Let’s just say I hope most sources ship by stork and not by whale.
I was in a union in Nj but then I moved to Florida. Florida fucks their construction workers over so hard. I think I am going to move back. All my old friends and family are in different unions. Electrians, boilermakers, sheet metal, plumbers, laborers. We busted our asses in all different trades, no union I ever worked in was an easy ride. We always worked hard af.
I believe this a whole lot more than anything I’ve seen on the news, thanks for the input
He said in NYC alone about 3000 positions will be lost to automation. IDK about any other ports. But wouldn't surprise me if it's all the same deal.
That’s 3,000 livelihoods, families. I’m all for improving things, but not at those costs. The only people saying that certain technologies that replace humans for efficiency and increased profits, are people whose jobs aren’t affected by it. Their tune will change if AI progresses to the point to where they’re not needed either.
I dont disagree. But i don't think it's as simple as greedy business owners want more money. Obviously they do. But they also want to stay in business and keep giving jobs to those willing to do them. A bunch of those jobs about to be lost aren't even filled currently. We have a generation or 2 of whiney little school girls who run from hard work like it's the plague.
I work at a small family business. We employ a dozen people. I'm all for bringing in new tech that will help things be more efficient. But the main priority is to continue to allow the guys here to make a decent living. But you can't do that if the doors close.
I feel that the unions set the bar for the non union workers. What they’re doing is very important in my opinion. It may make things uncomfortable, but in the long run they’ll be setting a bar yet again. Higher wages and a ban on automation? I’m on board with that. There’s ways to take this country back without rifles, but not many are willing to do it.
I agree. The blue collar working for a living person (myself) is getting absolutely spit roasted.
