A gym strictly for members 25+ years old

ad

So a little back story on this, my gym only has one one cable crossover set up and although I don't use it often, it is imperative for the lifts I do use it for. The thing is constantly broken and up until last night I just assumed it was because it was a piece of shit.

HOWEVER, last night as I was preparing to attempt to break my 1 rep PR on shoulder press (mission accomplished, got 235 lbs with perfect form) I hear this loud CRASH, SLAM "HELL YEAH BRO" come from the area that the cable crossover is located. I glance in the mirror as it was directly behind me and see two kids who look to be 18, not a day older wearing muscle shirts but still looking like boiled chickens.

I continue to observe this spectacle and learned why the cable crossover is always broken which lead to me putting the fear of God into these kids. I will explain in more detail below:

As I continue to observe from a distance, I see kid #2 begin doing something that vaguely resembled a triceps extension with about 100 lbs loaded. It was clearly way too much weight, his form was horrible, he was using more of his body weight to perform the reps than his triceps... You know the drill THEN from shoulder height he DROPS THE ROPE CONNECTED TO THE CABLE HOLDING THE WEIGHTS AND IT ALL WENT CRASHING TO THE FLOOR. That was why the mother fucker is always broken.

I immediately stomped over to them like a bull that was shot up with tren then snuck into the running of the bulls and said "Will you please let the weights down gently, slamming them to the ground like that is why this is always broken". One of them had the audacity to tell me to fuck off so I took the rope off the cable and said "OK, and when you pussies become men you can come take your rope back from me"

I then proceeded to finishing my workout with the only rope connection right between my feet and felt all warm and fuzzy inside as I watched the two kids talking shit about me from a very, very safe distance.... They never did get the rope back. Funny thing is I wouldn't have said a word if they did, I just wanted to see what those two were made of.

Now having said all of that, wouldn't it be amazing to have a gym that didn't allow anyone under 25 and had a one strike your out policy in regards to bullshit?

Don't get me wrong, I love helping guys out who are just getting started and paying forward the love that was shown to me when I was a newb a long time ago in a far away land. However, as a grown ass man I can say with full confidence that mother nature knows no creature dumber than your average male human between the ages of 16-22.

I thought it would be fun to get others thoughts on the issue and exchange similar horror stories involving folks in this demographic

Reasons like this is why I chose to invest in a gym at home.

One strike out? Like planet fitness?

This reminds me of the show i saw last night where a guy in his 40s (?) with a beer gut bigger than a VW Beetle, with no muscular build, form, or anything, asked a kid who weighed maybe 80lbs soaking wet to spot him for 120lb DB presses.

He would scream "up" at the top of his lungs during the assist up, and then proceed to bend his elbows in, and back up. I shit you not, the total vertical distance traveled by those DBs was at most 1.5"...

Thankfully, the only other big husky fucker in the gym last night refused to spot him, as would have I if he approached, on principal that we would not be party to self injury.

Eagles 2013's picture

Haha wow that must have been a sight to see. Hell when I was 15 I had a huge power lifter with the offensive lineman build come up and ask me to spot him while he benched 405. I was scared shitless because I was like I don't want to tell him no but... Fuck I can't pick that up! I think he did it just to mess with me because he repped it out five times no sweat.

Btw, I can't stand gyms like planet fitness and the like. I meant one strike your out like breaking equipment being stupid no warnings. One and done

That's the way it should be man. Hell it's gotten to the point where I don't like to go after seven in the morning or before eight at night just to avoid all of the dick heads and people who go just to hangout and say "I go to the gym six days a week"

I heard that man. I was getting in there around 5:30 in the morning up until about a month ago. My drive time to and from work changed which has me stuck in there around 8:00 in the evening

I had a group of 18 year old sharing a box of fruity pebbles in the gym. More fruity pebbles went flying all over than in their mouths. I ignored it for a while but ever pebble that hit the ground echoed through my head and increased my temperature a little until I snapped "this isn't a pre school, get your fucking fruity pebbles out of the gym!!" The kid left for 10 min and then had the balls to come back in with the box. I told him I should shove that box up your ass and finally I got an employee that handed the kid a paper with the rules on it. I couldn't believe it but the funny thing is for a month I had people coming up to me telling me thank you. I became sort of a hero

Lol same shit happens to me. Last month after tren base and halo kicked in full swing, I was using 200 for farmer carry and walked as far as I could in the gym, away from everyone, stupid kid walked right in front of me and stopped to answer his phone. Some ppl are serious lifters some ppl are lazy shits.

I'd train there. Problem is it wouldn't make money. That's a big percentage of the potential market. There's a huge difference in the maturity level of individuals at that age. Plenty of the guys I train around are early to mid twenties and they're good people. 18? I think most of us were dicks at 18 to be fair.

Only time I've ever got angry with anyone in my gym was when I observed three lads picking on a guy that trains there that has learning difficulties. I bit my tongue until they swapped his 20lb dumbells for 60's and he injured himself as a result. I told them to leave before they got damaged. They told the gym owner on reception, unfortunately what they didn't realise is I've known him for 15 years. He switched the cctv off, they decided to leave shortly after.....

Man, just reading that pisses me off. My cousin is mentally challenged so it really hits home. I've also got a very close friend who is autistic. It really takes a special kind of coward to target people with disabilities like that. I am very happy to hear that you put them in their place.

I also agree with what you say about most 18 year old guys. Hell I can assure you that I would end up kicking my own 18 year old ass if I could somehow meet him today and that is a fact.

As for the money, that is very true but it would still be awesome. Hell if I win the lottery I will open one as a charity. Tell folks just give me a can of Copenhagen straight when you feel like it and we're all good

The lad has Down's syndrome, so he's really trusting of everyone etc. Lovely kid, we all help him out with training, diet etc and he loves the gym. Some horrible people around.

I fully second that I would go back and kick the ever loving shit out of a younger me... Although being that it is ~6 years ago, I fear for the 30 future year me...

set yourself up in your garage, I have never been more happy with the company I lift with

Eagles 2013's picture

Man I wish. I live in an apartment right now and don't have room. I hope to be in a house by this time next year then a gym garage will be a real possibility

no offense man but I've seen 30-40 year olds doing the most asinine stuff in the gym.

It's not just kids and in my opinion by the time you're 22-23 and out of college most of us are mature enough and calmed down.

Not sure why the 25 benchmark for physical development has been adopted for everything now

Eagles 2013's picture

Haha the 25 benchmark had nothing to do with physical development here, it was just a broad generalization. Basically I live in a college town so all of the bull shit comes from high school and college kids.

I believe that the 25 year benchmark is used for complete physical development because this is the age that your baseline bone density and hormone levels are fully established and your body completely finishes puberty.

No I understand the mark of 25 due to physical development when steroids are in play.

However it's just turned into the number people pick as a cutoff for almost anything these days

Eagles 2013's picture

That is very true and I meant no offense to you or anyone else under 25 in choosing that number. There are plenty of folks out there under 25 and twice as mature as a lot of guys in their 50's. I just chose it for this post because it's halfway to 50 :-P
