

Yep...boxing/MMA traning....speed bag (or heavy) is some of the best cardio you can do.....but no pro-level Bodybuilder would dare to do that on a regular basis.
Swole says he wants 23 inch arms----aint gonna happen if he's hittin a bag....in fact, if he does it often, he will lose size. Need to let those arms rest until blast time again. Fighters and BBs are completely different athletes. I see the fighters at my gym and I think..."Damn, those dudes do some serious shit"....Then of course, they look over at us in the weight pit and think...."Damn...those dudes lift some serious weight".

Nitti's picture

100% true. Same way BBers won't train with boxing, boxers don't use weights unless theyre moving up in weight. It is brutal on the body and yes they would lose size. DT is a huge young buck. 20 seconds of hitting the bag he'd be on the floor, lol. Love ya DT. no homo.

7gothic's picture

LOL...I saw a video of Kai Green (pro BB) in a ring doing some shadow boxing---slowest shit I ever seen in my life.
The MMA guys at my gym are BIG TIME core guys.

7gothic's picture

Most BBs would probably ride a motorized wheelchair if they could take the ridicule.
Only do cardio during contest prep----100% of energy and recovery devoted to muscle growth

Nitti's picture

This is exactly why I stopped boxing completely. To devote all my time and energy to BBing! The two don't mesh well. Although for the guys with higher BF who need to cut down, these tactics would be great. Any fight training would help. Mix in some calisthenics and Plyometrics and you'll drop bf in no time

7gothic's picture

If you're on a quest for 23s, you can forget about it if you're hitting a bag, playing basketball, or any other high-repetitious activity that depletes glycogen from the muscles.
Most BBs won't even think of doing any cardio at all most of the season.

a street fight is a street fight so it dont matter how u win via hands legs elbows whatever as long as u win thats my theory

yeah man ive been hitting the bag since i was 13 it is a great shoulder work out if u trying to get your speed up more give the speed bag a chance and watch how bad your shoulders burn helps your reflexes alot also
