Not your typical "flying with gear" question

OK, we all know that if you're gonna fly with it you should add it with your bathroom shit and check your bag...duh. But here's my question...I'm gonna be flying and I'm gonna be bringing my pistol with me. It's gotta be in a locked case in a checked bag blah blah...anyone ever flown like this? Will they open my bag and search everything since I gotta tell them about the gun being in there and all that...?

I would mail it. If you dont have a address to mail it too you can but it in a duffel bag with a bunch of crap and put it on a greyhound buss. you get to where your going and go pick up the shit from grey hound.Cost a lot. I sent shit to a friend years ago doing this

What I usually do is take an empty sterilized vial and take off the metal ring, just leaving the rubber top. Then put the exact amount of oil needed for the cycle during the trip. Then just place the vial in my pocket or underwear while passing security. Since there is no metal, you will pass security easily.
Flying with a gun and gear is just a bad idea. They pay EXTRA special attention to your bag if you are declaring a weapon .
That being said I've flown with my handgun many times and never once have they asked to insect it after I tell them I'm declaring an unloaded, locked weapon in my luggage, BUT once i get to my destination and open up my bag I ALWAYS have a card in there that says my bag was opened and inspected by TSA.
To answer another thing people have been saying, the gun SHOULD'T be in issue if you get caught. It would be a little hard for them to try and claim the gun was used in the commission of a crime being that the weapon was unloaded and locked in a container separate from your gear and you were legally transporting it in compliance with TSA policies.

Wardi77Yea they make you open up the case, and they make sure its not loaded. To avoid any issues, print out a copy of the airlines policies and guidelines concerning transportation of a firearm. Flying domestic with firearms is a breeze, but international flights are a different story. Get ahold of the authorities in all destination countries for their regulations and policies if you are flying internationally. Key phrases that will get you far are "I'm declaring unloaded firearms with less than 5 kilos of ammo in the original factory boxes"

Wardi77well then, as long as the gun is legitimate, and you declare it and use the phrase I previously mentioned, you will have no problem. By using that phrase, you will be speaking in terminologies that TSA attendants are familiar with and they will assume you have been through that situation before and will not give you a hard time at all. Believe me, I have been there more times than I can count.

AnonWhen I few with a weapon most of the time they had me open the case and they inspected the weapon. Made sure it wasn't loaded and so forth. I personally wouldn't add anything to the gun case that I wouldnt want seen.
