Freezing GYM memberships
ad
Hey guys & gals... A lot of us are on auto pay for our gym memberships! Well.... I don't know about you, but I don't definitely don't want to pay for a membership if I can't even get into the gym. Just wanted to remind you; who knows how long this is going to last! To freeze or change your auto-pay soo the Gym's can't keep charging you the next two months during this Corona time. I just took my membership off auto pay & and recommend you all to do the same. As soon as the gyms open then you could update your payment info. Good luck & save your money!

I belong to a fantastic gym.!owned by a powerlifter. Everybody knows everybody and they have a big dog that he brings in sometimes. It has that home feel. The same dedicated people have been going there for years. It does very well. I would hate to see it go under and some big chain take it over that doesn’t care about you. when my wife takes the truck shopping while I go to the gym he offers me a ride home. I just pay my bill and I bet almost everybody else does still too. There isn’t many gyms like this around. It really has that home feeling there. Good energy too.
My gym owner actually cut the rates for the month. From $50 to $10. I had no idea and actually checked out of curiosity when I saw this thread. Dude is a super nice guy w/a great little family who trains right along side of all of us. Ive been training there for years and had zero issue paying for the month, frankly. Mortgage, wages, and general overhead can catch up w/a small business owner pretty quick. But apparently he did the math and balanced what he needed w/the lack of service. Good on him.
Ive got the money, so im happy to support my local gym!
I think its a real dick move to stop paying your gym fee's right now. Most gyms already struggle financially and your going to see some go out of business and never reopen. Don't kick them while they are already down.
Golds gym announced they are closing more than 30 locations permanently so far here in US. Its already started. They cant sustain to reopen
Really - it's hit them that hard already? You'd think someone like Golds would have a surplus to fall back on so that just shows how high the rents are that they must have to pay. Very sad .....
They are very expensive franchises
I hope they give my monthly membership to the out of work employees instead of to the owners.
By letting them keep the fees will give the owners the opportunity to give their employees a paid leave. Pay it forward. And to be clear i am no way taking away from BJ's post but the Gyms are not the ememy. They are our escape from the our hectic lives, our antidepressant and we also joined because we liked them for some reason. But i am blessed enough to work in healthcare so my financial situation may be different from the next guy. I am not judging what the next guy wants to do with his autopay, just stating what i would do.
Amen brother. +2 from me. I know it's off topic but I'll find somewhere
I see your point but the Gyms need income also so when its time to open they have the ability to. I say if you are still working or have income but your gym owner doesnt then let it slide. But if your broke and need that monthly fee to buy food for your family then cancel it. But we all have to help eachother during this time. If these gyms go bankrupt no one will be working out when this blows over. I dont know if im making sense but just thinking that poor gym owner has no income for maybe months but still has to pay rent and utilities there.
You articulated it better than I did.
Thank you, my buddy owns a gym that had to close not his choice and gym owners cant work from home like other professions.
I have two friends that own gyms and neither are big box gyms. This is hurting them.
Most gyms are tacking it on to the end of your contract. If you care about that gym and can afford it I would talk to them but let it slide.
