Martial Arts
Some of you know a little about my sporting background. You know about how when I started in the world of PED's, these methods you use for bodybuilding were completely alien to me. I've successfully run orthodox and unorthodox cycles and for the most part, I always achieve the goal I'm seeking. Well I recently got hurled into a situation that made me realize being able to move and strike effectively isn't enough anymore unless you run into someone with no training at all. Then it's almost pathetically one sided. So I am going to start training to learn a martial art. I don't know if I want to go in on mma since there are a hand full of disciplines to be learned and I think that is going to take away from the skill set of each individual craft. So you'd essentially be a jack of all trades and master of none. I don't want that. So here's the point ,...what do you study? How do you feel it compares to other crafts? What is the most practical art in real world scenarios? Muay Thai? Judo? BJJ? Maybe Akido? I want to hear from ppl who have experience , not just opinions. My opinion is being strong as fuck, Muay Thai is the move. If anyone gets close enough that they want to grapple, they will be sorry they got that close. Then again if you aren't the strongest guy, BJJ or Akido both teach you to move and use momentum against a person. I don't know. I just know not too many ppl are willing to stand toe to toe and trade punches so I'm looking to improve my game.

So some wrestler/BJJ/MMA guy put you on your ass ? And now you realize boxing is played out? Welcome home friend! lol
Martial arts have been able to stand up to all the experiments. They are obviously psychologically and actually beneficial.
AnonBeing as how I have two black belts one in karate and the other muay tai I have used my tai skills in more fights than I can count. When the extension of an arm or leg is to long a good elbow and knee ALWAYS gets the job done better.
AnonReally like the responses on this thread. Read it yesterday when you first posted but never replied because I don't have first hand experience and you weren't really looking for just an opinion. Glad the majority are telling you to go with BJJ because no matter how strong you may be these guys are masters of taking you down and once your down you better know how to defend yourself... (Opinion yes but I watch a lot of ufc and mma and this is usually how it goes)
Running... Running is a good art form.
...and wit.

Anonso what do you think Nitti
Tron(quick background on me.. Second stripe brown belt in karate, competed in 3 full contact tournaments, blue belt in jiu jitsu under the Gracie system and athlete all my life, Not a whole lot to brag about but the point is Iv'e got some overall experience) .... So From what I remember Nitti you were a boxer and I still believe you practice the science. If you go with Muay Thai and only that It's still only going to help you in your stand up and YES you may be very strong but let's say you run across some college wrestler in a bar that's been wrestling since he was a kid YES you may be very strong but have you ever had a good wrestler try to take you down??? SHIT! it's like having a damn chimp on you lol.. However, if you go to youtube and type in jiu jitsu vs wrestling and watch you will see almost every single time a fairly novice jiu jitsu practicioner able to pull a submission off on the wrestler or just simply sweep and reverse the wrestler from guard position to offensive mount or offensive open guard position. You can punch already brother and if you are not going into competition then even the most basic jiu jitsu techniques can at least defend you on the ground and if your on your back get you in a top position where you can rain some punches down and or get back on your feet. Jiu jitsu is "polished" street fighting and that is my suggestion to you. go with a "no gi" school if you can or like a combat jiu jitsu school in which they practice more street fight type scenerios.
Rustyhooker^^^^^^bingo! I started training my youngest in wrestling and kickboxing as soon as he could run. He was going to nationals in wrestling before Jr high. 8th grade he started jitsu, and just finished season in wrestling top 20 in state. I'm too short for boxing but as a bouncer it was all ground work. Football jocks often got a big suprise. Lol
A EllisI have a image of a a guy shaking you off his ankles.
TronI'll bet they did if you were a wrestler yourself bro.. I would say 100 percent that wrestling is the best base to have if you go into mma
RustyhookerWrestling came natural. To short for that stand up duck n weave. Take one and get to the ground. At one time I was doing 225 single arm rows, so yes its all ground for me.
TronDamn! Yeah, I'm sure you've slam dunked a few guys on their heads before with power like that lol!
Lmao your not kidding about an elite wrestle feels like a chimp on u. The best wrestler I ever rolled with was an all American. I'll let u guess who won that match lmao
Tronlol.. it's a whole different kind of strength bro!
The funniest thing was my buddy thought he was all bad and he was roughly 200 pounds and this little guy think he walked around like 145. Well the guy was a wrestler and said he would wrestle him with one hand behind his back.he took my buddy down in a second and had him mounted and rode him like a bull all with one hand behind his back till my buddy gave up lmao. My cousin used to live with a college wrestling team good times
Trondaaaamn! one hand behind his back lol! It doesn't surprise me one bit. My theory is if you didn't learn to wrestle at an early age and you are 30ish just take up jiu jitsu so when a wrestler takes you down you can defend yourself and feel comfortable on your back because you ARE going to end up on your back whether you like it or not lol!
Well my buddy never trained or anything he just went with me to go to a college town and party lol. He thought he was tough till that little dude completely dominated him lol. Made my whole trip
Where you already have a good stand up game. I think BJJ would be a stronger compliment.
That ground game is what hurts most good stand up fighters. This is why you see almost all wrestlers at the top in the ufc. These guys have likely been wrestling competitively for 20-30 years with 50-100 matches each season.
You just won't be able to get that kind of ground time anywhere.
Imagine you as a boxer having fifty fights every year since you were five. No regular guy is going to stand with you. Might be the case already.
So get a ground game, learn a strong takedown defense, and then hit the Muay Thai.
Honestly if you can find a well trained MMA teacher that is the way to go but good luck finding a good one. Between kung FU Kickboxing and MMA I learned a lot. I will do anything not to hit the ground so I want to end it fast either knock them out or break something. I had a problem of loving to fight when I was younger. I like the grappling, boxing, kick boxing combination which is why I prefer MMA. The shit gets in your head and it's a reaction before you can think.
Anon50 percent of my fights were knock outs the other half submissions..... The wins that is
And yes it does get in your head and becomes natural
StevebDid BJJ for a really long time. I liked Sambo better because it taught a lot of Judo type throws that are very practical on the street. But Sambo schools are very rare. A good MMA school will be a better choice because you will learn everything and save money.
AnonI can agree with that... I've trained in Muay Thai and karate, and others.... But I like bjj the most
DeathstrokeShop around find what you connect with or what clicks.
i went to started at a kickboxing school then mma school found that i enjoyed the grappling portion of the training found a bjj school started competing.
you may like muay thai but inside judo may be your thing dont know until you try.
AnonMy wife is aikido she's a badass
I'm bjj
Bjj is gonna teach you to defend yourself on the ground Nitti as you know many fights end up there
I'm well versed in it with heavy hands
I love it
Agreed with below. Fights go to the ground a lot. Personally I hate fighting so I wanted something that would help me end it as quickly as possible Should that unfortunate event happen.
Krav maga and BJJ and judo.
most fights u get Into end up on the ground at one point. Unless both guys are equal in there wrestling and take down defense. So having a ground game with your boxing would give u a shot no matter where the fight ended up imo it's bjj. Just an example one of the best guys in the world in striking is Anderson spider Silva. Most guys he can dominate without getting taken down but u have a superior wrestler that can close the gap like chael sonnen. Well spider loses those fights except he has amazing bjj. Not only could u knock someone out on your feet u could choke them the Fuck out or rip off there arm and hand it to them lol. That's a dangerous combo
RustyhookerMuai would fit closer to your boxing experience. Would come around more naturally.
What is it you want to accomplish?
