Type 2 diabetic, is getting big no longer an option?
ad
Diabetes runs in my family, grandfather who has it is only 130 lbs.
I was wondering if bulking up is no longer an option as eating lots of carbs can possibly be detrimental to my health?
Either that or i'll have to be taking larger insulin dosages to absorb the carbs eaten.
Currently I am 268 and trying to cut my way down to 220 before attempting to bulk up again.

As a type 2 diabetic, ask your doctor not the internet. You may get advice that either kills you or puts you in a shock from a bunch of non medical pros.
ClassyChassisIf you are 268 @ 22% say, that is 268x.22= 59 lbs fat. So lean weight 209. So if you lost 22lbs fat and no muscle, you should be around 15%. 246x0.15=37. 209+37=246. Isnt that about where you want to land up?246@15%? Roughly?
So if you can lose 22 lbs without losing muscle, you wont need to bulk.
I agree with the guys about keto but at least 1 day a week eat some fruit if you arent eating carbs whilst cutting. This wont affect blood sugar, but will help replenish liver glycogen, which is essential to maintaining the conversion of T4 to the active T3.
Losing 22lbs fat whilst maintaining muscle on a keto diet is totally doable. It will take a few months, but by Spring you will be transformed. If you add some type of HIIT 3xwk you'll soeed it up a bit.
That's about all I have, but good luck with whatever you do!
What’s your BF%? Being obese is going to fuck you over in many ways not just because you’re a diabetic
in the low 20's, gonna try to get it to 15 or below...
Can you upload a photo? Your stats are impressive. Have you got diabetes or diagnosed prediabetic? Have you had your HbA1c tested?
You can go full keto which kills type 2 diabetes in its tracks. You can bulk on this but it’s not as easy as carbs but not impossible.
I’m going through something similar myself although I’m a lot leaner and lighter than you. I’m stacking on decent size while maintaining my BF% with a low carb high protein/fat diet - not keto but carbs are around 100-250depending on my day. I’ve been splitting my food into 8 meals a day as larger meals can effect insulin sensitivity.
Plan is to monitor bloods and see what I can get away with adding to my diet.
I would advise you get reading as much as possible and try to be well versed in the subject of diabetes as it’ll lower the quality of your life dramatically.
I just uploaded some photos =D
I read about doing a keto diet to "reverse" the diabetes. But the body will still not respond well to eating carbs.
I've full blown diabetes, was prediabetic when I was 18-19 years old and weighing around 205 and quite lean.
I recognise you bro.
Honestly I don’t know much about full blown diabetes, I’m only just learning about the early stages and how to improve insulin sensitivity and stop becoming diabetic myself.
Insulin (for diabetic purposes only), keto or/and slowly minoring glucose levels while reintroducing certain carbs could possibly be an answer to try and put on some size. Keep with your goal of leaning out as that’ll help big time as you’re carrying a lot of timber right now. There’s probably a few diabetic bodybuilding gurus on the internet with plenty of free info which you can try to adjust to your body and gauge how it reacts.
Keep us updated as I would be interested in your journey.
Yes i've been monitoring my blood sugar for past week strictly. Carbs like quinoa, whole grain bread, sweet potatoes, steel cut oats and etc keep my levels stable. So I'm building a list of the carbs I can eat that won't spike my blood sugar for future bulking purposes.
So you've already hit 268 and asking if you can bulk again, once you cut?
Surely your checking your health as you go along.
Not asking people who know nothing about you if this is safe?
