How do you handle people approaching you at the gym?

ad

serious question. I'm new to the ped lifestyle...a LONG way away from being recognized. But I'm curious how some of you handle the random gym guy approaching you for an impromptu Q&A session about "How did you get so big, bro?" What kinds of questions do they ask? How do you react? Does it bother you to talk about using gear with people at the gym? Are there any risks in doing so?
For me...probably since I'm new to it, I might be tempted to entertain some of these questions, probably because its new and exciting...and I don't really have anyone to talk to about it. The wife thinks I'm out of my mind.
So how does it go? I'm genuinely curious.

As long as they don't ask me "how much ya bench brah" or "can you spot me curling in the squat rack", I'm pretty much fine with a little chit chat. The douche waffles who think I need an unsolicited spot are lucky I don't chuck a 45 at their head.

Im more a "hello" and "goodbye" kind of person. I train and leave asap.

I always listen to music on my earphones which serve well as a "do not disturb" sign too.

But if someone asks for help, im always happy to help. Nobody teached me anything when i started, so i feel good helping others. But chatting? No, not even between sets, not my thing.

I have paranoid schizophrenia I'm usually talking to myself and dont get approached by anyone, but I've found a lot of people very narrow minded so to be honest I couldn't give a shit.

Great answers below! lol Gotta love it (No Homo)

Greg's picture

There should probably be a "no homo" there somewhere.

Edit: Never mind. I may have been wrong...

vhman's picture

No, you're correct. Anything involving references to man-tights requires a "no homo".

But, he might actually be gay...

Bore them with your diet. They usually lose interest
And leave.. they only want to hear about steroids so talk diet and they get mad

We're in the same boat. We all have goals that we want to reach. So I talk to them normal. Being big or small really don't matter to me. So yes respectfully.

I shoot them. Then call the cops to tell them I found an intruder in my house.

There was a time when we didn't discuss this part of the life openly. We hardly talked among ourselves about it. Who was, and was not, taking what was a subject many wondered about but few knew the answer for. In many ways I'd like to see that aspect of that time return. I'm not sure that the volume of online "information" being shared now has increased knowledge and lessened learning curves due to the percentage of that information being no more than opinion. It seems the more experienced lifters are the more quiet ones, and those with a few days checked off the calendar have much to offer. Furthermore, I'm convinced we are surely contributing to our own demise at the hands of law enforcement. The perception that some things are readily available draws the attention of those who would like to see such availability suppressed.
As for talkers at the gym. I keep to myself, with my headphones on, and do not join in conversations or appear interested. In fact, I am there to train and go. Interruptions such as those mess with intensity. I would never talk about what's discussed here with someone I don't know.

I like your ear buds comment. I forgot mine last week on arm day and was asked my 3 different 20 somethings about steroids. If I take them? No. If I ever took them? No. If I know where to get them? No. It kind of fucked up my workout. I will never forget my earbuds again. I had no idea how helpful they at keeping unwanted conversations from interrupting my workouts.

However, if we emphasize diet, exercise, discipline, and hard work, then the mystique and misconception that steroid use is the silver bullet. Then, I think you might just see the deaminization of its use subside a bit.

Hmm, I plussed you and it did not register a while back. Ill do it again because the truth is always needed.

I don't talk shop with people that I just meet. 5+ years of friendship or I know they are involved with some other type of ' Business '.

Personally I just show people 1,000 photos of food preparation and my diet plan. Explain that it's 90% of it

Steroids brah, you want some?

zeb0312's picture

I don't talk gear to anyone I know or meet other than here......

You never know who you're going to meet and the gym. You're better off the less people know the less they can spread shit, then that's when it becomes everone knows.....

To me its not worth it to either party because your actions should tell how you got like you are and that's hard work they should see you working your ass off in the gym

Simple. Head butt them. Call them twiggies.

And as a a forum god I am going to give you a chance to fix your stats. An accurate description helps all of us to see where you are on your journey. Also put up a faceless pic so we can judge how serious you are. If you do none of this you will get no assistance from us.

And I had written such a witty response at first and then saw that stats. I feel robbed :-p.

Yo at 79 years old I would be worrying about staying alive as long as possible not starting to take steroids and worrying about what random gym rats may think or say.
