https://www.ifbb.com/2017/09/ifbb-official-notice/

Can someone who knows more about what happened here explain to me why this happened and what it means I don't compete but I imagine this is a big deal
Thanks

I'm sure we are all in the know by now on this topic but here is a quick recap of what I do know down to final completion of the drama.

IFBB will only accept the International Amateur "pro qualifiers" through till the end of 2017 for IFBB pro league status.

As of 2018 only NPC (in the USA) and the remaining affiliates in each country (ie: CBBF Canada) will be accepted regarding the athletes who turn PRO to compete in the IFBB Pro League.

From my understanding because Jim Manion owns the North Americans it will now become an NPC sanctioned Pro Qualifier rather than considered an International Pro Qualifier.

The other IFBB International Pro Qualifiers that are no longer in affiliated with the NPC/IFBB Pro League are proposing (may have already) to create its own IFBB Elite League of which I assume will allow pro competition?!?

I would love to know how this effects international athletes ie: Canada in regards to competing in the NPC in general.

It would be great if the NPC would allow Canadian athletes to qualify either in their home country of Canada or in the USA and after qualifying for Nationals, being allowed to compete for their PRO CARD by competing in any of the USA National events regardless of citizenship.

There are many who reside in the USA legally either under work visas and or even green card (permanent residents) who do not seek US Citizenship do to personal or business reasons that are left in limbo because of the current requirements.

*Why would a Canadian Athlete be allowed to compete and qualify for Nationals without permission from the CBBF but then have to require a permission letter from the CBBF to compete at Nationals to turn Pro?!?

The possibility of politics (questioning why didn't you go back home to qualify in Canada instead) for an athlete who resides in the USA to have to undergo this senseless paperwork when it is more cost effective/convenient (albeit usually against tougher competition in the USA too) to compete in the NPC with more access to shows is sad.*

If anyone knows more on whether the NPC is now opening its doors to allow both American and Canadian athletes the right to compete "when qualified" for any National Level show to test themselves for a Pro Card would be appreciated.

It was actually c4bds that gave me this link and I figured I would bring it here and get some more information for her because she also competes and everyone is freaking out about the upcoming shows.
I saw a tweet that the guy in charge of the ifbb in the usa said that all events are still on and he would release a formal statement soon. Im waiting for that so we can really know what is going to happen now.

Will npc events be cancelled? I'm competing in 4 weeks...

Hope it doesn't effect this year. I have a show in 4 weeks that my body has been through hell for

I do believe it had to do with the judges used at the particular NPC show that happened this past week.

The International shows require IFBB International experienced judges however the NPC (not sure if it was the promoter or not) decided to not follow those rules and use only NPC judges.

Outside of not following protocol this can of course open up serious bias when judging (please save us from the "all judges do so fairly schtick" as we know this is not 100% true) a show that has athletes from many nations.

The requirement for international level judges is a necessity that was simply not met.

I've heard that this is not to be confused with and/or will not cause any issues with any of the National Shows left for this year in the USA.

That is the short version of what I was informed of.

Pale's picture

Thanks for clearing that up, this makes sense to me.

exoticnfit's picture

My pleasure Pale.

Just looking to do my part and share some valuable intel when it crosses my path.

Have a few friends and possibly a couple athletes (if they decide to stop talking and start walking) looking to do the Nationals in Miami in 8 weeks as well as some NQ's.

I'm hopeful for all those looking to compete that this truly doesn't interrupt the rest of the season.

This kind of thing can really damage the reputation of an organization especially when JUDGING is the reason for concerns.

God willing, it will all get sorted at all the levels both in the USA and Internationally so we as athletes can just show up and know we are being judged fairly.

Be safe and train for PURPOSE!

Edit Update: you can go directly to the npcnewsonline.com website and find the letters that have been written with detailed info. Have to admit it can be a confusing read and opens more questions than answers.

The most recent letter can viewed and takes a little bit to upload for some reason but it has official letterhad etc.*

I appreciate that brother very informative
Thanks for the feedback

exoticnfit's picture

My pleasure...this info showed up (the original letters that were sent) on my phone not long ago and I was thinking WTF?

Another info notice came in the form of a letter stating the second part which went over how the "Jim Manions NPC and IFBB" will not be affected by this and that the shows remaining in 2017 were still a go.

Obviously with Nationals especially coming up in November...there are several athletes who are 8weeks out and would be very upset much less some of the National Qualifiers as well.

I cannot speak on behalf of the NPC or IFBB but this is what was shared in those letters.

It sounds like someone is going to have "sum esplain'n todo" but allowing this to shut down the remaining USA shows would be a YUUUGE blunder considering the newer options athletes have elsewhere etc.

The timing would be very poor to do something like that.

If any more notices pop on my phone for it or if I hear from any reliable resources that anything has changed I will jump on asap to share.

Be safe and train for PURPOSE!

Thanks brother a couple of other members that compete at npc level i know have been freaking out. Your information and that link i gave them because I honestly didn't know where to look to find the real news instead of Internet bs news.

I like your saying train for purpose

Good luck and good gains is mine lol

exoticnfit's picture

Just happy to share some helpful info (plenty of it on here already all over) rather than just selfie pics. LOL

Yes, I am still making some added inquiries to find out what is meant 100% regarding the other shows.

One of the biggest challenges athletes face is being allowed to compete in any NPC Pro Qualifier and without having "paperwork" needed from home countries of birth.

Many are legal permanent residents with green card living for many years in the USA and have the same Rights as Citizens with the only exception of voting.

...along with not being considered to do PQ after being allowed to do NQ and taking an overall much less just placing.

When someone makes the big leap to live and love a country and gets their LEGAL paperwork to remain here and contribute it makes sense that they be accepted as much as possible.

Becoming a citizen requires X-amount of years (when doing so legally and without refugee status) to qualify and be allowed to apply much less also recognizing some of the financial reasons why citizenship is not preferred but continued payment and qualification every 10yrs to maintain their Green-Card.

I just wish the NPC would recognize that so athletes do not have to go home just to either re-qualify (due to BS politics in home country) or have to pro-qualify back home instead.

Many of the best athletes are HERE in the USA and if we are allowed to compete and are proving very worthy in NQ in the NPC we should also be able to compete in any/all NPC pro qualifiers too.

Being left in limbo to hope your home country is willing to give the paperwork necessary or being forced to consider citizenship (which in most cases will take 12-14mths due to delays) when it may not be beneficial for all other circumstances is really sad.

I've recently heard that a female athlete had these issues and was somehow "allowed" to compete for her pro-card or directly admitted into what I believe was Bikini...so it is very confusing as she was just interviewed and that came out.

Not sure why some athletes would be given this special option while others are forced to play by the current rules that really need to be updated to include Legal Permanent Residents in the same light as Citizens.

Most of us would have no issue competing on behalf of the USA once turned Pro since that is where it was earned!!!

End of rant. LOL

Train for PURPOSE!!!

^^^^ a requirement as so many just train without focus.

Good link it gives me more information than I had i wish I could know if its just about them not having international cards.
I have heard rumors about a political type of motivation with the npc judges. Not govt but internal.
